    Very very informative. I was lucky to come across this video. I was looking at a Ezvid vid video of top 10 hoses of 2018 and was about to buy their #1 recommendation when this video came on due to autoplay. I sat back and listened thinking if anybody knows hoses its gonna be the guy getting his hands dirty. Thxs for your video you definitely helped me decide on Gilmour plus its' lifetime warranty.

    Definitely agree with the strong, almost overpowering chemical odor that came from the Flexogen hose after it first comes on. Strong enough to make me cough from breathing the odor, sort of like chlorine I would say.
    When I saw this review, that chemical odor was the first thing that came to mind and I saw the comment then by mssavedin92.

    The big box stores sell hoses that almost exclusively have aluminum fittings that are guaranteed to corrode.

      Planned obsolescence. Say it with me. . . planned obsolescence. They plan for stuff to break and not last like my parents generation or theirs before them because making a quality product doesn't keep the customer NEEDING to come back for a new one. Then finding the right one online with websites as big as Amazon can be overwhelming. It keeps the money train flowing because even if your try a new one from Amazon or some other company, it's a dice roll of thousands of products.

    The Standard Gilmour Flexogen is a bargain, ranked very high on many levels (flow, durability, kink resistance) and is about half the cost of most quality hoses. Also sold as "Ace (Hardware) Flexogen". Lifetime guarantee cinches it for me.

    Yes, good vid. Rubber is the way to go. I opt for longer hoses versus more connections cause mine always leak. Speaking of which, keep extra rubber washers handy. Got any recommendations on hoses that are always under pressure (always on)?

    • @CountryLivingExperience
      @CountryLivingExperience  6 лет назад +3

      Thank you. The best recommendation is to buy as high a quality hose as you can and do not exceed it's pressure limits. Theoretically, it should not have any issues if you adhere to the pressure rating.

    Thank you so much, you've sold me on the Gilmour hose... got two 75 foot 3/4 rubber hoses. Thumbs UP! Have you ever done flow rate tests? 1/2 - 5/8 - 3/4 I know the diameter differences result in profound flow variations...

    • @FrederickDunn
      @FrederickDunn 4 года назад +2

      You are correct that brass and aluminum result in a bi-metallic bond that would result in the aluminum liberating itself first. WE actually used to line and create alloyed bronze valves exposed to seawater and then tested the de-aluminization depth with eddy current testing. Nice to see you touch on that :)

    FYI !!! At or around the time of your video APEX started making some of their ends out of aluminum and cheaper materials and painted them to look like brass so if it doesn't say full BRASS on the APEX model the ends are no longer brass to cut costs. Just an FYI.

    Do the Craftsman and Gilmore remain pliable in the winter? Tired of the cheap stiff hoses when trying to move them while in storage or fill something (ice rink) in the winter.... (fyi - Chicago winters [-20])
    Also, I read a few reviews that the black Craftsman hose finish comes off on your hands when handling it, any opinion/experience with this?

    • @CountryLivingExperience
      @CountryLivingExperience  4 года назад +2

      They do remain much more pliable in the winter since they are rubber. Of course they stiffen up some, but they are 1000% better than those cheap plastic hoses. I have never had an issue with anything coming off of the craftsman. (I feel your pain with the cold. I grew up in Detroit and went to grad school near St.Joseph MI)

    • @LaserrSharp
      @LaserrSharp 4 года назад +1

      John Matthews I haven’t used it enough to really make an honest assessment. I also store it in the garage so it’s like new. I use it maybe 5 times a month. I can tell you it feels very light and it doesn’t get too many kinks. I did buy a quick coupler for it that was left on the spigot outdoors for a few months. When I tried using it the other day it broke. So if that’s any indication of their fittings then I wouldn’t recommend it for any rugged use. The hose itself seems fine for small household tasks. I have an apartment so it suffices.

      @chuckrupert1213 Год назад

      I wish I had seen this question sooner! But if anyone else ever runs into this--something that looks like blood on a hose you purchased--first and most important, don't wash it off and don't contaminate it! Report the incident to the store where you bought it by signed and certified mail. Get statements, in writing, from any store personnel where you bought it, or after you discovered the problem. Make sure to get their contact information. Now take several photographs of the stain in sunlight, then take several in a dark room under ultra-violet light. Place it in a large, clean, unused plastic bag. Be careful not contaminate or remove the stain when handling. Keep it in a cool, dry place away from sunlight. Next, do some research and take it personally to a licensed, forensic laboratory. Do not ship it, you must hand it off in person. Have them log it in AND provide you with chain-of-custody documentation. Then hire an attorney. Not just any attorney, but one who has experience in this kind of matter. Give him a copy of the incident report letter, witness statements, the photographs, and chain-of-custody documents. You will likely have to pay the lawyer a retainer, but he/she may work on a percentage only if there is a case that results in a recovery for you. In several months you will have your time in court. Before the trial you must retrieve the hose from the lab, but you must get another chain-of-custody document to transport it from their facility the courtroom. There it must be logged in as evidence and the chain-of-custody document signed by the court representative. You can subpoena any unwilling witnesses, the sales rep, and can call the lab technician as a witness or have them deposed if they are too far away. If you win, you will likely recover the cost of your hose, attorney fees (if any), deposition fees, etc. If you lose, wash the hose off and keep it, or sell it on Ebay if you are uncomfortable with it.
