Not only do i love your demeanor but you were very thorough and explained it well enough a child should be able to follow along. Much respect and appreciation from MI!
was dealing with this BS for days. Resistors didnt work, Badlander equalizer didn't work. THIS WORKED, and worked well. Self cancelling doesn't function but i can live with that. The biggest help of this was you pointing out not to wire them in line with the rear lights, but to follow the harness back before it splits to front/rear. I owe you a beer.
It worked ! After hours of frustration and failure trying to retrofit FXR with LED lights and ballast resistors I followed your video and it worked perfectly !
I don't think I could have found a more perfect video for what I was looking for. I love how straight-to-the-point everything is, and the absolute Candor of the comments. Excellent job. I'll be coming back.
Thank you for the video. Simple and easy to follow. I did this mod for my 2004 VRSC and it’s good to go. The relays were a pain to figure out a location, due to the limited space on the vrod. I ended up taking the relay cases apart, and encasing the actual , much smaller relay, in rubber cement. Works perfectly. Thanks again!
Scott, you saved me a lot of headache! Put LED on my wife’s sportster, same issue just turned on, no blink....wtf figured I needed to add a resistor, but watched the video and ordered the orange relays ... all soldered and shrinked ... perfect! Love the adjustability on the relays! $7/each and 20 min of work DONE! Let’s ride!
I did this today! Got the 2 orange LED relays off Amazon, all works perfectly, the only downside is that I've now lost the hazards, but I've only ever used them once , thank you so much for this video
That is an unfortunate side effect. Haven’t found an answer to it as of yet. But the end result (in my opinion) is worth the easy cost vs. what Harley wants to charge for their conversion kits. Lol
Dude, you are the freaking man. I’ve been busting my head for over a month with a 2000 Sportster 883 XLH. 100% solved! I only had to do it with the left blinker. Ordered it from amazon but it wasn’t the same brand. Worked like a charm. Thanks for the video bro.
It's as simple as a relay to slow down the hyper flashing. When folks say that the lights stay on constant, what they don't realize is that the light is actually flashing, its just flashing so fast that you cant even see it. The relay will slow down the blinking. But thank you for your video, I am the type of person that learns from others mistakes, and I have learned a few things from your video, I will take that info and store it in my mind forever as if I learned from failing myself. :) Since 2017 they have came up with even newer relays that allow for you to adjust the speed of the flasher, I love technology! Thanks brother!
I have searched and searched and searched for answers to my problem. Even my Haynes manual doesn't answer my issue. But you did. So thank you for that. I'm now subscribing.
Clear and sassy. I put a relay from a Kawasaki that i had laying around and it did the same thing, blink but as soon as I rev solid light. Great vid exact vid i needed and fixed.
I have a 1976 Sportster ironhead 1000. I can't find any mechanics in WV who knows jack shit about them or they just aren't talking to me because I am a noob. The bike came with no turn signals and I was stuck. I am not a mechanic nor an electrician. This video is not the same bike as mine but your method is perfect. Thank you for saving me a ton of headache. You have made a fan of me sir. Thank you
Awsum thanks for posting this, worked a treat on my sporty! Cheep Chinese relays off ebay with 3 inches of wire built into the flasher relay, black to lights red to relay box. Cheers from New Zealand
Best video I have seen about this answered every question I had gotta wire mine up in the next few days took all the questioning out of it for me thanks
Awesome!!! Straight up and forward! That damn beeping in your video had me looking all around my damn garage!! Until I shut the video off and realized it was yours!!! Thanks for the great info I'll update after I get the relays and done!
@@Roger_That_Scott so I followed your instructions to a "T" got the two relays off Amazon installed the 4 blacked out LED bullet style blinkers and they worked like a charm!! this went on a 1999 sportster 1200 as a gift for my youngest son's 22nd birthday!! Along with a very nice rolling tool box! Thanks for the video!
Thanks for this, used this for my 95 XL. recently did a rear running/turn signal conversion with led’s but wouldn’t blink. Wired these directly to my tsm as you stated and all worked well, but in my case I had to put incandescents back up front because when led’s(1157’s) were on, only front right would stay on as a running light. When incandescents were put back in infront both front running lights worked.
Thanks a ton for this. Had a sportster that had the harness hacked and was having trouble getting blinkers installed and working with what remained. This was exactly what I needed. Thanks!
Great video! Running into the same exact issue on my dyna after installing an LED tail light, same scenario as yours, all other lights stock. Going to order those same relays. Thanks again!!
This worked perfectly for me!! thanks!!!! My buddy and i were struggling with this for weeks and after watching your video and sending $8, the problem was solved!!!
Thank you so much for an awesome video. One of the best I've seen. Will have mine here tomorrow and will be on the road again tomorrow night. Thanks again!
Like having my buddy in the shop beside me helping me fix it well done video and everything I said to myself like bet he don't mention 2 wires up front for running lights and then not only mention them answer the question I had about em thanks man much appreciated
Perfect video. Simple and to the point. Ordered my relays on amazon even before the video ended. 16 bucks canadian for two. That's only about a buck seventy five for you americans. Lol.
The only thing I'd do different is not use solder. If you use a Western Union / Nasa splice and cover with a marine grade shrink wrap. The marine grade stuff is thick and coated with an adhesive the seals the wire. The good thin about not using the solder is the wire remains flexible and relieves stress on the wire. Great tutorial
Thanks so much for this detailed and to-the-point tutorial. I just installed LED front signals and they happen to work just fine. But now my rear turn signals just stay on constant when I hit the turn button. Hopefully this is the fix. Thanks!
Thank you Scott! Worked like a charm. Finished the setup on my wife's 2000 Sportster. Same tail light as the one in your video, but I replaced the old bullets with new led bullets. Required tapping into the running light wire on the tail light harness to get running lights working on the new bullets. Soldered the wires and everything is working perfect. Fun project.
Thank you for the video. Very clear and helpful. I did on my 96 sportster with new front LED's. The left blinker works fine without any relay. The right intermittently works. Sometimes solid, sometimes blinks. I'm on my 3rd relay. This one is orange with an adjuster screw. It seemed great, but an hour into a ride, it started to blink quick and varied a bit. I'm scratching my head and about to try a resistor instead of the relay. I couldnt tell if it was a speed related issue or heat maybe. Or lower voltage after riding a while and low engine RPM. I can't isolate why its acting weird. If you have any insight, it would be appreciated.
Hey thank you so very much for doing this video it helped me out tremendously I just hooked up the electronic relays like you showed and they’re working perfectly😂
thanks, my question about front LED turn signals came up at the end. I used the same relays for the rear LED taillight and now installing the front LED turn signals.
Dude you are a best bro thank you so much video was just great been struggling with this for weeks u made my day thanks so much for you taking the time to do it
I fitted LED strips at the rear end and LED’s integrated in the mirrors at front with load resistors for one and each of the four lights. I was told that load resistors did the trick, but the only result was a slightly lighter wallet. Pissed me off somewhat, but now I’ve got something new to try out. So just these two solid state relays, no load resistors, right?
Thanks so much just bought harley front led lights noticed they stay on sometimes and the 4ways on cluster come on even though the blinkers are working sometimes properly but cluster shows 4 ways on gonna try this and see if it fixes it
Hey Scott, great video!! You said the grey box bolted to the rear mud guard shouldn't need changing, but I have no front and rear lights on the left side, could this be the grey box? Thanks

Excellent video very helpful. Question for you, I know its an old video, so I get it if I don't get a response. Just bought a sporster with the front blinkers deleted & wiring removed, also having the same no flash issue in the back. Bought some replacements for the front and I'm thinking about splicing/wiring them into the rear turn signal wiring harness, as it's a little bit easier than digging into the harness or splicing out of the module. Is this a bad call & will lead to issues? Or will I be ok if I do it this way?
Thanks for the vid. How's that tail light holding up? I got in a week ago and two bulbs are dim now. I have an '02 sportster so it vibrates like crazy, I think this may be why.
Hey Scott, I'm going through the same thing right now and I have led signals on the front AND rear of my bike? Do you as well and if so did it work? If not will it work with led signals on both? Or will there still be too much load? Thanks
The only downside to wrapping and taping that blue wire is that you will lose that constant running light. I would recommend running the constant wire into the flasher wire but wire in a diode to the flasher wire. The diode will keep your rear signals from flashing because of the constant being wired into the flashing. For folks out there that do not know what a diode is: It's like a raccoon trap. It lets the raccoon in, but not out. The diode will allow the power to go into the turn signal to make it constant but keep it from running back to your rear turn signals and flashing all time time no matter what. The diode let's the power in but not out.
Sorry for so late of a reply. But no, no matter what combination of standard and LED you install (front or rear) the process is the same. All off the signal power comes out of that gray box and goes to both front and back.
So you no longer have running light out of your from turn signals? I would want to solve the issue for both front and rear while keep the lights fully functional.
Nice job, well done. Now we need one for the FL's. FL TSM is under the rear fender so mounting the relays under the fender the only option..😮 Might try splicing into the purple and brown on the way up to the front...
This worked well for me. Thanks for the info. BUT, I actually installed the same tail light on my Harley. Maiden run the cover fell off (lost on the highway) They wouldn't replace it, but it's so cheap I bought another and put a zip tie on it. Now it seems they work when I go slow. But on the highway they don't work 😂😂

Does it matter to have standard turn signals at the rear and LED turn signals in the front. LED lights use less power but standard is a bit high.
Sorry for so late of a reply. But no, no matter what combination of standard and LED you install (front or rear) the process is the same. All off the signal power comes out of that gray box and goes to both front and back.
