    Broccoli leaves are SO good. I ate some one time when the broccoli buds didn't come out very large, and now I honestly prefer the leaves. It was like the most delicious kale I'd ever had.

    I cut my pepper plants just above the soil , and some of them start growing back in the spring- and they get huge and productive because they've already got an established root system. The freeze can kill them but a few handfuls of wood chips over that stem can insulate it enough to allow survival into spring.

    I had spinal meningitis at 24. I’m 54 now. I remember the pain my head and feet hurt so much I couldn’t stand up. My head felt like someone hit me in the head with a sledgehammer and my feet felt like standing on them was an unbearable pain. Like you, that changed my way of living.

    Glad you made it John, the world would be a poorer place without you. Thank you for sharing that part of your life with us. I can see why you are so into growing your own food and making sure you eat healthy. You have become so much a part of my life since I found your channel. Your videos are a big part of my day, thank you. I have been raising worms and composting for years, after all, you can't keep taking out of the soil without putting something back. I can't keep up with everything you pass on to us but if I need to know anything I can go back to your videos and watch it again to refresh my memory. Thanks again, bless you and good health.

    Ty for this video. A few yrs ago I started gardening because I do not want cancer again. I need to build my immune system & rid my body of the chemo & radiation that I consumed at 35. One thing I know is that stage 4 cancer is not the way that I want to go. I'm watching your videos in hopes to get more tips from you. Ty again :)

    I live in Connecticut, and planted six Scotch Blue Kale plants in spring of 2019. It is now December 2020, and i am still harvesting enough for myself and plenty to ashare with friends and family! I even had enough all last winter to make omelette and smoothies! Wow! I am planting more types of kale, and other brassicas this year. Yum!

    Thank you for yet another super informative video! I've been living on homegrown organic food all my life and therefore I'm probably healthy. And although I've never as been sick as you were, I so appreciate my health and put all my money into enhancing the soil I'm growing my food in. Everything you said in this video is true! We live in Spain, maybe I can get the the trace mineral products you mentioned shipped over, but usually it is difficult. So to wrap my comment up: We do NOT use doctors, dentists, vets, hospitals and pharmacies and instead put all the money we can spare into improving our gardening soil. We have no pests on our plants and most of our plants grow to a healthy size, some even more, but I still feel we could do better. Every year. So thank you again for this great video and in an emotional way, it helped me so much, because all my life I was laughed at, bullied and ridiculed because of my healthy lifestyle. Sad also to say that many of those bullies are very sick these day, some even don't live anymore.

    John is one of those people whom I appreciate the most!!! All the best to him and so many people genuinely love him! I want to buy estate close to forest with huge trees and river, because I believe forest can provide the most valuable materials for the garden. If trees are huge, tall, very healthy and survived numerous years, that means, forest got all the best materials, like twigs, leaves, weeds, and why weeds are so damn strong with the roots deeply spread in soil which makes them impossible to dig out, because like those trees they take all the minerals and trace minerals in nature, broken down by micro organisms, bacterias, fungus, etc. I believe that by collecting materials in the wild nature, making composts like John does, adding coffee grounds, egg shells for calcium (though I never eat eggs myself), leaf mold, worm rich soil and wood chips will provide even richer soil than sold organic solutions and products in bags. Anyway, they are still super, like mycorrhizae, just not better than wild nature.......

    Awesome video. You take it to the next level by explaining the need for soil conditioner and telling your own story of survival. You were spared for a reason - to educate and inspire people to grow their own health. My little cousin died suddenly from spinal meningitis in 1960 at age 3 so you were very lucky. As far as the cost of the soil additives, you do point out that you use sparingly and the investment lasts several years so it's worth the effort to make sure you are getting the maximum nutrition from your garden no matter how small. I have bitten into store-bought fruits and vegetables that had no flavor and thrown them out, so I know the quality isn't there. Thank you for your hard work in bringing us this information, and God bless you.

    Talking about trace minerals is so important because people within our food system often disregard them because they aren't nessesary in high concentrations to grow lettuce and tomatoes, but fewer of the nutrients are unable to form for us to eat.

    Love you John, thank you for all that you do. I'm learning so much about how to do better gardening.
    I am back on raw for a month now. My partner has almost healed his diabetes going vegan but still eating some cooked and trying to fight cravings to stay on raw. lHe is off ALL his diabetes meds now except the thyroid, including a blood thinner he was on due to a clot that went through his lung but luckily did not reach his heart. My partner and I also take the best medicinal herbs to heal our kidneys and adrenals. I have a cyst in my spine so I decided cooked food and sugar was not going to get that out of there although I was swinging back and forth from vegetarian to vegan for a number of years since 2008, but so much of it was cooked. I feel great again and most pain and inflammation gone. I eat only raw fruits and vegetables. Thank you for helping others to know the Truth.
    My partner built greenhouse canopies over my raised beds to keep the chemtrails out of my plants and soil. All I want to get now is a filter for my hose so I can give my plants better water.

    God bless you John. I loved this video. I also have a genes problem, mine is with my blood, in that I can and have thrown blood clots into my lungs. With a massive PE in 2010, The Doctors told me with the damage in my lungs they only ever see in an autopsy. And that I am of a 1% that lived. lol I made it in a 1% er club. I was told if I am unlucky ill get 3 to 5 years and if I am lucky ill get 7 to 10 years to live. After open lung surgery to remove some of the bigger clots in 2012 I am still left with the same condition as before the surgery. Working on year 6 now and take life one day at a time. I too have loved to garden all my life. And still garden but, I am slow and it takes a long time with many breaks to get my planting done. Can you recommend any garden foods for better LUNG health. Thank you, my wife and I love your videos, you are better the any show on TV. Thanks

    I have never ever had ANY luck with broccoli till we moved north to Mohave County AZ. We lived in LaPaz county for 20 years and it just got too hot there. There may have been other factors like the local farms spraying. Anyway , last week I harvested and ate it fresh for the first time ever straight from my garden and harvested 2 of the leaves as well. Cooked within 10 minutes after picking... Wow what a difference from store bought! The flavor was mild and almost tasted like asparagus! Now that I know it does well here as a winter crop I will definitely plant more. It will probably grow in the spring as well and when it goes to seed in the spring our bees will benefit too. My new garden is almost 1 year old now. I built it from the ground up on part of our driveway.

    Love your work. You are such an encouragement. My best to you. I am too poor to buy supplements for my soil so I use old peelings and veggie scraps and mix it with the dirt. I got the most amazing black soil out of it and people were asking me where I got it. When I told them it only took me six months to make it they nearly fell over. (Carrrot juice pulp from the juicer) So I grew hundreds of babies from seed in it then had to move but three farms made out like bandits.

    Real Talk JOHN! You are spot-on regarding the soil. The soil has been robbed of nutrients. The scriptures inform man to let the soil rest for 1 or 2 years not to grow nothing so the soil may recondition its self automatically. But now we need to add and add other man-made supplements to our soil. Mother earth is in pain cause of man not following Law, they operate outside them selfs. Our food is devoid of nutrients, taste, minerals, etc. So, at last, I've now have been given the right support (John information) to put back what our soil needs, it's costly however its needs so much in our bodies-minerals, etc. Thank you for making this well needed informative video, wake up the people!

    John do you do a full soil analysis? A local agricultural community may have an extension office where you can purchase a kit to take a sample (Penn State U is only $12 for the kit and manual $9 for just the kit). Then you just send them the sample and they will tell you all essential minerals you need and how much you need. Yes you can over fertilize. Also you should try a cover crop for any bare soil. The michorrizal fungi die or spore themselves if they are left without a root for a while. Try buying some molasses (if you are not using boogie brew which has another sugar in it) and do a test on two different plants one with a teaspoon of molasses on its roots.

    • @Dollapfin
      @Dollapfin 8 лет назад +1

      Oh btw the essential minerals are things that your plant needs a certain amount of (like in humans we need so much iron vitamin D, C etc.) so your rock dust will cover the rest of the trace minerals.

    • @Crysmatic
      @Crysmatic 8 лет назад

      Definitely do a soil analysis. It's not totally up for debate on whether your soil has everything your plants need, as you say. Those soil amendments had a handful of common minerals (in the wrong ratios btw), with a few here and there. You can get them MUCH cheaper elsewhere. Brix is a good indicator of plant quality, and if you're not measuring Brix, you're guessing at your plant's health. Some of those amendments will *lower* Brix. A good base of limestone/rock phosphate/gypsum will do wonders. Lastly, do NOT dump sugars in your garden. It's never happened in the history of the earth, and it makes microbes lazy.

    Thanks for showing us how you plant and what you add to soil. You grow a lot in your back yard, not to mention the 2lbs a day of greens you eat:)
    That was a great recovery story and how you keep healthy, you don't just take prescription pills that actually kill hundreds of thousands every year. I am taking responsibility for my own heath and learning to garden and eat wild plants also as they have far more nutrients than any gardener can grow. Do you grow any "weeds" in your garden?(never mind, I found your video "Cultivating Weeds to Grow More Food in Less Garden Space.")
    Keeping our immune system up is a rewarding experience and one that I enjoy focusing on, most days, lol. Sorry but we don't buy many fertilizers as we have 3 types of manures we add every year; sheep/cow and chicken along with composted hay and then sand and whatever, and so far after 4 years the garden is doing well. But hey, if anything goes awry, I know who to call:)

    One of your best, most useful productions John. I've been using Azomite for a while but there are sure to be some elements under represented in that, Silver, Tin, Iodine, Lithium come to mind as likely canidates. (BTW-your health crisis history was an important aspect too)

    I have question that I've overlooked some else asking or it's never been asked. How do you enrich your soil every year at planting time without taking out some of the soil in the existing beds? I just can't figure out how you can keeping adding without overloading your raised beds! At some point wouldn't you have to take out some soil before adding more, and when you do that what should you do with what's been removed, can it still be used somewhere else? Please help this confused home gardener!

      Sharon Mcanespy Hi Sharon, I don't know if John can answer this question or not (too many comments and questions) in my experience you don't remove any soil as everything is consumed by it. The only time you may remove soil when it's contaminated or you just want to replace the rocks or other hard surfaces. My beds in a year sank almost 2 inches are added with horse manure, fall leaves and wood chips. If you remove any good soil just use it in the yard or raise the level if your beds. Always mix native soil with new amendments (native soil = native bugs and microbes)
      Soil leaches, washes away, consumed by plants and further breaks down over time.

    Not to burst anyone’s bubble butt boron well just say read it for yourself Amorphous boron is used as a rocket fuel igniter and in pyrotechnic flares. It gives the flares a distinctive green colour. The most important compounds of boron are boric (or boracic) acid, borax (sodium borate) and boric oxide. These can be found in eye drops, mild antiseptics, washing powders and tile glazes.

    John,
    You may have already said it, but after watching twice i must have missed it, what is the link to the WESTERN BIO TECH company, I have googled it but am not able to locate that company. Also, what is the name of the pack you bought or did you put together all of those items off of a list of options to procure?
    I scrapped out the garden that was here when I bought the house and am putting in a brand new raised bed garden and want to start off right and use some of the methods you have been showing on your videos.
    thanks
    Chris

    Howdy John from Rich in Virginia Beach, Va. Dig your vids a lot. Great to see you and others sharing your knowledge and experiences with everyone. I have numerous in-ground gardens that are all thriving but i am interested in experimenting with some raised beds as well. One of my local gardening centers here has very well composted used mushroom compost available by the yard. $50 a yard if you have your own truck or $75 if delivered, both prices are fair. Would you think this would be a good material to use along with some peat moss (readily available) some topsoil (same price delivered) and then the rock dust and worm castings to get a half dozen 4" x 10" raised beds going ? Keep the vids coming, i miss California as i grew up tere but love the mid-atlantic too. Cheers and look forward to your comments, Rich aka The Wizard of Willow on Facebook.
