I've said this before, and I'll say it again: I love it when you dive into Robbie Krieger's material. His was one of the most unique and authentic blues-rock styles, but he rarely gets mentioned for it. This is a great lesson, as always ...
Can’t wait to watch this video later. About 10 years ago I was in a classic rock cover band in a music store in Nashville and this is one of the songs we did. I played the harmonica part on guitar. Lol.
Well done. Your comments about playing to support the vocal, not step on it, will be helpful to newer players. Playing dynamics are really important, especially with an open, sort of loose groove like this song. Not only does that let the vocal stand out when it should, it gives the guitar a nice perceived boost when you play where's there's no vocals, and pick a little harder.... or mellow it way out playing very softly.
One of my favourite Doors songs… I’ve always been a Rhythm and Riffiin’ player. I love doing songs with a hard driving R&B sound. Now I know I’ve been playing this song wrong for about the last 50yrs. 😉 Thx again for another great song tutorial 😎🎸 ATB
What's truly amazing is that Roadhouse Blues was the B side to the You Make Me Real single. Morrison Hotel was recorded August-Nov '69, released Feb '70.
One of my favourite "The Doors" songs.... you nailed it.... I will have to take a long time to do this one, but, once again...Thank you, Thank you, Thank You...!!!!!
Hey man, I am 42 and a begginer at guitar. Your videos have been a blessing. Love them specially CCR. Cant wait to go home and practice this one. Doors are awesome! Cheers from Arizona 🍻
I always loved playing this live. Its a jam that grabs 'em up and puts 'em on the dance floor. You can easily extend the song too. Lots of fun. Appreciated.
Robby has a video where he shows how he plays it. It's a hammer on, not a slide. The 1st fret notes are like you said, almost glossing over them. Big fan of your lessons.
Me too bro,, he had a very unique style ! He was a finger picker,,,which to me is crazy !!! But that goes back to his earlier years as a practicing flamenco player. It's a crazy combination, but he made it all fit perfectly!!!! When you think about it, the entire band was a crazy combination !!! Keep on Rockn Bro ! 😂👍🎸🎶🎶🎶🎶
My friend here in Glasgow was touring as a guitarist with Simple Minds and spent a day with Robbie Krieger. I haven’t seen him since he got back to ask him about it.
So many great rock cliques in there that this makes for a great lesson, just for all the different little licks and styles thrown in there. Great lesson overall! Thanks!
Fantastic I was playing this with a band last year and as usual you picked up a couple of things I missed, absolutely love your channel for all those little details
Really Great Video! Doors has always been a favorite! Your Sound on this is Amazing! Spot On! Looking forward to more videos on dialing in your sound.. Thank You from Colorado! Glenn
Thanks!….hey man…I have played this song many years ago..WRONG ,,,,lol,,,,well at least I knew it-- I was close… just needed to fine tune it….thanks again… a group of professional musicians in Chicago just pick me up to finalize their line up for a Chicago-based classic rock dance band…. I needed to make sure I got this song right.
I wish you’d do Frank Marino’s version. Or anything else from Frank. I’ve been playing since 1977 and keep learning that virtual everything I play is wrong. Thanks for all the lessons.
A classic tune from Morrison Hotel - excellent breakdown and instruction Doug. Really appreciate you profiling the talent of Robbie Krieger and his ability to play the blues while accentuating the sound of the other members of the band. Some other good groves off that album. Peace Frog?
Thanks for this. I think the reason you hear Robby Krieger hitting individual notes on the verse licks is that he plays with his fingers and not a pick. There's a video of him on YT showing how he plays it and it's a thumb and fingers affair.
Luv the lesson my Brother and the SG !!! Been wanting to buy one for a long, long time ! They are not cheap ! But sooner or later I will build up the balls to part with the money !!! Lol !!! I am not cheap, but have 5 other axes, and one asks himself, do I really need another one ? Addiction is a terrible thing ! 😂😂😂✌️🎸🎸🎸✊️✊️✊️🎸🎸
Love the video, thanks. Seeing as Robbie plays with his fingers, it would be perhaps easier (and certainly quite different) for him when working through the solos. Not sure if you are in the band, or just wearing the t-shirt, but please say hi to George!
Like I say within the first minute or so, all my videos have chapters in them so you can click right to the part you to see, so just know if you come back to visit again (and I hope you do) just jump to the playing parts if that is what you are after.
Robby Krieger was one of the most underrated guitarist of the ages!! Back then you didn't need pedals to get your sound. It was always included in all your amps and gear. How about JH 'Love or Confusion' for a lesson??
He does teach it on RUclips himself, and he uses hammer ons in the main riff, not slides. I agree that it's not a clean sound and the recording sounds like slides (which he MAY have used), but i thinks that sound also might arise from the fact that he's probably using upstrokes with his fingers on those triplets, whereas I notice you are using picked downstrokes there. Like you say, it's loose, as ones approach should also be, but I think it's interesting to attempt to discern how an artists approach affects the outcome. Your amp tone is spot on. Thanks for the lesson!
Great tutorial!! Not sure if Robbie recorded the song with the SG. Much of his recording studio material was performed on his Black Beauty Les Paul Custom.
I WANT Several Says, but I'll have to go with Epiphone, or Other - I have a Harley Benton, tuned to Open E for Slide - something that is gong to Take Time but I really want to EMBRACE, Duane Allman!! And, Tom Gray of DELTA MOON, an Atlanta based Band - his passed away about 2 years ago... after extensive battle with that cancer monster... , but He Never Quit playing and his 2nd Guitarist, Mark Johnson - ch😅 put their album version, first and then the Live version of, R.L. Burnside's, Goin' Down South!!! All the Best!!
Saw him live in '09 front row, Robbie played right in front of me whole show was his marker. I was 10 feet from him. As a guitarist amazing guitar lesson from Robby Krieger first hand. To see Spanish Caravan played properly in front of you finger style is amazing.
Come on man. I bet it’s the only tune you can play ? Show off ? Don’t make a science of it just play. Did you know ? Most of hits of 70? We’re made accidentally?? Beeng drunk ? Or drugs ?
I've said this before, and I'll say it again: I love it when you dive into Robbie Krieger's material. His was one of the most unique and authentic blues-rock styles, but he rarely gets mentioned for it. This is a great lesson, as always ...

So cool.

You are awsome my brother from Warren 😎
Nice insight into Robbie Krieger's style. Looking forward to more Doors tutorials. Thanks for posting!
It's such a great hook 12 foot. Keep um coming. You're lesson are the best.
Thank you!
You get a lot of energy when teaching us The Doors music! We do to, many of their ideas are SO SIMPLE yet so musical and effective. Thanks!
Thanks!!! Another, Favorite!! I saw The Back Doors in Atlanta - they were Quite Good!!!
You nailed that tone...
Nice work 12Ft, as I have always been a Fan of Robbie Krieger & The Doors. Happy Easter ♪♫♪♫♪

Love the Doors , this is great !
I Love the Official Musical Notation! I’m plugging in, mixing and a matching! Thanks!
Nice lesson, again.
That SG is gorgeous

Gonna have a real good time. Great lesson! Thank you.
I like this detail!
Fantastic lesson.Love this. Have an SG plus Lyre and just had it cranked as I type....
I thought how wrong I've been playing it. Very cool...I'll be doing it proper from now on!
great breakdown and explanation of how to play. i play most songs wrong lol. your lessons really help me improve.
Simple minds waterfront
Intro always reminds me of roadhouse blues ...
A great sound/tone, but what a great riff and song. Again, a good lesson to a very cool song. 👍👍👍
3 whole minutes before I hear a single guitar note played. I was thinking this lesson better be bloody good
Frighin Awesome Sir!

Awesome. Thank you 🎉

Awesome original song but I prefer status quos version
Great. Lonnie mack
Epic!
Great tutorial!! Not sure if Robbie recorded the song with the SG. Much of his recording studio material was performed on his Black Beauty Les Paul Custom.
haha he said duh? awesome!! thankyou man!
Doing us right!
Great tutorials. I have a song suggestion the original: Rock me baby by BB king. thks
Nice Axe.
Great lesson as always. Would like to request "The End" the next time you do a Doors lesson.
Your lessons stand out. Are you a studio musician.
No, but would love to try that
Great lesson as always! I always wondered why Krieger used solid state amps (Acoustics?) instead of a good old Fender Twin, for example.
He used Acoustic amps only live. All studio work was recorded with a Twin Reverb.
Great lesson but can we have LA Woman, please?
I would like to learn Kozmic Blues by Janis Joplin blues group . Also Summertime ....
There's an alternate take solo on the studio footage of Summertime on RUclips.
I still wonder, how a roadhouse can make you sad.
I cut the chain! I'm playing with my transmitter/receiver toy!😂
Where did you pick up that shirt? Interesting take on the zoso symbol.. Awesome channel
That’s a band that does Zeppelin covers. Great stuff!
Look up pfoz on youtube. People's front of Zeppelin. Love what those guys do

yes, muting is THAT important here! Here you will hear if people can play a proper shuffle beat....many think they can but when they play it...grrrhhh
I thought the guy with the guitar at a glance was Pauley Shore, lol.
Why slides????
ruclips.net/video/uEL1IWw0DgM/видео.html
Step one... Get a Quarter... Or a Nickel in a pinch 😂
So much blabbing, get to the riffs man!!! Adios
Also Robbie hardly ever used a pick which is why his thumb on his right hand has been worn down to a 1/4 inch nub.
Ha, made you look.
