It was brought to my attention that the Ray Manzarek keys part is a D Maj scale, not Em as I had said in the vid. One note difference, but oh well. The chart in the vid is correct, just got the scale name wrong.
I think we would call it E dorian? an E minor scale with same key signature, notes, as D major. Has a major 6th, but the minor 6th (C) does also appear in the C chord
That's what I'm talking about! I believe I requested this recently, including the keyboard solo and the outro. Thank you for taking the time to put together this tour de force of a lesson, keeping it approachable, and revealing a little bit of what makes this song so otherworldly and yet such a classic. I have no idea how you will top this one, but I look forward to future lessons!
Awesome lesson, this is the only lesson I have seen anyone do on the keyboard part. I have the piano notes and have attempted some transcriptions to the fretboard. Thank you for sharing you knowledge and skills. I'm tugging hard on chain of mine.
There's a great video if you can find it of Ray Manzarek and Robbie Krieger talking about writing the song. They said it was based on Ghost Riders In The Sky.
Now you need do The End so I might finally know the question that’s bedeviled me for so long. What /how is the plinking sound at the start of the song. played? I have had ideas but they’ve proven to be incorrect!
Yes, skip down/up one...isn't that Magic Fingers by Zappa..? Actually, probably more like skip down four and up one... can't be sure; I'm driving... (also, it only works if your fingers turn into little snakes on the fretboard....)

Emi is the second diatonic scale degree in D major so you are in the harmonic ballpark 😎

Most underrated guitar player of his time!! He really kept the Doors afloat for a long time!!!
Came for the Krieger, stayed for the Manzarek! Fantastic! Thank you!

How's about a tutorial on David Lee Roth/Steve Vai 'Damn Good'! It's a great song and there's not many Steve Vai acoustic tunes out there!
How about a Backdoor Man lesson?? I know he plays it live differently!!
As a Scottish 🏴 fan of this channel what about a guitar and bass tuition for The Strangles La Folie. 👍🏻👍🏻
@steviemac8075 That's a great idea; just don't bring Harry...
Huh????
@@juana1483 It's a Stranglers reference...
