I am raising a 14 year old girl on Autism Spectrum Disorder. One thing I realised while raising my daughter is that cognitive development starts from shared attention (공동주시). A part of this shared attention is the eye contact. We think eye contact is only for a social reason. Maybe some small part is for that. However, the most important part of eye contact is sharing the experiences and being able to copy a lot of social interactions that is happening around the child. Even how to pronounce words. When we learn language, we mostly learn by mimicking our caregivers like parents. Because autistic children lack shared attention, they are less able to copy or mimic sounds, behaviours, and interaction. A lot of parents think academic abilities or cognitive developments are separate from these behavioural issues. However, from my experiences, things like shared attention is the foundation of cognitive development. Once they get better at shared attention, they will also be more aware of themselves in relation to other. Only then, you can work on those behaviours issue (상행행동). If they are not aware of themselves, you cannot fix those behaviours. My daughter is currently attending a regular school where we live. Although she still needs support in social interaction, she is able to do a full curriculum, enjoys writing and reading books and all things K-pop. So I encourage you to work on fundamentals. Not on academic abilities as much as you can while your daughter is young.
