I have a 18 R Stage 1 IE and the tuning process is definetly nerve racking the first time. The DSG and ECU tune totally changed the car i dropped my launch down to 3500 that was where i was getting the best times so youll have to run some launches and see what works best for your tire setup.
Can't wait to hear your thoughts on this tune. I use mine as a daily and the factory warranty will soon expire. Thank you for posting a how to if I decide to go this route.
I recently heard of a couple mutual friends blowing up their engine on IE stage 2.. I’m not sure if they’re super unlucky or if there is a flaw with the flash rn. I would love to go stage 2 eventually but hearing that was a shocker to me
@@MkKevinwould be curious to hear your thoughts about that in another video, because blown up engines is not a topic which is covered a whole lot for golf r's having gone merely to stage two, on YT! 😢
i bought a golf r estate 7.5 and am loving it the first two weeks i got 3 points on my licence and just last month another 3 points now taking it easy over 35 years driving and never got a point lol it shows you how good the golf r is here in the uk .
Nice man! I just got a 7.5 R a few weeks ago. Still low miles and with a warranty too so it’ll be some time before I tune but excited to hear your thoughts about the IE tune vs stock.
It is well worth it. Stage 1 is off the shelf tune. Just make sure you are up to date with oil changes, spark plugs. Even a stage 2 on IE is safe, with the DSG tune. I really really noticed the difference with an aftermarket catted downpipe. These engines have a cat right at the turbo exit. Having the catted downpipe lowered the engine bay temps.
I had the same experience after my tune. The instructions state, "start the car". Then "shut the car off". Then "start the car again". I wasn't able to start the car until I turned everything off from the accessories mode it was still on from the tune. IE needs to update that small detail and quit giving people heart attacks. Lol. BUT, the tune was incredible on my Q5 and I highly recommend.
thanks man for the video. i have a 2019 golf r too, and have been reluctant to tune it with little to no experience lol. i will be going with IE and remus products next summer.
palms are sweaty... mom's spaghetti... enjoy the tune... I've been stage 1 on my 2015 DSG GTI with APR for 50K miles... you'll be fine. Planning on going IE Stage 2 soon... and eventually throw a big turbo in her, and do a big brake kit.
I have a 2017 golf R got it new and waited a year before getting this tune it's perfect dont go for stage 2 tell you have inter cooler and down pipe every thing else is for sound. Stage 1 is perfect for every day use good luck and enjoy beating alot of cars going in to the free way😜
@@MkKevin stage 1 feels like this is how it should of been as OEM I commute alot and mostly have the car on comfortable, Fyi every 45k-55k miles car needs dif fluids replaced you will feel the difference also the hose that links engine to turbo inlet has an o ring that needs to get replaced if you remove it for another turbo inlet if you start having oil leaks look there 👍
Completely understandable. I work from home so I’m sure that If I had to commute again I would have been a lot more hesitant! Still really fun in stock form
You should run Unitronic stage 1, they’re all about running on stock bolt ons and running for reliability and drivability, they don’t push the transmission at all and then run on low boost, if you want a little more fun with maximum reliability to accompany it. I think everyone would tell you to go with unitronic, if you’re more interested search up Unitronic stage 1 mk7 golf and watch the guy that has a manbun, his gti build is sick and he goes into detail on unitronic
Mine doesn't start after I change the tune as well. I always have to clear the codes and then it starts up after they are cleared. I was freaking out the first time it happened to me.
Yeah I thought I screwed up big time, even though nothing went wrong lol. Just cycling the key without turning the car on a few times did the trick for me
@@MkKevin that's awesome man. I'm interested because I have an APR stage 1 high torque with similar mods. But no dragy. Keep up the great content 👍 All the best.
I boutht a golf mk7, i see in your video that when you start you engine after the tune you should have Drive and also your gear next to it. My car drives with the letter D and also changes gears while driving. Does that means its tuned ?
The car still acts the same in the different drive modes just like Stock did! For example, comfort/eco/normal mode you would never know the car is tuned. But in Race mode you definitely feel the additional power
@@MkKevin awesome just ordered my stage 1 tune and dsg tune can’t wait. I have a nameless performance exhaust with mini mufflers coming in but still built. Also got a new subscriber.
I am so confused. I live in California and was thinking about getting a tune for my Golf R 7.5. According to some websites and part dealers they won't ship to California because emissions. Is this for certain manufacturers or we simply can't tune at all? If any knows much appreciated.
what exactly is recommended to have done prior to your golf before installing the dsg and engine tune ? maybe intake and exhaust ? also can you link the tune by chance ?
How has it been running man! Great vid, doing this on my 2019 over the winter since the warranty is dead in January :) Should still have water pump covered too in my area!
All these stage mods are well and good but the engines 99% of the time go bang. Not many do it properly with an upgraded engine rebuild and then re-map.
So jealous bro Got my powerlink from IE and the fcking thing doesn't work. Called IE who then told me to email tech support and I basically gave them 5 days to either send me a new powerlink or a refund.
Great video, but you are a at home flasher. You are basically re-flashing your ECU. The tune was done by the company that provided you the tune file. I am sorry not trying to be mean or anything.

I’ve done one launch at 4000 since tuning & I definitely spun all 4 briefly off the line, I’ll most likely drop to 3500 or 3750

do you have to leave the thing plugged into the obd2 port or can you take it out once you're done tuning?

That delay in the start could be a safety feature because the hood was open.
