That's the beauty of this trio -- no shortcuts, no alternates, no techno trickovers -- Just pure, raw, in-your-face talent, on recordings and on stage, as well.
First, thanks a lot for posting this vid to share with us. I went up to their concerts many times in early 80s but didn't hear this song ever on their stage. Thanks again. Second, may I ask when was this vid taken? Was it really in 1990? This question is due to their pretty young lookings as in 90. It's just unbelievablly young!
Good song. I wasn't familiar with it. I saw them at McCarter, but I think it was a year or two after this. Great show. Nobody else does what the Roche sisters do. They are their own genre.
May Maggie Roche rest in peace and may her memory be a blessing to her sisters and whole family. Love this group since 1980 and still do. Now Suzzy is truly dead but she left some great songs and memories behind. Peace.
So sad ~ I got to see them in London in 1981, my sister & I used to sing all there songs on long car trips, I still know all the words in my heart & soul.
Mary -- Just a misplaced name in your closing, I'm sure. Yes, Maggie has passed over (See her in that silver floss outlining the clouds) -- but no, Suzzy is very much with us in talent (multiples) and presence (often touring with daughter, Lucy). Sweet, magnificent Maggie left us with a huge dark void in the world of poetry and music; but for Suzzy and Terre-- "A world to carry on... to carry on."
@@dianesalino4457 What did Maggie pass away, from? I love The Roches, but kind of lost track, over the years. It's great to hear that Suzzy and her daughter are active. That sucks, about Maggie.
And, of course, adding to the humor of the song is that the target of the hatred is none other than one of the musicians--Suzzy Roche singing about how much she hates Suzzy Roche.
"If I Had A Penis" was written by a group called Uncle Bonsai out of Seattle. "If I had a penis, I'd still be a girl, but I'd make much more money and conquer the world."
This is without a doubt the correct date and venue. I shot it. I saw the Roches maybe 50 times and caught this song maybe 2 or 3 times.
Classic Roches!! I've never seen a group who could sound almost exactly like the album - perfect example. Phenomenal. Thank you for posting!!!

You actually have to have a sense of humor to like this. It has been so many years since I heard them. Love it!

That's the best part!
truly brilliant! I can't wait to see them in Tampa in December...FRONT ROW!
Brilliant!
Suzzy isn't dead.
Thank Gdo.
I love the Roches
The legend of " Suzzy Roche" !
Are you out there Chuck?
They are so nuts.

The girl I dated in 1990 wore very similar to what Terre is wearing in this video. So the styles would seem to correctly date this performance.
yeah,it's just you.
No matter how much I spray, I can't get rid of the Roaches.
Big Ha!
