With the exception of the starters, all of Clavell's team fits perfectly. Although, I wonder if Clavell's Polteageist has an Antique form? He looks like several characters to possess this rare form.
This man's efforts to do right by his students and trying to understand them are incredibly admirable. I love how he more or less pardoned team Star, and gave them a new purpose.
It really feels like I’m about to fight the chairman of the school, I love Clive/clavell, the cheesy 70’s disguise was too funny. Favorite professor character by far ❤
heck, if you enter the directors office, one of the cutscenes that plays out is him asking which hairstyle is the coolest, in which if you did not select pompadour, he figures that they are not going to be popular anymore and has a short pause after that. It was probably relating to the fact of that the disguise may be too obvious.
This song is the perfect example of there's no need to go hard or intense to be a great song. This song keeps you motivated to fight and beat him, no matter how many BS things he can set on his team or against yours
I'm pretty sure Clavel has always been stronger than Penny canonically. He was going to defeat her instead of you. He wasn't really that sure if you were going to be able to win, however winning him was the proof he needed to understand you wouldn't have a problem
For me this was the order of harder important battles: 1-clavel 2-penny 3-larry e4 4-archen 5-nemoona 6-the rest of e4 battles 7-youngster ferb 8-Geeta
God he's such a good teacher and a principal. An actual teacher who cares about their students and strives to get closer to them? No wonder he got elected to teach this massive school of a 805 year old history.
I love how this battle theme feels commanding and light-hearted, yet mostly melancholic. Given that he is the director of the academy and how well you bonded with him throughout Operation Starfall, it really felt like Clavell was just battling you just to protect you from what Cassiopeia had planned prior to the meeting.
This track is absolutely phenomal, very regal and elegant- yet so intense. Pokémon no matter the entry, always finds a way to make absolutely incredible, story driven pieces of music that perfectly captures the moments at hand. Clavell has a very peculiar atmosphere about him, so it was only natural many felt he was going to be the obvious twist antagonist, but I'm very pleased to know that wasn't the case, so that we were given this great moment instead. Despite his story being simplistic, this OST really gave me chills and allows for the player to empathize with Clavell and his circumstances in general. Merely being a humble school Director, with a stern and polite exterior, but with a kind, empathic interior. S/V did a surprising solid job at conveying the stories, thoughts, and personalities of many of the unique characters. It's unfortunate alot for them weren't fully-fledged.
reading the comments and honestly surprised people thought he was going to be the main antagonist. He doesn't really have that 'main antagonist' feel to his design and him taking the place for the typical pokemon professor at the beginning of the game just made it more obvious that there's nothing villainous about him. He's just a headmaster who takes care to make his students feel welcome.
@@_.luminosity._ tbf "Cassiopeia" starts talking to you right before you left the school, while Clive shows up at the first Team Star location. And she talks when Nemona and Arven were with you, and most people already knew that Penny was the third member of the friend group.

His skeledirge was the only scary one for me because it had a massive special attack boost. I was only able to beat it with my Kingambit and the supreme overlord ability. (being underleveled didn't help either)
I got to this part and threw up my hands like, “SERIOUSLY, CLIVE IS THE LEADER?!” But, immediately as I heard the sequence at 1:18-1:39 - and the tone of the music became “encouraging” (if you will), I knew Clavel was up to a little game, and wanted to test my strength. It’s funny how music can convey something like that, albeit subjective. Props to the composers for a job well done here.
I’m not gonna lie. SV was MUCH better than I expected. All these hate campaigns on it almost persuaded me to not give it a chance. Ended up being a Top 5 Pokémon game for me. Just really needs some polishing. Solid 8.5/10
I feel like a dumbass. It wasn't until the game had to spell it out for you that it clicked Clive and Clavell were the same. I genuinely thought it was just some creepy older guy I wanted to stay 50ft away, and a case of reused assets
The biggest plot twist with Clavel was that there was no plot twist. Given the previous Generations, it was easy to look to the Academy for a true evil team, with Team Star being the red herring. Yet, Clavel was just being a lad the whole time. And I've never heard a battle theme so fitting for a character. It's calm, precise and elegant, yet still has that tension and impact a battle theme should have. Gen 9 might not be the best, but they really pulled no stops with the sound track. Every single piece in this generation has been an absolute banger, and I can't wait to hear the music of the DLCs.
I'm ashamed to say that after making fun of this guy for my entire playthrough, I got absolutely put in my PLACE during this battle and he sweeped my whole team.
I love that each story branch gave us a whole genre of musical overtone to enjoy. This track sounds like it should be part of Coliseum or Gale of Darkness which I dearly miss.
Me before playing the game: Ugh, I don’t really love the design, and I‘d real disappointed if he was another obvious twist villain Me after playing the game: he’s my best friend, he’s my pal. He’s my homeboy, my rotten soldier. He’s my sweet cheese, my good-time boy
I love how the first part of the theme just sounds super intimidating (like at 0:16 to 0:29) and is preparing for an insane beat drop, but then does a complete turnaround at 1:18
Yep... The worst thing that I could say about some of the characters is that I wanted see more (gym leaders), but when the game focused on a character it did a great job.
Don’t know why they had us fight Clavel so randomly and out of nowhere. I mean he was absent for, he story for so long! Honestly we should have fought Clive instead, man I wonder what happened to him
Seeing this guy NOT turn out to be a villain was easily the best part of the game for me and them Clavell became one of my favourite characters in all of pokemon ❤
The Gym Leader route is the most familiar. The Herba Mystica route is the most emotional. The Team Star route is overall the most interesting part, for me, at least. I liked the Gyms, and Arven is definitely tugging at my dog-adoring heartstrings, but man Team Star's just so cool.
Clavell ""I am cassopedia" trainer "That can't be, all 3 of us chatted on the phone regularly with you there" Clavell 'I understand your doubt, but it wasn't hard with a prerecorded... gizmek." trainer "...Look if you're gunna lie to me at least know what the devices are, even I know what a tape recorder is."
I like most of the battle themes truly from this game, but I think I like this especially since it is simpler but it has at the same time such a gentle and smooth melody, very different from those other truly dynamic major battle themes =)
I accidentally chose an option to find that clive is clavel during like, the first team star boss battle and I knew, but I didn't know he would fight us not for evil purposes (acturally team star isn't evil) but to protect his students. really like this also, it's a bit heartwarming to see the last starter as his last member, he takes good care of it after all
He actually used to be a researcher working alongside Sada/Turo on the Terastarization Project inside Area Zero, 10 years prior. So, actually, he's much closer to being Professor of those games... or should I say, he IS the actual Professor; doing intro stuff, handing over starters, and assisting you in the journey.

With the exception of the starters, all of Clavell's team fits perfectly. Although, I wonder if Clavell's Polteageist has an Antique form? He looks like several characters to possess this rare form.
I was wondering the same thing, it's a shame we couldn't zoom into the pokemon during battle!
@@banyalaplace Well there is Ditto, it could transform our opponents Pokémon.
I love that the plot twist with Clavell is that there is no plot twist
So I was like “damn this sounds like Great Ace Attorney”
APPARENTLY ITS THE SAME COMPOSER???
How many composers did they put into this game????
I believe it was 5 or 6
All of them
Yo i was thinking the same think lol
It was an all star cast of composers and it really paid off
it has better music than it does FPS
This man's efforts to do right by his students and trying to understand them are incredibly admirable. I love how he more or less pardoned team Star, and gave them a new purpose.
the way he goes to slick up his hair and realizes he doesn't have the pomp anymore at the school battle festival just kills me, really great character
"How do you do, fellow kids?"
I like to imagine that "Clive" disguise is how Clavell used to look in his teens... Which happened, like, 40, maybe 50 years ago?
@@Oscarus4250 my theory is clive disguised as clavell to hide his true power

I fought clavell during a sunset, it was *amazing*
@@Lunar1314_i also fought him during a sunset and the whole fight felt cinematic as hell
This song is the perfect example of there's no need to go hard or intense to be a great song. This song keeps you motivated to fight and beat him, no matter how many BS things he can set on his team or against yours
You know what, Clavell was more of a challenge than Penny was
Probably because Penny's whole team is just eeveelutions, honestly sucked that Penny was so easy to beat.
I'm pretty sure Clavel has always been stronger than Penny canonically. He was going to defeat her instead of you. He wasn't really that sure if you were going to be able to win, however winning him was the proof he needed to understand you wouldn't have a problem
For me this was the order of harder important battles:
1-clavel
2-penny
3-larry e4
4-archen

It all makes sense now... Professor kukui was clive all along!
I was just thinking that! 😂
Great battle theme. I really like how this battle theme switches from intense to calm
It's amazing only a true Pokémon master deserves this theme! =D
This is one of the only battles I lost next to Grusha. It was shockingly difficult if you weren't prepared

reading the comments and honestly surprised people thought he was going to be the main antagonist. He doesn't really have that 'main antagonist' feel to his design and him taking the place for the typical pokemon professor at the beginning of the game just made it more obvious that there's nothing villainous about him. He's just a headmaster who takes care to make his students feel welcome.

I hope they further flesh him out in the DLC. He kinda just disappeared at the tail-end of the Team Star storyline

First, you have to catch all 151 pokemon.
Then-
The part from 1:18 - 1:32 is absolutely beautiful
Agreed
It is the academy vibe that got me hooked
Tbh, it gives me a feeling like "you're about to graduate and you're facing off in a Pokémon battle against your principal as a final test"
Am I the only one who thinks that that part sounds like the Cascade Kingdom?
Clive has such a good theme
What are you talking about, this theme belongs to Clavell, who’s an entirely different character
Actually this theme belongs to Mr.Walksabout. I see where you got confused though.
Clavel is kinda like a Cyllene red herring where they play our assumption of expecting them being the villain at first but turns out it wasn't at all.
I personally loved how the principal is having a pokemon battle in the front area and not one student comes out to spectate
I feel him getting into fights with students must be a common sight there.

one of the toughest battles in the game, at least for me. aurora veil abomasnow, shell smash polteageist... he has a really well thought out team
That shell smash had me sweating bullets since I had just activated its weak armor. Thankfully he just used sucker punch😅
Same, the Polteageist turned the tides for a bloody second there. And then there is his quaquaval
His skeledirge was the only scary one for me because it had a massive special attack boost. I was only able to beat it with my Kingambit and the supreme overlord ability. (being underleveled didn't help either)
Only if you finish Starfall Street very earlier, to not have over leveled Pokémon by excessive trainers and Tera Wild Pokémon.
It’s become my favorite tbh
The framerate issues and the bugs are just not enough to outweigh the countless positives imo

Literally the best «evil» team don’t @ me

Music composer and arranger of this theme: *Toby Fox and Hiromitsu Maeba*
I don't know who is more mysterious, the Masked Royale from Alola or Clive.
I like most of the battle themes truly from this game, but I think I like this especially since it is simpler but it has at the same time such a gentle and smooth melody, very different from those other truly dynamic major battle themes =)
I accidentally chose an option to find that clive is clavel during like, the first team star boss battle and I knew, but I didn't know he would fight us not for evil purposes (acturally team star isn't evil) but to protect his students. really like this
also, it's a bit heartwarming to see the last starter as his last member, he takes good care of it after all
I like how throughout the game, every school rule that we are explained is broken at least once by another character.
This guy is definitely champion material, unlike Geeta. Man, imagine if he really was at the top.
He should’ve been the champion instead of Geeta
The real Cassiopeia…
Also this guy’s like, the best principal ever
