    Using the pattern in the major key do you start off with the pinky finger (4) than the index finger (1)

      Depends what you want the scale to do. From the pinky (Major root) you can just ascend the scale as usual or go lower by one note to the last note in the scale. Remember scales are independent of patterns and strings. There is a root note on every string. I should make a video about this

      This is where for some players it gets confusing. They associate the scales with the pattern which locks them in the box. Not realizing that they can pick up the root on any string at any octave , this the great thing about a guitar. Took me years to learn this on my own. So glad you’re breaking down in such an easy learning experience
