That’s seriously such a hard choice wow! I think if I was truly pressed to cut down to 1 synth it would have to be 3rd Wave. It’s just so good sounding and versatile it’s killed my GAS for a lot of other synths. However if I got to have multiple synths like a Moog, software, etc I’d keep my OB-6 for emotional attachment/inspiration, since it just has such a character and flow I’m drawn to.
I had to sell some pedals to pay for my cat’s huge medical bill last december, and I sadly parted with the empress! It’s amazing but I have found the MercuryX does almost all the same things really well. I really miss the ghost mode though, it’s a great pedal, and still easily one of the best reverbs! I kept my Echosystem though!
@@MilesAwayOfficialSome sacrifices need to be made of course, beautiful setup there. I'm looking for best possible reverb for my synths, of course these fx are essentially algorithms in a box so I may stick to my vsts to keep cash for other purchases 😅
@@xntricity6446 depends on priorities, i think right now there's some great software reverbs but to my ears the Meris stuff is just so far ahead in terms of workflow and sound quality. Big Sky MX is amazing too, I'm working on a video for that. But I agree, if you are prioritizing spending go for a knobby synth before a verb! Impossible to replicate that feel on VSTs :)

I’m sorry I’ve never used the Desktop 3rd Wave! I would either try to find somewhere you can try one, or email the groove synthesis guys with any specific questions on their website, they are great! They used to work for Sequential, so it’s probably safe that if you like the Sequential desktops like the P12, you’d probably like this! I’m a keyboard guy personally.
Devin, what's your experience with gain staging/managing the microcosm? I keep finding reviews where people say it's too quiet or they are not happy for some other reason. I'm also asking because I just got the Chroma Console a couple of days ago and with its automatic or manual gain calibration it's been a breeze.
Good question! It’s definitely a bit more quiet and has a bit less headroom than some other pedals but it’s not bad at all. I’d say it’s about on par with the Walrus stuff, where as long as you aren’t blasting it with super loud line level, it’s fine. Chroma Console and the Meris Strymon stuff takes line level the best out of all the pedals I own and it’s not even close. I hope the gain calibration system or line/instrument toggle feature get adopted by more pedal makers. I tend to go out of my synths at about 50% volume just to make sure there’s no clipping anywhere, then boost the signal in my interface with a Uad pre-amp plug-in

Is makari really worth it compared to say thermae and other analogue delays? I understand its comparing stereo to mono but sound for sound does it really work well as i know you try tons of pedals.
Fair question! I’m doing a shootout on analog delay soon, but basically if you don’t care about stereo I still love Thermae. But Meraki being stereo is so powerful because you can link or unlink both sides and make them cross feedback which creates truly amazing textures and stereo interest. I can honestly say it’s tied as the best delay pedal I’ve tried with LVX
