Maggie Roche, the songwriter whose serene alto anchored the close harmonies of the Roches, her trio with her sisters, Terre and Suzzy, died on Saturday. She was 65.
Suzzy Roche said in a statement that the cause was breast cancer. She did not say where her sister died.
“She was a private person, too sensitive and shy for this world, but brimming with life, love, and talent,”

The Everly Brothers are the best singing duo in rock era history. The Roches are the best singing trio in rock era history. So glad I have lived to hear both in their prime.

Yes! I was just thinking how lucky I am to have lived in their time. I don't know how many times I listened to their albums as a teenager. Delighted their work is part of my musical DNA...

This KILLS. People who don't know the Roche sisters… well… I feel sad.

    • @davedillon1372

Agreed & people who were NOT at The Another World lp's Tour in DC at the WAX MUSEUM are sadder still.
I heard 1 song (Hammond likely or something from 'Another World' being promoted) on WHFS- same station- w/ a song played & going that night or very soon to come & not disappointed re: Dream Syndicate, Graham Parker, Nick Lowe, (from Hot Tuna>2 of>)>SVT, ON & ON... some I don't recall at the moment, of course, but wow.
Anyway, I was blessed to have heard that, went to their longest w/ALL their best songs:✓✓✓✓>>>> like a really good, tuned into ME from a friendly, intrusive Govt-run Station {DaveFM} & at what's now a parking lot - swell- leave the crack/PCP property ventures & raze an A&E thriving venue but it's in the way(‽) to imminent domain for a PARKING LOT‽
Anyway, I've been to literally hundreds of 'big-time' venue shows: L.AID, BAND, Jesse Colter, Waylon Jennings, Neil Young &! w/ Willie Nelson (as on Neil's International Harvesters' Tour/LP, & Willie Nelson- a good Day each & about ±40-50 combined, no dogs in each of the others either (= 'NAMES'), but I had NEVER, TO BE CLEAR, NE-VER HAD THE HAIR ON MY MAMMALIAN ARMS STAND UPRIGHT IN SALUTATION FOR SOMETHING MOST PEOPLE DON'T GET YET AS TO ITS FUNCTION BUT SEATED IN THE REAR ROW, L of CENTER (for taping balance- to my Left) & at a few times - during vocal harmonies that were sustained HAD I WITNESSED OTHERS - ALL THE WAY TO THE STAGE AS EVERY OTHER PERSON TURNED HEADS QUIETLY AND AMAZED AT THE EXPERIENCE, CONVEYING TO WHOMEVER 'Do YOU FEEL THIS too? Hallelujah, Angry Man, et al & to the point where I, & others- I knew, felt the building shake from the harmonics vibrating that well- built building to the 'shaking dimension'. I believe it was
Ertha Kitt who did it on a Maxell(?) commercial & made a wine glass shatter to point out the fidelity of the quality of the copy -recall that one?
These 3 'Girls' (ha) did it TOGETHER IN HARMONY.A DECADE OR SO LATER IN MIAMI I WAS LUCKY TO ACT LIKE I WORKED THIS PLACE & HELD UP THE STAGE ENTRANCE DOOR & WAS ABLE TO SAY, MOSTLY TO SUZY AT POINT OF THE LINE HOW "I saw You 3...& You were great! You caused structural damage to that place! (It was a compliment; the place literally shook - a few-4 sustained times) HUNDREDS OF SHOWS, NOT 1 BEFORE/SINCE, IN OR OUTSIDE & ONLY THE ROCHES.

I discovered them late, had always heard about them (for decades) and never bothered. Now I'm pissed because between this and Hammond song, these three were the Simon & Garfunkel of their time and deserved huge success...amazing stuff...

This is the Hammond Song of their third album--also the second song in their respective LP's track sequence, both are written by Maggie and feature their strong unison harmonies.

They grow older but not their voices, and certainly not their music - really, they are unique and timeless. I can't get enough of these songs and this is one of my favorites.
They always give me a certain feeling of freedom and put me in a place like no other, as if I'm in my own field or something. They impart something in this song that transports the listener.

When people ask “what is your favourite song of all time ?” I always think “how could you possibly say a particular song “ , but if the definition of it is a song that you keep revisiting and never get tired of hearing, then this could be at least one of them ?

My current fav by the group is No Trespassing
Can you have a fav by the Roches (Maggie and Terre and Suzzy?)
If this is your favorite, then what about Winter Coat? Hammond Song? Broken places? Its a definite pickle!

    Where is Robert Fripp!
Good song - but it really needs Fripp's guitar soloing to fill the gaps from around 3:15 on.
Of course, that's my biassed Prog-rock opinion ;-)

No Fripp guitar is what I really like. Her Fender with all that chorus is wonderful.

    Here are the lyrics
as taken from their web site.
    "the knight of shining
armor doesn't do her any favors"
Traditionally Knights are supposed to willingly doing favors for their chosen Lady.
I guess the guy in the song doesn't treat her right, that's my interpretation. :)
