    subbed since you got the gti and like the videos so far but is this video sponsored and you didnt mention it? seems very sponsored like youre really really pushing unitronic at every moment you can. unless youre just really into the brand and did your own research since you got the gti but you dont even mention other tuning options in the video. kinda susses me out :/

    Have a '17 GTI with a Unitronic stage-1+ 93 octane and a DKM Stage-2 clutch. Have had it for a year a and a half = no issues EXCEPT ...TOO MUCH FUN. 0-60 is sick...top end pull is astonishing 60-130+ and that's just in 3rd&4th gear... BOOM👊

      @Bawla187 3 года назад +1

      Dude I have the same car 17' SE manual. I want to go this route so bad but my biggest fear is crank walk.. What made you decide to get dkm clutch and would you recommend that company again?

    • @audieconrad8995
      @audieconrad8995 3 года назад +3

      @@Bawla187 hey man, sooo... a few thoughts - not in any particular order... I'm a gearhead in name only - not a mechanic. My stock clutch on stock tune started slipping at 70-72k (disappointing). So decided to go for a tune and clutch that'd handle the power increase. I had narrowed down to 2 garages - APR/SouthBend the other was Unitronic/DKM. The 2nd choice is what I went with because of a close to 1k price dif AND the garage I chose had a great VW mod rep.. Verrrry happy with the UNI 1+ tune - huge inrease over stock with no mechanical alterations = 310hp/345 lb. The power curves are similar to stock - smooth and linear. APR seemed more peaky to me...
      The clutch - DKM is the brand that was recommended as this well known mechanic works with. If I recall (some of this gets to be a bit gobbildy-goop admittedly) to me...what was recommended and installed is a DKM stage-2 single disc Daily - rated over 400-lb.. I am very happy with it's performance as my ride now has 104k no issues. Clutch peddle pressure is fine, take up point is comfortable. I don't particularly whale on it per se - don't do a lot of launches but do like to occasionally hammer down/upshifts on higher-end pulls at rpm 😊. No issues - goes great! However...it is noisy at idle and at 1-2 gear engagement points. Sounds like diesel. I was informed it would be a "little bit." Although I like and trust the mechanic I do believe I was sold a little bit of a bill of goods when it comes to the clatter. I've gotten a bit more used to it. For my taste I'd rather deal with that than fart-pop-bang exhaust - not a fan - just me. Sometimes u just gotta trust the professional although I was a bit naive. Btw...don't know what crank walk is.
      Sorry this was long but wanted to give you an honest background and perspective - you deserve that. U have a great ride and this is a major and expensive upgrade and you want it to be right. There's always trade-offs - depends what your needs and desires are. Ask around some more, check some forums see what others say. Good luck with whatever you choose - overall I've been really happy with the added performance!🚘

    Short story: Bought my GTI with 6K miles, installed Unitronic Stage 2 ECU and Transmission @ 10K miles. She is 62K now, got the XForce Exhaust, change oil Liqui Moly every 5K. The other day was driving back from work and an MK7.5 with a bunch of COBB decals tried to keep up and was unsuccessful. Once we slowed down he shouted "is that a big turbo?" to what I smiled and nodded. I was wearing Continentals with around 15-20K on them. Today I got Michelins Pilots installed and I can't wait to be underestimated again. I installed the tune myself and it is as easy as it can possibly get. Highly recommended, not a sponsored comment and I stand behind this video 100%.

    Hey, nice work! I see this video is 2yo and hope you still enjoy your GTI. While you went frim stock to tune, I in a little bit different situation - I bough a non-running GTI with stage1+ ECU and Stage1 TCU tune from Unitronic... engine was bad - cylinder walls were scored, timing chain streched to the point that tensioner's piston almost fell out of housing. Car had 130k. So I bought a donor 2012 GTI with 46k miles on it.
    Carried over the engine+dsg, turned out that my GTI is CBFA and donor is CCTA so I had to install different head that I happens to have, ordered APR titanium headstuds, because... because why not? Added unrestricted elbow, Untron8c intercooler, full alumitum radiator... car had a full stainless steel magnaflow 3" exhaust and by full I mean from turbocharger outlet all the way, APR full carbon fiber intake system, etc. I had already started the engine but did not assemble everything yet. Can't wait to drive this thing...

    Something for people to consider before pulling the trigger on this. If you live in States like California be careful of doing this. California passed a law that is currently in affect this year that all "tunes" need to be CARB compliant or it's an automatic fail on your smog check. Additionally, downpipes are a fail and so are intakes that aren't CARB. Oil catch cans are also automatic fails. Just something to keep in mind when considering mods if you live in an un mod friendly State. 😎

    All three codes except for the P2440 can be ignored. The car has a lot of fault codes when in accessory mode.
    Make sure your SAI is plugged into the airbox all the way. You can also tell if the SAI is working properly when you turn the car on when its cold. You will hear loud suction for about 15 seconds while the SAI pulls air. The catalytic converter needs to be hot to work properly. SAI adds more non combusted air to heat it up quickly on startup.

    • @Incomudro1963
      @Incomudro1963 2 года назад

      You don't need any mods prior to a tune, though better tires than stock can be a big help.
      If you don't plan on doing crazy things, Stage 1 will be more than satisfying.

    quick question, in your other video you go to a stage 2 tune.... when you buy a unitronic stage 1 tune do you get all the others for further upgrades or do you have to spend the extra 500-600 dollars for another tune?

    I’m in the market for a gti and I’ve never done anything upgrading or tuning wise. But being 26 and driving around a Mazda suv family car as well as a personal Scion tC I’m ready for something with a little bit of quickness as a daily driver. Tuning still scares me because I don’t wanna mess up the car but the way you did this made it seem so easy. Would you recommend this to someone who has never touched or even looked into tuning?

    cobb acessport is definitely the way to go instead. less expensive and more horsepower and reliable. you can monitor everything and eqt customer service is way better. why pay $1300 when you can pay $600-700 and you get to monitor everything and flash back from each tune.

    • @graysonnell9389

      no hate just to clarify but in my experience i had unitronic stage 2 and it’s not even close to the same as eqt stage 2. when i made the switch to a acessport with eqt stage 2 it made the car feel so much different as faster and jsut smoothly and easier to use.

    I've got a 2015 GTI base model with DSG, so you've really gotten me excited about the stage 1 tune. I've only had mine a couple of months, but I've already gotten a bigger turbo inlet elbow, and about to get a catless downpipe. I'm saving up for the stage 1 tune, but hearing yours really got me excited! Thank you for the content! I was considering either APR or EQT over Unitronic, but if you've got reasons for picking that particular brand I'd love to hear them. May change my mind.

    Considering a tcu tune for my 18 gli and I've gotta say, the car refusing to break 2000 rpm under normal driving conditions is incredibly frustrating. The trans shifting from 1900 to 1200 almost makes me think that something is wrong. Even with these cars having good torque from factory, my 18 elantra felt faster sometimes because it would actually hit 3k rpm if I gave a little more gas. In my gli, I feel like I have to give 70% throttle to get a downshift sometimes.

    Sounds like from this vid you got hella sponsered by unitronic . Why would you pay 1400 for that OTS tune when you go with COBB that does let you monitor things if you wanted to and get a custom tune from a tuner for almost the same price?? Makes no sense.

    I also have a 2016 Golf GTI as my daily driver. I've heard great things about Unitronic as it's relatively inexpensive and not complicated, coming from someone who's completely new into modding. Just curious, does Unitronic Stage 1 allow you, if necessary, to reset the ECU/TCU back to stock format at any time (e.g. if you need to bring it to service at dealership and still maintain warranty)? And how's gas mileage when on Stage 1 (where I live, it's mostly stop and go traffic, with low max speed, and also extremely expensive gas prices, at CDN$1.45-1.55/L) compared to stock?
    Also, any affects on reliability of the engine in the long run, as I'm planning to drive it for 5-10+ years (I've already had it for 4.5 years)?

I have aftermarket parts…cts downpipe,injectors were upgraded,a flow master,high flow cat,apr coil packs and i think the intercooler might be aftermarket it has cts pipes coming out of it. Sorry…i purchased the car not knowing it was tuned. Lol. So now i have to put a tune on the car with all the aftermarket parts already on it. Is that bad? Is that more expensive? Would i be able to do it myself?
