Where are you? South East Queensland? I wonder if ginger will grow where I am currently in Eastern North Carolina.
What are you trowing on the surface as an furtalizer? Small pieces of the shell of chicken eggs?
what did you make with that ginger, cuke and was that mint?
Well done
This is awesome but it's pronounced "rye zomes" not "rhyme-zomes" !
I’m just your average dad in Sydney and only by watching your videos I’ve become interested in gardening. Now I’ve got a few square metres of a raised bed, a few large bags for potato’s and 2 Dozen pots for beans, peas, carrots, and lots of other veggies and citrus. It’s becoming a very enjoyable hobby but also an education, and a totally free source of nutrition and pleasure as I can now supplement every meal with free clean ingredients that I can cook / steam/ fry /grill.
I understand that this is how life was supported for thousands of years and so it’s almost a genetic memory to relearn how to cultivate life.
Thank you.

I love watching this fellow!
Crazy! I'm watching this video in 2022 (4 years after it was originally uploaded) and I'm very encouraged by the size of your garden and how it has developed over the years! No Birdies raised beds. More hair. Same great lessons and sense of humor! Mark, you are the man!
My day starts with a mug of ginger and lemon boiled up for 10 min. Add a tsp of honey for taste.
I call it my daily energy drink.
I do it too. Without Lemon. Because I do it while at work. Working in the oil patch far away from home. I do it with Camille tea. The honey I mix in my tea after it cools off a little bit. So to not destroy the good things in the honey.
great but thats also a tooth enamel striper as well so rinse mouth after drinking.

Hi John, you boil the ginger and lemon? I like to drink it too, but i put it in boiled water and let it soak for.10.minutes without boiling. I keep it warm on a candle light holder. I think the vitmines etc stay in than. Sorry for mu English. I am.drom yhe Netherlands.

I was thinking the same thing! It's plant Steve Irwin
Steve Irwin was insane. This i guy is not a crazy person.

Steve Irwin wasn't insane, he's very enthusiastic about saving the highly misunderstood wildlife like the crocodiles, snakes etc. That's all.

Someone asks: Do you wanna grow a ton of ginger? you're like huh maybe, not really...
Someone asks: Do you wanna grow a ton of GINJA?! you'll be like you bet your ass I DO!!!
I really appreciate the way you explain these things for "normal" people. I feel like your description of the "eyes" was perfect. Gardening isn't nearly as complicated as many professionals make it seem and the steps are often just obvious. Clear a space, lay it out, bury it a bit, water it and make sure the soil isn't garbage. Simple and easy.
Yep, it's mostly elbow grease, discipline, logic and protecting your crop/babies from all the critters that want to get in and have a go at it.

I do xD

Just discovered this guy... He is awesome.

ME TOO, 3 MONTH AGO.
Welcome
Useful tips mate, TY.
A couple of suggestions:
1. Before planting, try soaking the ginger in a solution of Trichoderma overnight. This protects the ginger from fungus.
2. Grate fully developed ginger into lime juice add a pinch of rock salt. Store in a glass bottle(steel corrodes over a period of times). Drink a spoonful of this when you have indigestion. Prettys simple and effective. 😃.
super, how long does it keep? any other ideas of how to use ginger ?
Trichoderma?? I do my very best to protect my mushrooms from that mold. How would one soak ginger in it?
@@greeneyeslima1 upto a month in a refrigerator. So make in small portions. In some parts of India they make ginger pickle, buy I' am not aware of the procedure.

This is actually really calming. I feel like he's kind old grandpa teaching me how to garden. (I'm also growing ginger in nevada and this was super helpful!) Candied ginger and ginger tea's are my favorite way to eat ginger. I have tendonitis/carpal tunnel with a lot of swelling, and ginger is anti-inflamitory so it really helps.
fresh ginger tea is soooo good and helps with a lot with sore throat, digestion problems, helps your liver to detox,
Abby, I love to make ginger dressing.....it is GREAT
You're eyesight is not good though. He is no where near being an old grandpa. Fresh carrots might help.

I nearly died last year, the doc thought I had emphysema and or COPD. My husband made me drinks of ginger, fresh lemon juice and a little honey, morning, noon and night, even at 2am when I couldn't breathe. it was often the only thing that would stop me coughing. turned out I dont have those illnesses, but was affected by mould from neighbours old couch he left in the yard facing my dining room window. one couch was moved, my symptoms disappeared with in 2 weeks. I still take this drink first thing every morning, I swear it saved my life.I have now started growing ginger, but have learnt a lot from this video....thank you. loving learning lots about gardening
Patricia Dianne Kahi could you give the recipe for the drink like how you make it
@@nesnaga hi there are no specific measurements.. Make to taste
Grated ginger put in teapot, fill with boiling water.
When cooled a little strain into a mug, add fresh lemon juice e and raw honey.
I often chop or grate a large ammount if ginger, put in saucepan with plenty of water.
Simmer for half an hour or mour.
When cool, strain into a jug and store in fridge.
Each morning I put about an inch of ginger juice into a mug, top with boiled water and lemon juice and honey. I sometimes add a 1/4 teaspoon of grated garlic in drink as well.
Hope this helps you. I'm not an expert, and I don't give medical advice just sharing what helped me
Patricia Dianne Kahi thank you
Patricia Dianne Kahi a lot of people call it the ‘flu bomb’. Add some cayenne pepper if you like. I drink this even when not sick.
Did you thank your husband truly?

I can't believe my luck a fellow queenslander yay. I've been wanting to become self sufficient but have been struggling. Thanks to you I feel like I stand a chance. And ginger is one of my favourite things! This is so awesome 👍❤️
Ginger a good choice guessing cause of stress ATM. Did U end growing it? Would like grow as presents for family or sell online either the harvested or the whole plant. For me motivation is low but think should be self sufficient a bit, grow extra so can swap maybe for other stuff. Society weird ATM.
I re-watched this video after growing a bit of store-bought ginger root for about a year and a half, in a container. After the first die-back of the foliage I thought it was dead. The leaves never got really big and were always sickly. I repotted it several months ago and have since enjoyed beautiful, lush foliage, and I keep seeing new shoots coming up. I think I will harvest some soon! Thank you for educating us on sub-tropical gardening, it has been wonderful to learn.
I simply love the way you explain. clear precise straight forward short and sweet. some people just go on and on and we have forgotten what they were talking in the first place !!!!! I'm from sri lanka which is an agriculture based country (used to be... now a little different though ) I salute you. Thank you for the tips.
Thank you very much! I do try and keep these types of videos/formats much "sharper" than my usual say "walk around" vids. I do understand some people are just after concise information rather than long-winded explanations (which I'm prone to do myself sometimes) so I appreciate your feedback confirming this approach. All the best :)

Great video, I may try growing some in Mississippi, USA next Spring 2019. My favorite use for Ginger is making homemade Ginger Ale... 1 cup sliced Ginger (steep to extract favor) add to 1 gal Water. 2 cups Sugar, 1 Lemon (juiced) 1 Lime (juiced) 1/2tsp - 1tsp yeast (More in cooler months or climates) , mix then bottle for 48-72 hrs at room temperature, burb daily, then refrigerate for the BEST Ginger Ale ever. *** NOTE: I use old flip top beer bottles & water bottles.
UPDATE: I bought an masticating juicer and now make about 2 oz of ginger jucie to use per gallon (+/- to taste)
Shane J McNair how’d it go Mississippi? NW Arkansas here 😊
Shane, can we replace 1 tsp yeast with sourdough yeast instead. Appreciate it if you could advice. From Malaysia
@@madelinkoh Yes, any yeast will work to start the carbonation process. Different yeast will only impart different characteristics in flavor. Enjoy.

I enjoy your vids, even though I'm gardening in high altitude Colorado USA! I wanted to tell you that those stems and leaves you cut off your ginger when you harvested at the end of the video are edible, too! You can put them in soups and stir frys. The stalks are a bit like lemon grass.
Hi Heather, where in CO? We came from Aspen to Australia. There is a great No-till farm in Carbondale if you are near there. Called Wild Seeds.

USE FOR GINGER : our No 1 family use is for treatment of teenage pimples! True. It cleans the circulation so well and fast that within 24 hours facial skin improves. My teenage boys use it all the time, … I don’t even have to tell them too! They just automatically, voluntarily use it if their face is breaking out or they have sugary foods (pity it wasn’t the same response when the lawn needed mowing). Anyway I chop up fresh ginger into small pieces, put about a 1/2 teaspoon of the stuff in a coffee cup and add boiling water, basically a fresh ginger tea. You can refill the same ginger with more hot water a few times over. I often chop up fresh ginger into little single serve amounts, put into a tiny ziplock bags and freeze. Then when needed just take out of freezer, out of bag, add boiling water … instant pimple cure. Enjoy!
I love watching your videos! Not only are you educational to watch, you're entertaining too! I have started watching because I would like to grow my own veggies, herbs and fruit. Since I'm 69 and have issues gardening low to the ground, I love the idea of the raised beds, that is why I started watching these videos. I am going to start soon, so have to binge watch! I like putting a few slices in a cup of green tea. My now deceased mum swore by it as she battled years of cancer and it helped her for over 2 decades. Great production 😊
Thanks boss! My son and I are giving ginger a go here in FL. I really like your videos, but it's even better that he likes 'em too and is getting into gardening. Thank you.
Try bitter ginger, also called pinecone Lilly I live in FL as well and it does better than the standard cullinary variety and tastes better
How I use my fresh ginger. I have to have a heart and both lungs transplant. I already have multiple stents in my heart. I asked a eastern medicine doctor for a natural treatment that I could use to keep my heart vessels clean and clear. I can't take medications for it I have had allergic reactions. He suggested I take fresh ginger peal in and grind it in a smoothie maker. I take one full teaspoon daily and I have not had any more blockages since I started taking the ginger. Also, the blockages they were going to stent ended up desolving before my procedures were done. About six moths of daily dosing cleaned every thing out. I mix the ginger paste with an equal amount of apple sauce and do two teaspoons of it. The apple sauce cuts the strength down so it's easier to take. I follow it with 8 oz of water. Enjoy the benefits of healthy vessels.
Thank you for your advise. Interesting. Going to try it for myself. Very interesting.
Wow, amazing! All the best! Unfortunately I loath ginger!

I live in the eastern northern part of the USA, so when I buy ginger I find it very convenient to store it in the freezer. It grates very well and easily. Besides using it in cooking I love to boil some water and using a micro grater grate some into a cup and make a tea, then either add honey or stevia to sweeten it up a bit. There is nothing better for the digestive track than ginger.

Have a relatively new coworker and bud who has turned out to be a bit of a ginger nut. I had him by and just let this video play in the background, it seeming he hadn't heard of this channel or even content like this, and watched as his attention slowly turned to the video. Pretty soon he had completely tuned in on it and spaced out of our conversation. After a couple minutes taking it in he looked back at me, and the verdict went, "I love this guy!" Chalk that up as a successful conversion, I'd say.

Hi, I am from New Delhi, India. Very interesting to watch your video, informative and motivating to grow ginger. I can grow in pots only, because I am staying in an apartment. I recall a very interesting incident of many years back, when ginger became too costly and was hard for people to buy it. An office colleague was visiting Assam, a north-eastern state in India and found that ginger was available there for far less a price. He brought along a lot of ginger and gifted to wives of his colleagues, people still remember him after 25-30 years.
Seven months ago I have asked the video owner how to reserve the ginger for next Spring, but there was no answer! I got the answers on my own and I want to share with you all. I had planned 2 ginger pots in Spring 2019, One big pot and other is smaller. It was the first time I planted gingers and successfully done. In Fall I dug up the big pot, I harvested it save it for the rest of 2020 🤣😂🤗🤩🥺! As the same time I took the smaller pot inside “DO NOT WATER IT PERIOD”. just simply removed the dried stalks and done nothing to it. Today is April 1 in Maryland, I empty the small pot onto the ground, there are many GOOD FRESH ginger to be harvested, as well as many new shoots ready to be planted. I will continue to plant my ginger this way “TOW POTS” for the rest of my life, I am 75 years old. Good luck
What helped I wanna grow my own and I have to pots one big one small
Terrific as always Mark... I always learn something from you. Thank you!! My absolute favorite way to use ginger is blended with my green drinks... As much ginger as I can handle along with some spinach, kale and some fruit, be it apples, bananas, grapes, strawberries, pears, berries or whatever is in season. Great pick me up mid-day or anytime really.

Juicing ginger, horse radish and apple together!! The best drink ever!!!
Thanks so much for this video! Here is some thing really really cool about Ginger, If you get a cheap planter or even a washing up bowl. Use exactly the same method you use for growing it. But leave it undisturbed for about 1-2 years and you will get the most awesome sweet smelling flowers ever. You can harvest some seeds and grow them and by doing this you will get seeds plants more suitable to your local environment. Useful if living in a temperate climate, Just take the whole planter indoors and keep dry over winter. Very important not to cut the old stems in any way. Just leave totally undisturbed, It some times takes a few good years for the plant to send up flowering stems, But well worth the wait.

watching your videos inspires me to start my own fruit and vegetable garden.
I drink grated ginger and lemon tea every night. I also cook with a lot of ginger
I do the same, but I make in bulk and freeze in ice cubes trays and store. Ginger root and quartered lemon all parts in a pots of boiled water steeping all day tell everything is soft, blend in my ninja blender tell smooth, strain off pulp same pulp and store in freezer. My mix is concentrated I freeze in ice trays and store in freezer bags. Drink 2-3 cubes to 32oz of water. I'm a diabetic so I add stevia to mine. If you like it sweeter stevia is sweet the white cane sugar. It great in a glass of green tea. (1 or 2 cubes) depending on how concentrated your lemon ginger mix is.
My favourite use of ginger is for getting rid of sea sickness/travel sickness! But it's also very yummy in biscuits and egg fried rice.
