    Hope you'al enjoy this episode. Another thing that I have noticed about this CLEAR FLOW garden hose is that in the MIDDLE of the summer during 100+ degree weather, the water is not hot as it was with my black craftsman hose, so this saves water and is better for my plants.

    I love mine, but to clarify, the Craftsman hose has nickel-plated brass fittings, not stainless steel.

    John,
    I appreciate this information about hoses, could we have an updated review?
    What is your review after 4 years of use?
    Is it still operating or past it's lifetime?
    Updated pros and cons list?
    I appreciate your efforts to educate and help anyone grow their own food.
    Thanks!

    Forget the filter and if you can use stored rainwater on the garden straight out of the tap. There are some very innovative and attractive rainwater tanks moulded to fit just about anywhere these days and we needn't worry too much about contaminants either IMO the air in the city is worse and we don't filter that! Cheers :)

      I was responding to DP, but I'm aware of how toxic our water supply is, yes. That was my point; flushing condoms puts them in the water cycle and putting them in landfills does as well (because water from landfills EVENTUALLY percolates into aquifers; evaporates into clouds; and runs-off into lakes streams and rivers).
      I was supporting you--not mocking you.

    Super Strong, super indestructible, yet after a year, you hate the hose because it has holes everywhere.
    BTW - Use gnat nix or playsand on top of pots to get rid of fungus gnats. Use about a half inch on top. The larvae cannot work their way out because it is like glass to them, so they die. The gnats on top cannot get in, and the larvae on top also dies.

  • @techjmz
    @techjmz 2 года назад

    I miss the price of the Craftsman, made in USA, rubber hoses when Sears was cannibalizing their assets. They're hard to get now and the 100 ft ones I use are hard to get period... and if you can find them they're over $100.
    I generally keep 4 100 ft Craftsman ALL RUBBER, made in USA, hoses under pressure with DRAMM brass shutoff valves while they lay out in the Texas heat in the sun 365 days a year. I've had to reinforce right where the ends are on one of them after several years, but they're still going strong. Other "lifetime," "professional," "contractor" hoses have ruptured from my usage. I recently bought a couple Jackson 4008500A 5/8" X 100' Rubber Commercial Duty Garden Hoses for $222.99 to have as backups... They definitely seem less heavy duty than the old Craftsman ones I have, but I haven't actually tested them. It makes me sad, though.
    All of the nylon-webbed, "anti-kink," Flexon, criss-cross filament, etc. hoses I have just end up in the landfill with serious usage. One of my turkeys would probably destroy one of those silly polyurethane hoses within a month, IMO. Over 99% of people have less requirements for a hose, but if you need a serious hose, you need to get legitimate all rubber.

  • @justgivemethetruth

    Hey John, great videos, but reading the label on a product is not the same thing as testing it ... is it? How do you know those Boogie Brew filters work?
    I like the hose idea ... but one I saw on Amazon was like $1 per foot ... a 50 foot hose for about $50.

    HI JOHN, ... I THINK YOU NEED TO PUT THE FILTER AT THE LAST POINT IN THE HOSE SETUP JUST BEFORE THE SPRAY NOZZLE BECAUSE THE HOSE IS SYNTHETIC PETROLEUM DERIVED MATERIAL WHICH PROBABLY HAS SOME TYPE OF SOLVENTS OR OTHER PETRO CHEMICALS THAT WOULD LEACH OR OFFGAS WHEN SITTING IN THE HOT SUN. YOU WOULD WANT TO FILTER ALL OF THAT OUT AT THE LAST POINT, NOT UPSTREAM OF THE HOSE AS YOU HAVE SHOWN.

    OK, you generally make good videos but this one is a total mess. First of all, you don't have all the facts and you have not used the hose yourself for some amount of time. Sunlight does kill germs, but sunlight is also used by plants to grow and one damn thing that can grow inside the hose and clog it up real bad is ALGAE!!! I had the worst experience, when my sprinkler would stop working due to clogging and cleanup was a mess. If you use it daily, no problem, but leave it for a week and you have had it.

    John, i have a question maybe you can answer, why not use a water holding container, since your filters slow down your water and the hose size also diminishes the output, why not collect water in a tank, stainless steel or something. and fill it up and irrigate your crops with that , the filter can take its time to fill the tank and you may even want to add an air stone and pump to increase Dissolved Oxygen in the water.
    but it is a lot of work but it might increase yield by 1% at least since there is more air in the water for the microbes.

  • @nt4g1
    @nt4g1 9 лет назад

    JK: Most cities "super chlorinate their water systems especially when they work on the water lines..When this happens, even the super large carbon filters at the hospital become saturated sometimes several times. Use .05 residual detection strips if you are serious about chlorine/ fluoride in your garden water.

    John, can you tell us how long you have had that hose for, and please let us know if it breaks. I bought several of those flexi hoses ... like the Pocket Hose, or the Wonder Hose ... or whatever they are called, and they break pretty easily and they are all very difficult if not impossible to repair. The polyethelene will get little pinholes from being dragged along the ground. Also, you have to drain the water out of it every time you use it.

    • @growingyourgreens
      @growingyourgreens  9 лет назад +5

      +justgivemethetruth I have used this hose now for 7 months. No holes have developed. I am liking the hose alot and believe other hoses are inferior. They should all be built like this. This is not another "cheap" hose like the pocket hose made in China. This is a quality product made in the USA/Canada. This is also easy to repair, as you can remove the ends and cut your hose and then reattach them. The manufacturer does recommend NOT to leave the hose pressurized after use. But I can say that I have left it pressurized, since im too lazy to turn off at the spigot, and the hose is still working great with no problems. Some early versions of the hose were thin wall. The current version being sold is a thicker, more durable material.

      +Learn Organic Gardening at GrowingYourGreens John, regarding the kink in the hse near the nozzle. you shoulder attach a spring to the end of the hose like they have on garden hoses to prevent that. or just any kind of hard tubing that will fit there(but then you would need to remove the end of the hose and put it back on). so I think a cheap metal spring would work well.

    The whole tangent on the materials that condoms are made of totally ruins this video. He wants to go all natural, non-toxic, and organic, but openly displays his own utter hypocrisy as a user of condoms; presumably he is unaware of his hypocrisy. Condoms are an extreme example of artificiality and anti-nature mentality. The body is made to reproduce; intercourse is naturally all about reproduction. Condoms are the antithesis of nature. And think of all the greenhouse gases, pollutants, and ill spent human time and energy involved in manufacturing condoms. What a hypocrite. He needs to re-think what living naturally and organically means.
