I agree with the shawl being quite nice once it's done. I don't know what Stephen would have to do for me to absolutely hate it but this wasn't it. I've participated in the last five and each one is such an experience. I love it! Even though I'm done I'm enjoying watching your progress.
I love your shawl, I love your puppy and I totally understand the sports parent volunteer thing. The things we do for our kiddos!!! I frogged my first attempt because I love my yarn but it just wasn’t working so I am going to add a color and make a Slipstravaganza out of it. My husband surprised me this weekend with new yarn to start over. I decided to embrace the crazy and make it in Minnesota Vikings colors and wear it on game days. I couldn’t be happier except for knitting it alone. So I just started week one-go me!!
I think you are so cool! I love your outlook on life. I don’t get the socially imposed puppy guilt. Do we guilt trip people for having genetic children bc there are kids who need homes all around the world. We all have good reasons for things we do. Do you!!!💗💗💗💗

I finished mine last Thursday. I also chose the early bind off. I'm really happy with my colors and my finished product, but I'm sooooo glad to be done and on to other things. It's a fascinating design and I'm glad I participated and stuck with it, but it's not a pattern I would have chosen to knit if I'd seen it as a completed shawl. There are so many of his designs that I really love - I have something like six or so planned over the next year - but this one isn't one I love. Again, my colors are awesome and i will wear the shawl, but... I admire that you have made the decision to preservere and finish it and I think your colors are gorgeous.

Love your excitement with the MKAL. We have a 2 yr. old Old English Sheepdog so I feel your pain. Enjoying being post true puppy days - good luck 😉. Our kids were both competitive swimmers. I thought we were lucky they weren’t into hockey for the volunteer expectations, but swimming was intense as well. I loved timing or stroke and turn judge (my husband did electronics as well). Unfortunately, our daughter loved 200m fly and our son excelled at the 1500 m free and the open water 5 km. We were always the last to leave. Look forward to seeing your finished shawl.

Aww! Cute puppy. Easy to forget how much work they are at first, no wonder Mr West is not your first priority. I am feeling so much better about mine now that I have finished a couple of other projects and cast on a few new ones. I have mapped out the sections to finish by the end of the year. I’m so glad I did my clue 4 right side immediately after clue 3 on that side. Now I’ve moved to the left side and am back to clue 3. I enjoyed clue 4 but to do it twice in a row might be too boring for me. I’m still loving your colors and can’t wait to see your completed shawl. I too will be ending early and omitting the “bib”.
Right now we have 2 rescues and one that we got as a puppy. After losing a rescue I just felt like I needed a dog where I knew it’s whole story. Even though I haven’t always had rescues I’ve helped many dogs get to their forever homes by doing dog transport ( it’s like the pony express but with dogs not mail🤣). You just have to do what’s best for your family. Don’t let anyone make you feel guilty!!

Love these videos - even though I’m not joining in the mkal! Yours is looking great. I saw knit365 (Martyns) video, where he interviews Stephen West (amongst others) and it was great to hear what he thinks and how his mind works. As he said, the shawl looks really different when you style/wear it, than it does when you pin it out flat. It is a 3D object. Lorenzo is gorgeous, but puppies are a lot of work😂 I have vowed never to have another, but get to enjoy my childrens dogs/puppies! Thank you for making these videos - I am still in hospital and so these videos keep me sane! 😊🙏
yes I'm watching... I have been checking for new videos every few days, I have finished clue 1 and taken a break to work on a cardigan. I will not frog all that work! I might modify it but think I need to dye a new colour pop.
From one dog person to another....I love your new puppy!! He's gorgeous. I know what you mean about feeling guilty you didn't get one from Animal Rescue. I feel the same cos I bought a King Charles Cavaliar Spaniel. They all need a good home though..... My MKAL started wrong from the get-go. I chose my Accent colour as the Contrast Colour and didn't increase into the edge chevrons. So when it came to the cable section that couldn't be very wide and so the alterations/modifications just kept on coming. Its all good now. I finished it, like you without the extra back length. If you looked at it, you would never know about all the alterations. It is lovely. I would never wear it though! What to do with it now is the question. Kindest regards Lynn Albany Western Australia
I was where you are and when clue 4 came out I thought ugh and decided not to continue on. I’m making a Musselburgh instead and I don’t feel guilty. I saw Aurora Cabin shawl KAL in December so I’ll do that one. It’s gorgeous!
I am getting close to finishing clue 2 and totally agree with you about clue 4. No bib for me! I hope to finish by the end of November with this MKAL, the amount of time each section takes is pretty extreme to complete in one month. I have holiday makes on my mind and need my 2 girls to pick out what I will make for them this year (here’s hoping smaller projects!)
You’re doing a great job with the MKAL and your shawl is beautiful. I made the same mistake with the cable section (not decreasing) but I didn’t notice until I was finished with the second section. I thought, “Wait, I don’t remember decreasing before…” No wonder it was so wavy! It’s a miracle that I was able to fix it. I have been making so many mistakes with Section 3 that I’ve had to put it aside for a while. I want to finish it, but I can’t deal with it right now!
Hi I’m Bobbi. I’m also still trying to finish my Twists & Turns shawl. I’m about ready to start the second cable section in clue 2. I had to let it sit for awhile because I need to finish a test knit I’m working on. I would like to leave off the last chevron section. I’m not a big fan of that part of the shawl. It reminds me of a dragon. ❤😊
I’m still crunching through Clue 3… section 7 (2nd long twisted rib tail)…. I’m looking forward to finishing, and like you, I don’t want to start something new, or this might never get done!
Oh my gauuud, Alonzo is adorable!! But so is Max. I was afraid when you introduced Alonzo, that something happened to your Max! I'm so glad he's still part of the family and that he now has a buddy! Are they Bichons? I had two a few years ago and they are THE best when it came to younger-wild ass kids. I'm not doing the MKAL but have so enjoyed watching you make your way through it. But sooo glad it's not me!! You're hilarious, and love watching your podcasts! Keep going on that shawl, I'm dying to see it completed.
I took a week break after section 9 to knit some other things as I was afraid I would not have enough time for my Christmas gifts… I finished a hat, started another one, knitted a Sophie scarf, started a big fluff and I feel better… so back on Section 10 today… I will do the short version so I hope to be done in a couple of days! Glad to see you are still going strong!
Alonso and Max are super cute. They are also names of two of my favourite F1 drivers on the current grid 🏎🏎 🤓 I have a 4 month old puppy too, and he is part of the reason I am behind on the MKAL. 🐶❤😴😅 It is our first dog, and with a kid who just turned 5, I didn't want to bring in a rescue dog either. It is great to have kid and dog grow up together. The puppy was an instant fit with our family. The kid is now requesting 6 more dogs 🤣 I am at clue 3. And I like it, but it is a little bit of a chore to go back and forth and have a whole other section of more of the same waiting for me 😓. I love the end product and the process of this shawl. But I am now knitting on something else because I want to knit on that more. I am not someone who will abandon works in progress for a very long time (like years 😁), so I am sure I will get back to it soonish. I am excited to adapt the last section of the shawl. I saw someone (Mitokondrio on Ravelry) that included tassels and an epic overall finish to the shawl. So I will copy that (notes are on their project page).
I am with you I’m pretty much over the Mkal I’m about the same place you are working on the strips. My pop color doesn’t have hardly any flex in it so I’m having a hard time doing the front cable but the back cable is a breeze I don’t even have to take it off the needle I just need the second stitch and then leave it on the needle and then net the first stitch so it’s going pretty fast so I decided I’m gonna do that on both sides with both strips just gonna be a half a wave lol
Clue 1 I thought was stunning and super cool, but I knew immediately I'd hate the process of knitting it. I really don't like fiddly, and it looked super fiddly. The rest of the shawl I could kind of take it or leave it. It's not really my jam. I love your colors though - they're beautiful :)

I hope to finish by the end of November with this MKAL, the amount of time each section takes is pretty extreme to complete in one month. I have holiday makes on my mind and need my 2 girls to pick out what I will make for them this year (here’s hoping smaller projects!)
You’re doing a great job with the MKAL and your shawl is beautiful. I made the same mistake with the cable section (not decreasing) but I didn’t notice until I was finished with the second section. I thought, “Wait, I don’t remember decreasing before…” No wonder it was so wavy! It’s a miracle that I was able to fix it. I have been making so many mistakes with Section 3 that I’ve had to put it aside for a while. I want to finish it, but I can’t deal with it right now!
I’m still on clue 1…lol, and not even half way through that. I will keep slogging on.😂

Hi I’m Bobbi. I’m also still trying to finish my Twists & Turns shawl. I’m about ready to start the second cable section in clue 2. I had to let it sit for awhile because I need to finish a test knit I’m working on. I would like to leave off the last chevron section. I’m not a big fan of that part of the shawl. It reminds me of a dragon. ❤😊
I’m still crunching through Clue 3… section 7 (2nd long twisted rib tail)…. I’m looking forward to finishing, and like you, I don’t want to start something new, or this might never get done!
Oh my gauuud, Alonzo is adorable!! But so is Max. I was afraid when you introduced Alonzo, that something happened to your Max! I'm so glad he's still part of the family and that he now has a buddy! Are they Bichons? I had two a few years ago and they are THE best when it came to younger-wild ass kids.
I'm not doing the MKAL but have so enjoyed watching you make your way through it. But sooo glad it's not me!!

I took a week break after section 9 to knit some other things as I was afraid I would not have enough time for my Christmas gifts… I finished a hat, started another one, knitted a Sophie scarf, started a big fluff and I feel better… so back on Section 10 today… I will do the short version so I hope to be done in a couple of days! Glad to see you are still going strong!
Alonso and Max are super cute. They are also names of two of my favourite F1 drivers on the current grid 🏎🏎 🤓
I have a 4 month old puppy too, and he is part of the reason I am behind on the MKAL. 🐶❤😴😅 It is our first dog, and with a kid who just turned 5, I didn't want to bring in a rescue dog either. It is great to have kid and dog grow up together. The puppy was an instant fit with our family. The kid is now requesting 6 more dogs 🤣
I am at clue 3. And I like it, but it is a little bit of a chore to go back and forth and have a whole other section of more of the same waiting for me 😓. I love the end product and the process of this shawl. But I am now knitting on something else because I want to knit on that more. I am not someone who will abandon works in progress for a very long time (like years 😁), so I am sure I will get back to it soonish.
I am excited to adapt the last section of the shawl. I saw someone (Mitokondrio on Ravelry) that included tassels and an epic overall finish to the shawl. So I will copy that (notes are on their project page).

I am with you I’m pretty much over the Mkal I’m about the same place you are working on the strips. My pop color doesn’t have hardly any flex in it so I’m having a hard time doing the front cable but the back cable is a breeze I don’t even have to take it off the needle I just need the second stitch and then leave it on the needle and then net the first stitch so it’s going pretty fast so I decided I’m gonna do that on both sides with both strips just gonna be a half a wave lol

Clue 1 I thought was stunning and super cool, but I knew immediately I'd hate the process of knitting it. I really don't like fiddly, and it looked super fiddly. The rest of the shawl I could kind of take it or leave it. It's not really my jam. I love your colors though - they're beautiful :)
