I remember watching this game live. Next day at school none of my classmates could say McGrady was better than Kobe anymore.
Mannn Kobe was spoiling us back in the day, he always showed up in the 4th quarter, he was Mr 4th qtr bringing us back closing out games. The tough unbelievable shots he made and his fadeaways mannnn. He elevated, shooting with his left was just as efficient with his right, his jumpers were extra crisp, he was just reaching Black Mamba form this year. The next couple years he went Super Saiyan God on the league!!! He finally started to calm down a bit once Pau Gasol came to the team

It’s easy to be Mr. 4th quarter when u got Shaq averaging 30 and 15 for 5 years! No hate on Kobe but those years he played with Shaq, he probably gave his body an extra 5 years of basketball life! Mcgrady never played with anybody on his level besides Vince and he wasn’t in his prime then! Definitely never played with no 1 better than him! The man had to use all his energy every game! Let Kobe would’ve played with the talent Mcgrady played with, they may have had similar careers!
I remember this game very well almost 20 yrs ago now,Tracy was lighting the Lakers up had 21 pts at halftime Kobe 1 pt,then in second half Kobe gets hot himself finished with 38 pts to Tracy 37 pts. Kobe was 9 months 1 day older,better defender,one of the few guys during this time that could match Tmac in scoring. One of my favorite Kobe games.

man tmac was being hacked the entire 4th lol they call tmac on reaching on kobe but none of the swiping, hacking and body checking mcgrady

@@ButtZilla kobe played some good defense like the block and the rip he had at the end of the 3rd but for the most part hes literally swiping hacking and body checking tmac but when mac was doing it at the other end a whistle was blowing
They called 2 fouls on McGrady guarding Kobe and 4 on Kobe guarding McGrady so stop with the false narratives lol. They can’t call a foul every play man.
Refs got lakers back in this game. Everytime Kobe was guarding Mac it was good and aggressive but Mac got fouled a few times and there was no calls and you could see his frustration. Kobe on the other hand was getting every foul call and Mac picked up a few bad ones guarding Kobe. That and 1 on Shaq by Mac was an example. And that play around 16:35 was BS😂 and that was Tmac’s 5th foul. Magic never had a chance with those refs 😅

That's how defense was played back then. Sure, you needed to have some status in the L, but when them stars like Kobe, and years earlier Pippen, Jordan and Payton wanted to sit down on defense, that's what it looked like
