Kobe had 35pts with 7mins left in the 3rd. To think he would score 46 pts in the next 19mins is just insane. It never had the feel of "one of those games" til it became one of those games.
I was thinking the same thing watching this, I was like is he really gonna score 50 in 1.5 quarters? Dude was absolutely unreal. The fans in attendance were the luckiest people in the world. They paid regular prices for one of the best performances ever on a basketball court.

I remember being in college and playing on a basketball court and hearing that this game just happened and thinking there's no way that can be right. It's just mind blowing. I never thought we'd see anything in the modern era even approach Wilt's scoring record, and here's Kobe's second-half performance being 55. I remember he got seriously injured last time he played the Raptors and this was his first game back against them. So, you know with his mentality that he had been visualizing destroying them and getting his pay back. And that's exactly what happened.
@@Ryan-zq3er If you even watch the game, this Lakers is even more trash team, Raptors leads all the way until Kobe gone crazy, Raptors will win easily if not Kobe on that game
you make a very good point. Raptor defenders were either hacking him to force FTs or guarding him closely to make most of his shots "contested". Sure there were a few defensive lapses, including that "why, sure I'll let you come into our zone and make an easy basket" defensive facepalm early on in the game. But most of Mamba's shot-by-shot achievements here were gritty and hard-earned.
He has the coolest stroke ever. His jump shot was poetry in motion. It might not have been textbook like curry, but no one’s jump shot looked as good as Kobe’s. Beautiful
Not gonna lie; almost anytime I see a picture of Kobe like this I start to tear up. He was literally my favorite athlete. It’s still surreal to me that he’s gone. Smh

I was in Iraq when he did this. Even just reading the box score in Stars and Stripes made me forget where I was at for those 3-5 minutes. Thank you for everything Kobe.
81 points 60.9 percent from the field 53.8 percent from the three-point line and 90 percent from the free-throw line. This isn't just a points total but crazy efficiency, ON TOP of all this he clutched up with 55 in the second half alone there are Hall of Famers who had never scored that much in their careers let alone in one half..... this is one of the best performances by any player in NBA history
What’s crazy as well if you look at 7min mark he needed to score 53 points for the score to be up 3 lol and he was avg 40 points the last 12 games at this point. The total score was what 122 to 104. He scored almost 70% of the total teams points lol Kobe is so underrated it’s scary. Kobe had these great performances because the team needed it to win.
And you know this why? You realize that aside from what the fans know(basketball) he had a life .i think she will reflect on other stuff besides games fella

I remember when this happened, and so many of the haters came out ragging on "selfish Kobe" running up his stats at the expense of the team. They didn't bother to check and realize that this was still a game with six minutes to go, and the Lakers would've lost badly if he hadn't put them on his back and carried them. Incredible performance.
I agree. And as we all know, it was tough for teams to make the playoffs in the West. Sometimes a team would have to win 50 plus games just to make the 8th seed. Every single game counted!
not a lakers fan but this is spot on. it was a shoot-out early on! it's not like when you go watch a break-out recruit playing back in highschool (lebron, zion etc) when they run up 70 points and the final score is 77-9... this was a fairly close game considering. hell, weren't they down by almost 20 at one point? this was a second-half explosion...which makes it even more incredible. 20 points in the last 8-9 minutes of the game. wow

This team was trash, they had no choice. Or I should say, Kobe had no choice. Aside from Odom, Chris Mihm and Smush Parker were the only guys who could give you 10 points on a given night, think about it. This is just a fraction of what he was going through back then. There were a lot of games when he literally had to outscore the opposing team on his own for multiple quarters when he was on the floor in order that they could have a chance to win. He wasn't just a teammate, he was the team.
I remember that game so vividly… like everyone. Still got 2 original “81” Kobe t-shirts from the day, or two days after. There will never be another Mamba. RIP my brother. You are missed.
Truly one of the greatest performances I've ever witness... this game, MJ's "Flu game", 2 of my favorite games/performances ever. Still hard to believe he's gone. It's just not right. RIP Legend and young GiGi. 🙏
For most of the game, they were actually behind... and by quite a bit at some points. Nothing to smile about when you're just trying to muscle your team into a win. Kobe didn't try to get a scoring record here. He tried to win. For Kobe, this scoring record was the side effect, not the main event!
That’s what happens when your literally locked in and focused I’ve been in that mode before a couple times not saying I scored 81 points 😂but I did play a game of 21 me and my two other friends who were really good but I was always practicing more than them I literally had 18 points they had like 16 and 12 if I remember correctly anyway one of my friends tipped in the ball with one hand which gets me back to zero which sucked but I legit got my points back under 3-4 minutes ik because the coach was apparently watching the whole time and saw that I scored easily to get my points back and won the game and it’s not that I was even trying to score fast I just loved the game of basketball that practicing every day made it easy for me

I never thought we'd see anything in the modern era even approach Wilt's scoring record, and here's Kobe's second-half performance being 55.

Right, they were down 18 at one point till Kobe took over.
Haters always gonna hate
I thought Kobe letting his teamates "ball out" game 7 against the Suns in which the Lakers got destroyed shut them up.
20 points in the last 8-9 minutes of the game. wow

They did what a team is supposed to do when your teammate is “on” give em the damn ball as much as possible.

This game is the definition of being in the zone, it's mind-blowing
Its mind blowing only for the sheeps like you. Sports are F rigged. This particular ballgame was designed for Kobe to score 81 pts on his 666th career. On a date of jan 22. 122 is a huge number for the occult.
