I'm 51 years old I love fishing but haven't had time until about a year ago. I found your channel about 3 months ago. I have learned so much more about fishing technique. I just want to say thank you
I use the 1/2oz today at Don Pedro and had severals small hits. As I was reeling up the bait slowly one of the fish followed it up. It was around a 4lb spotted bass. A few minutes later another small hit this time a fish even bigger followed it to the boat and hit just the claws barely in my view then clearly in my view it was even bigger than the fish before. Keep up the great work. Matt and Tim.
When you described that bite...it is so true. I recently used a swing head in a kayak tournament, and I was fishing it in a milfoil flat. I would rip it through on an 1/2 ounce. They it would just get heavy, like a wet rag. And I would do quick high stick to feel the bite, sure enough they were on there every time. I reel down and swing. It is nuts. I am sold on the swing head. You can punch with it too.
You guys should do a video on how to fish in rainy weather and what lures and patterns work best for it. I'd love to hear what you guys have to say about these conditions! Love the videos, thanks!
This is my go to technique. What I love about the Dirty Jigs is you have hook size options which other companies do not. The 1/2 oz with a 3 1/0 is my favorite size for winter. Great video.
Awesome that you put out a video about this! I started using swing heads last summer and even use all the same lures! Just picked up a pack of the Z craws a few weeks ago for another summer bait and love them. Have also had the same experience with feeling that mushy bite and swinging to set the hook but not actually hooking the fish. Great tip on bending the hook! Ill be trying that for sure!
I enjoyed watching Matt imitate what the bait does when it deflects off an object! Sorta like me explaining to people how my Hobie drive works on my Pro Angler. Great vid and content. AS ALWAYS!!
Cheap alternative to the $5+ for 2 swings, EWG hook - add a split ring and drop shot cylinder style weight to the hook eye for rock and shell bottom. Round style weight for soft bottom. Started doing this 40 years ago with an egg style weight. Cost= 17.9¢
Taylor Hickman very similar action but if you use the drop shot style weight you need to open the line tie wire so it moves freely on the split ring. I use number 3 or 4 split Rings depending on the hook eye size to keep it all swinging freely. Just be careful to tie your line to the split ring at the double band section. Some guys used two split rings for more freedom or tie on with a clip but I don't find that necessary. The egg shape style casting weight allows tons of movement. Gets hung up in the Rocks though. I like using the drop shot line clip style weights because the weight breaks free if you snag just the weight and you get everything back but the weight.
If you look on AliExpress they sell ball heads in different weights with a removable wire so you can tailor your hook size to fit your needs, like 10 for 4 bucks.
My absolute favorite soft plastic is the structure bug. EVERY issue you have described in this video is EXACTLY what I've been trying to figure out. Especially the part of feeling like you were behing. I had already switched to ewgs trying to improve my hookup ratio. We'll see, but i think you just solved my problems
I literally had the idea to try this technique yesterday. I went and bought some swivel football heads and some trailers. I wake up to my favorite fishing channel to see a video on the exact technique. You must have sent out some ESP vibes yesterday :). Thank you for the video, I see I was doing it wrong ( restricted some of the movement at the joint). Great video as always!!
Guys I just ordered the strike king version hoping with a pointed head It will come through grass alittle better. Can’t wait to try it out! I did not know it’s a cast a reel bait. Makes it even better for me at my lake. Good info Matt!
I have done this all summer with a lot of success . I do use the zoom z craw in the green pumpkin flash! That color mimics a shad exactly ! Love your videos !
Hey Matt,I think u guys have one of the most educational channels in the business.but I would luv to c alot more underwater footage of the baits as they werk.just a a suggestion, keep up the great werk.thx for all u do.
The bending the hook up tip is what I needed to hear! I was getting really frustrated with the hookup ratio, so much that stopped throwing it this season.
I have also started tying a small bait keeper on these- just were it loops up. I bend one strand of a wire guard off a jig in half and then secure it (poking over just 1/8 an inch) with some wraps of braid and a touch of superglue. Holds the plastic way better and helps plastics last longer.
Tim and Matt man this was perfect time see this because I will be throw a swing head next weekend in my tournament... keep up the good and hard work guys
I've got a bunch of swing heads laying around but I've never tried them because my lakes get too grassy in the summer. Im gonna give it another go. Thanks TB
Lol, my buddy always have a say when I use this setup yet he won't commit into trying it out. My all time favorites is a 1/4 oz. 3/0 hook Swinging ball head from arkie. At under 2 bucks for 3 swing head is a steal. Awesome vids
Very good video Matt. Being new to bass fishing I actually picked up some swinging head jigs the first time I went terminal tackle shopping. (Because they looked like they would work)I just tried one last weekend for the first time and actually paired it up with a reaction innovations beaver. It is very good to know that I am on the right track.
I use them all the time flipping to light and heavy cover. Works extremely good with tubes. Kind of hard to work a strike king tube rattle in it but it works great
Love these kind of vids man the way you described the bite on the swing head is exactly how the fish on my lake eat a kietech of your not ready it's easy to moss fish and not know you got bit
This, like all videos was very informative. I have a KBF tourney on Clear Lake this weekend, and I felt like trying this technique... in watching this video you made me a believer that it could work; and as you even said it’s a dying technique that gets overlooked. I’ll definitely be throwing it in my arsenal. This is my first season in KBF, but I can honestly say that without you and Tim providing these informative videos; I’d definitely be lost out there. Everyone says Clear Lake can be magical, so here’s hoping! Wishing you and yours the best with all future endeavors, and if you still are doing charters/guide service I definitely would like to sign up. Be well, and again, this was a great video. Thank you. 🇺🇸✌️👍
I've fished a swing head alot over the past couple years and tried many different setups. I had problems with losing fish until i started throwing it on a mh cranking rod. I treat it just like a crankbait. A mh moderate action works well but it is a bit soft on the tip, so i went to a moderate fast and that was the deal...
Great video. Already fish the lighter versions of round heads with success. Because of your video I will try heavier versions and football heads in heavier covers.
Matt, I just started using swinging heads with a Keitech Swing Impact Fat for small-mouth in areas where Gobies are the main forage.(like Door County, WI) I slowly crawl it along bottom when the fish are deeper than I like to fish with the NED rig.
Thanks Matt and Tim, I've watched almost all of these style videos of yours and ive learned so much. i appreciate that you take the time to do these because they help me catch fish. Another great vid very helpful.
Awesome video! I've always paired my swing heads with Zman palmetto bugz because the appendages have nice boyanchy. I'm for sure going to start slow rolling rather fishing them Tstyle. Thanks for the tips!
Had back to back cast 6lbers this spring swimming it on chunk rock. The Biffle Rock Banger has worked great. Lot of big bites on that one. Has N almost crankbait type rock to it. Biggest of the year is a 7.5 on it.
I've been fishing that method for years on ledges and off shore. From what I have found with those type of heads is that if you keep reeling on them after the bite and pull into them (reel set) you have a much better hook to land ratio. I've tried it time and time again with hammering a hook set and for me it just doesn't put the fish in the boat.
I make my own swing jigs with a football head but I have not made any with a 5/8 oz and up because I fet I had no use for them nor do I swim them. I’m heading for the garage and will be making larger baits and will be swimming beavers, rages and will continue using bifflebugs because I really like them. Thanks for tutorial, it should up my chances.
Geeeeeeeeezzz Matt Shhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!! This is a deadly technique! Especially when them bass are feeding on crawls! One thing you forgot to mention is that it's a great bait to use at night in the summer. I've hooked some biggins at night with this bait. Just FYI. Lol!!!
Hector Hinojosa after watching this video a couple weeks ago I didn't want to wait to try it so went out not expecting anything just to practice & see how it feels. In the 1st 15 min. landed a 5.5 lber from the bank. So I'll 2nd Hector
Just a fun fyi, I fish alot of North West Indiana lakes, including lake Michigan, and had lots of success using a 4inch swim bait with the swing heads. Smallies crush em!!
Caught my personal best (only 5kb but I've only been at this about two years) on this rig the other night. I think my new favorite rig. For some reason the fat impact bite ain't happening too much for me lately. (Btw I put one one on one of the swing heads and it's a great look!!!). I didn't use the hook you mentioned though. Basically bought something I thought looked similar at cabelas, but I went with tungsten. 3/8 with a green pumpkin sweet beaver. Thanks again for a great learning experience.
Folding the first finger on the Simms glove over...not related to this video, but such a good tip. I love the gloves, just wish that first finger was shorter...considered cutting it in half, but much better solution
You can also troll it while kayaking to pretty good success once you figure a way to set the hook while doing it but it’s really fun and since your moving the bass feel huge when the rod first loads up
I own quote a few swing heads bit haven't given them a real shot. Gunna have to.....and that z craw is my favorite flapping all around bait. The juniors make good swim jig trailers and the full size are versatile and are effective. Love that bait!!
Awesome! because i was wondering what I was going to do with a short 6' 6": heavy Rouge rod I purchased on impulse since it was on sale. I kept thinking it should be longer for [pitching/flipping, carolina ect] these other techniques. But now I know a good situations to use this Biffle head style swinging-jig-head w/ a swimming creature bait/craw. Ready to jack shaws .
Great video Matt! I really wish I had some waters with hard bottom composition so I could fish some of these techniques. The natural lakes I fish in the Midwest are already soo choked off with vegetation it makes them hard to fish.
I've used the strike king jointed head with 7 to 10 inch worms, medium retrieve and got bigger bass than I have with creature bates. However, the worms aren't as consistent on the bite as creature bates are for me.
Love the swim jig I’ve got some access to some really low pressure Everglades bassin and the swim jig definitely causes a size increase and is deadly good for not getting stuck on anything but mudfish love when fished on the bottom they really can’t help themselves I have a giant bass goal when I’m fishing so while their fun I’m also kayaking and taking them off while in a kayak and thinking you have a giant bass for a sec is not cool besides that it’s awesome use the 1/4 ounce so my cheap ass can still use my spinning set up
VERY surprised you did not mention putting a keitech on the swing head Matt. Maybe you were saving that secret for yourself?! Great video regardless. -Cole
After a year of your video being uploaded, I finally got a chance to review it. I was not aware of the hinged swinging jig heads. I have used your links and ordered these and the recommended baits. Added another pole to my collection as well. I appreciate your detailed presentation on this technique and look forward to trying it.
Definitely picking a few of these up for my end of the month trip. New lake to me, looks to be super deep. Now I just need to figure out how to fish this lake and what colors. Not sure what to do with.
I've been using Arkie "U-Bolt" head jigs with a rage tail baby craw as my primary summer creek/river smallmouth lure for the past few years..they eat these things alive. When everybody else csnt catch anything but rock bass on rooster tails, or a handful of smallmouth on other craw imitators, I tear them up with this style of fishing.
I’ve been doin really well with the Yamamoto cowboy on a swinghead. Great info Matt. Truly appreciate your knowledge. I’m hoping some day I can do a guided trip on Clearlake with you.
Love the video Matt, I'll have to try this !! Thank you!! Just got out fishing with my 168 lite trout swaver . Love it. Also looking to pick up your guys gear
Important question guys should you use a swim bait or lure while also having a bait line in does it matter should you be throwing your lure out at all if your doing live bait night crawler etc
I love the lecture style videos I could listen to matt go in depth on a technique all day long
I'm 51 years old I love fishing but haven't had time until about a year ago. I found your channel about 3 months ago. I have learned so much more about fishing technique. I just want to say thank you
You guys are my go to channel for learning as a beginner, informative, easy to understand and up to date. Thanks guys and keep em coming.
Ur an elite teacher because you utilize the "What", "Why", "How" technique for knowledge transfer. Luv ur videos .....

Ya there are cheaper options
Thanks for the tip! Is the action different?
Taylor Hickman very similar action but if you use the drop shot style weight you need to open the line tie wire so it moves freely on the split ring. Thank you for this when I saw this video I was like I've had these lost a ton not worth the cost to me.
Fell in love with swing jigs on the delta a few years ago. So so versatile. Punch, flip, swim, popping grass.... So so deadly.
Matt i Could listen to you all day. Please REST AND GET WELL SINCE WE ARE GOING TO MISS YOU FOR A WHILE.. YOU AND YOUR DAD WILL BE IN MY PRAYERS......
Great job explaining how to fish swinging jigs. This is one of the best how to videos I have seen.

Add rage craw to that list of baits especially summer craw. They absolutely hammer it!
I was shocked to not hear about the Biffle bug. I absolutely love the rage menace and bug. Its awesome to find another use for them. Thanks!
Tim and Matt man this was perfect time see this because I will be throw a swing head next weekend in my tournament... keep up the good and hard work guys

By far the best educational videos on RUclips. Keep up the great work!

Awesome you’re attention to detail when you explain things not just this video but all of them
I like the swing head jig I would never stop using them Great set up

Matt I appreciate your videos! I’ve learned a lot just in the few videos I’ve watch so far. Thanks again!!! 👍🏼
Best videos in the entire industry.
Just a fun fyi, I fish alot of North West Indiana lakes, including lake Michigan, and had lots of success using a 4inch swim bait with the swing heads. Smallies crush em!!

Benjamin Nowak looks like your pretty well versed fisherman yourself friend I’ll have to sub I need all the pro tips I can get
Outdoor Research sun gloves off of Amazon are perfect. If you're ever in for another pair, you should try them out.
You can also troll it while kayaking to pretty good success once you figure a way to set the hook while doing it but it’s really fun and since your moving the bass feel huge when the rod first loads up
AWSOME TIP ON BENDING THE HOOK. NEVER WOULD HAVE THOUGHT OF IT. THANKS MATT
As always, great job. I watch y'all's videos several times.
Thank you
I just saw this type of hook. all they had was 5/0. now that I have seen this video i have to get to the lake. great video and thanks
Thanks Matt. You're the man. Will definitely be giving this a try again.
I own quote a few swing heads bit haven't given them a real shot. Gunna have to.....and that z craw is my favorite flapping all around bait. The juniors make good swim jig trailers and the full size are versatile and are effective. Love that bait!!
Excellent technique and info. I will definitely bend my hooks slightly. I wish I had this sooner. Much appreciated.
Thanks for reminding me about this technique. I'm going to start doing this again. Also...it's a good reason to make another trip to Cabela's.
That Man Bear Pig on a Rugby Head is my go to. Thanks for making this video!
Great explanation man. Thanks. I do feel like that bend on the hook will get caught on heavy rocks. I'll give it a try this week
adding this to my summer arsenal fo sho
Where did he say he was black ??
Tin fo! Adin dis 2 Mia box
The wobble head is amazing. It’s like a Texas rig that you just drag and lift. Bandito bug is juicy on it. So is the biffle bug.
Awesome! because i was wondering what I was going to do with a short 6' 6": heavy Rouge rod I purchased on impulse since it was on sale. I kept thinking it should be longer for [pitching/flipping, carolina ect] these other techniques. But now I know a good situations to use this Biffle head style swinging-jig-head w/ a swimming creature bait/craw. Ready to jack shaws .
Didn’t know to swim it either. Thanks Matt!
Awesome job showing the ropes with some jigs types
Great video Matt! I really wish I had some waters with hard bottom composition so I could fish some of these techniques. The natural lakes I fish in the Midwest are already soo choked off with vegetation it makes them hard to fish.
I love swimming a swing jig with a swing head and Keitech!!!!! Deadly fun!
Heck yeah buddy I tied one on last night and woke up to this video to watch you guys are awesome
Greetings from Poland (Kolbacz - Szczecin). Interesting patents and lures. I need to check them for our zanders.
Very surprised you don’t actually throw the biffle bug on this technique! It is the original and still the best bait to use!!
Love you’re videos! You actually break it down and I learn a lot from you! I’m subscribing
You should give the power point lures bug a try on the wobble head. Awesome action. As always a great video.
I've used the strike king jointed head with 7 to 10 inch worms, medium retrieve and got bigger bass than I have with creature bates. However, the worms aren't as consistent on the bite as creature bates are for me.
Funny you mention the zoom z-craw, caught a 4lber today on the color black light on a Texas rig!
Just found a mess of these in the clearance bin at DICKs, and as always TB right on time with the info I need. Love you guys.
Hook sets are free!!! Love it haha thanks
Thanks for the info man.. Great tips for a guy that just got into fishing 👍
Love the swim jig I’ve got some access to some really low pressure Everglades bassin and the swim jig definitely causes a size increase and is deadly good for not getting stuck on anything but mudfish love when fished on the bottom they really can’t help themselves I have a giant bass goal when I’m fishing so while their fun I’m also kayaking and taking them off while in a kayak and thinking you have a giant bass for a sec is not cool besides that it’s awesome use the 1/4 ounce so my cheap ass can still use my spinning set up
Love your videos. Very informative. Will add these heads to my arsenal. God Bless
A Grandebass air tail worm works well on a swing head also.
VERY surprised you did not mention putting a keitech on the swing head Matt. Maybe you were saving that secret for yourself?! Great video regardless. -Cole
I just did that the other night. Wow it's a great look in the water.
He did.
Cole Lakely funny! I just mentioned that!!👍🏻
He mentioned it in a very subtle way and I just smiled. Keitechs are insane on that head, always have been!
One of my top 3 biggest largemouth came on a swing jig with a Keitech 4.8 pro blue/red. 🔥👍🏻
Great video Matt, good tip about bending the hook up a bit.
The swing Head works really good! Great video,
I’ve spent so much money, buying things y’all recommend... and I’m damn glad I did 😂!
After a year of your video being uploaded, I finally got a chance to review it. I was not aware of the hinged swinging jig heads. I have used your links and ordered these and the recommended baits. Added another pole to my collection as well. I appreciate your detailed presentation on this technique and look forward to trying it.
Some good pointers. Thanks. What about a more pointed swim head for grass?
Definitely picking a few of these up for my end of the month trip. New lake to me, looks to be super deep. Now I just need to figure out how to fish this lake and what colors. Not sure what to do with.
Great video Matt! I love swinging jig heads. I've had success using a VMC swinging rugby head with a Bifle Bug or a Yamamoto PsychoDad.
Thanks nice to see your teaching the next generation too
I finished the tournament over the weekend uses exact technique come in 16th place with a 3-9 only keep her I was able to catch
Good to see the kids hitting fish!!
Is Zodias and Xpride the same blank?
Love the video Matt, I'll have to try this !! Thank you!! Just got out fishing with my 168 lite trout swaver . Love it. Also looking to pick up your guys gear
Great info as always! Keep them coming.
Thanks for the info Matt. Love your guys videos.
Great vid Matt. How does this channel only have 125k subs???
My favorite rig for the summer. I love the 1/2 oz or 3/4 oz with a 10 inch worm.
do you still swim it with the big worm or work it like a worm?
razorbackreb work it on the bottom, I haven't tried swimming yet.
Important question guys should you use a swim bait or lure while also having a bait line in does it matter should you be throwing your lure out at all if your doing live bait night crawler etc
