    Learn how to play Because, as performed by The Beatles released on their 1969 Abbey Road album. A beautiful and haunting chord progression and vocal performance for sure, and I always thought the guitar matched the harpsichord all the way through but I recently found that was not the case, and is in fact much easier to play than I had thought. No capo's needed, no adjusted tuning needed, all the chord shapes he played were very simple. Apparently John listened to Yoko Ono playing Moonlight Sonata on piano and asked her to try playing the chord progression backwards to see what that sounded like and he took that as inspiration to compose this song.
    The lesson covers John Lennon's arpeggio guitar that was on the record.

    Had no idea there were so many non-conventional chord shapes in this beautiful song. The backup vocals are heavenly. Thanks

      Yeah, the Beatles were famous for that. Well, they were famous for a lot of reasons, of course, but their chords--they have been driving me crazy for almost 60 years, trying to figure out their odd little deviations. They did it all the time. Probably one of the million things that made them different from everybody else.

    Holy CATS! What an undertaking - and what kind of mad genius writes a guitar arrangement like that??? Oh, right, John did 😀
    The kind of thing where even with the heavy lifting all done and laid out for you, you know it's still gonna take you a solid couple months to get close. Thanks!

    Yes! Love it! Thanks Doug. One of the greatest Beatles songs. John seems to have been fond of the arpegio style of playing on Abbey Road. Because, Sun King and possibly the next song you'll be tackling (hopefully) I Want You (She's So Heavy) all incorporate arpeggios.

      I think after his India trip where he learnt fingerpicking from Donovan a lot of his white album songs and abbey road songs were arpeggios. Dear Prudence, Julia, Happiness is a Warm Gun and as you mentioned several Abbey Road songs, including Octopus Garden.

    If Lennon and McCartney had never met, John would have been a Sid Vicious and Paul would have been a Barry Manilow.
    The stars aligned and the world changed.

      @Nobody_Important_Yea ...and since the different lineup would mean the breakup probably never happened, The Beatles would again play live, where Paul McManilow would cut his bare chest w/broken glass, then audience-surf while spreading peanut butter all over himself...

    I always learn so much from these videos. The first thing I learned on this one was that John played the lead! Never thought as much, since it's such a departure from his signature slashing, rhythmic style. Also, Harrison's "dissonant chord" is also used in the break of "I Want You ...", before the "she's so heavy" choruses ...

That'd be the Funnest Way, but many of Us are doing a solo Loop Performance thing..., If you Feel inspired. I think can do it. You've got a GOOD EAR!!

    Although this is an excellent video, I’ve learned how to play it with a capo on the fourth fret playing very similar notes, which I believe are probably the harpsichord notes. After listening to the isolated guitar part here and comparing to the finished product with the harpsichord I prefer the latter. It’s also easier to play. Thanks, though

    It was shortly after these Abbey Road sessions where Lennon would dip his Epi Casino in the Amazon River, so piranha could strip off all the white paint....true story..

    I believe John used a capo on 4th fret for this one

    • @12footchain
      @12footchain  3 месяца назад +3

      yeah i tried it that way too, and you'd have to tune the E string down a step to make that work, it all seemed too complicated to make it all work that way when you play the A major chord to then fret that A note on the 6th string - but if thats what he did hats off to him.

    • @sampopkin
      @sampopkin 3 месяца назад

      @@12footchain I think you’re right, those open strings make more sense without capo!

    • @theBuildingBlocksOfRock
      @theBuildingBlocksOfRock 3 месяца назад +1

      and arpeggiating the F# chord also becomes difficult if sixth string tuned down. Comparing this lesson to the isolated instrumental version it all sounds spot on - nice work Doug!
