Great job!! For a guy who says he's not a mechanic he sure as hell did some fine work on this old Sporty!! I'd hire him to do these mods on my bike any day of the week! Anyway the only down side with the air filter is that if you are not a fair-weather rider and do some riding in the rain, the filter will get wet. If the stock air cleaner is to bulky and gets in your way I suggest and S&S tear drop air cleaner. It's a classic/iconic look, smaller in profile and has a housing to protect from the rain while still getting more air intake.
I have a '93 Sportster (that I bought new in '93!), I put on a bob fender with a blue-dot catseye taillight. the license plate hangs under the light, it looks clean and no legal problems. Sportsters for life!
Of all the Harley videos...yours was the only one that helped me figure out removing the front signals, so I could flip the mirrors. Keeping the stock signals on...but am very impressed with those thin adhesive LEDs. May get some, and add them lower on the forks, or possibly the engine guard...low and wide. I have the same back rest and pad... going to gloss it, also. Thanks for posting...nice work, looks great.
Really nice rebuild, you did some things I'd like to do on my sportster as well. Especially lowering the back suspension, the bike looks a lot cooler like that!
I have the same bike. Your video inspired me to do all this. Your links in the description really helps with the finds. Very helpful and thank you for sharing this video. 👍
Holy hell I would love to roll up on the starting line at a hare scramble with that beast!! Talk about a head turner! One cannot fathom the amount of hand built parts here. Hats off man!
I turned my ‘97 883 into a 1200 monster using Buell Thunderstorm Heads, pistons and cams. Exhaust is a Thunderheader with a K&N filter and jet kit on a stock 39mm carb. My mini corvette!!
Very good job, much better looking bike now. Just an FYI, anyone who removes their stock baffles, Big City Thunder Exhausts makes replacement baffles that install in the header pipes, gives a nice sound and adds some back pressure also.
Great job, I even have the same taillight, fortunately I had the ends that clipped right in. That said I get wanting to clean her up and slim it down, but I still recommend having the engine bars. They legit saved my Fatboy when I went down on it, well them and the saddle bags
I have the same bike. I changed the seat, levers, incense plate to a side plate, and exhaust. That’s all I did. Added a awesome saddle bag. And done. 1200 conversion kit is next
This bike is pretty much the way mine's being built, I have the same rear shocks and air cleaner. One thing that I did different is I put a set of 4"over front fork tubes. I'm also swapping the bars through time to a set of 6-8" mini apes.
Another quick mod is to flip the mirrors under the bars, and it actually helps visibility a lot in my experience. Note when you do this you'll have to swap sides so Right mirror goes under Left grip and vise versa
Nicely done! I can fix almost anything around the house but I know very little about cars and I'm certainly not a motorcycle mechanic. This was fun to watch and I could easily do the things you did on my own bike. I used to have a bike. It's been a while but I'm looking to get one again within the next year. Nice to know I can do these upgrades myself. It's saves some money and makes owning a bike even more fun when you do it yourself. One thing - Don't paint the driveway stones! Next time put down some cardboard when you paint! You know dad would've slapped ya upside the head for that! lol
Nice makeover-looks great. Only thing I would add is taller bars-if it was mine. You spent the minimum and made it look awesome. Def stamp of approval brother.
If you want to put baffles back in that helps with performance and not spend any extra money look into homemade lollypop baffles they actually work really well
I have an 05 Sportster. It's a fun little motorcycle. I don't kid myself into thinking its anything other than what it is... But it is nearly impossible to go for a ride and not smile from ear to ear. I previously owned a '14 Triumph scrambler, it was alright with similar power. The Harley just makes me grin though.
Great video mate! Just got my first Harley (first bike at all!) '94 S&S Sportster. Like what you've done and it gave me some ideas. Like the front turn signals and the lowered rear end. I was wondering how those rear fender trims came off, as I plan to get different rear turn signals as well.
Just a couple things that I noticed. The plate holder needs a light. The tail light is illegal because the turn signals are not spaced far enough apart. Your throttle and clutch cables are running in front of your forks, should not do that for safety. Like to know what headlight you used because I couldn't get one that fit in the housing.
I'm impressed you can do all this. O just bough an 07 883 low need new mirrors left one ok right one is loose. I want to do a 1200 conversion kit it's only got 4200 miles on it
Your bike looks much better now. In my state, those turn signals must have a running light mode besides the blinker mode. I like to make the rear lights red in every mode for safely. I do have a phobia about being rear-ended by a car. I was close to that happening may years ago and was lucky the driver looked up just in the nick of time to stop withing about six inches of me. Your new sadle looks great, btw.
I was hoping that you were going to clean up the bike as you dismantled parts of it. Like under the original saddle. I may be a bit more OCD then others, though. You did make some nice upgrades here.
Can you please tell me specifically how you were able to get those rear blinkers loose, I have a 2002 HD sportster and there is no nut under fender and those things won't budge? I would greatly appreciate any help, as I have a sissy bar I want to mount but need to get the stock backrest off and blinkers are in the way.
Yeh nice, im working on ideas for my 2007sportstar.. like the seat and headlights, but the numberplate and flimsey sissybar got me confused.. also your turn signals, are they legal?.) Im pretty happy having winders on me shockies, your pretty talented man good vid. 👍
I agree. I have a softail modded by the previous owner. I put the factory turn signals back on in their factory location. Safer, I’m thinking, having a visible separation between the left and right. I’m glad the man I bought it from saved the factory parts.
I just got a 2006 Sportster 1200 XL Custom for my son. I am stoked on what can be done to this bike. Your video is great and I definitely will be making these modifications. Question: fuel gauge ????? can it be done since it does not have one.

Really simple mods, done with skill and know-how, make a big difference. Very nice work, dude.

Looks a lot better, good job, have a blessed week my friend.
Really nice rebuild, you did some things I'd like to do on my sportster as well. Especially lowering the back suspension, the bike looks a lot cooler like that!
Nice mods... I just picked up an old project roadster myself... appreciate the video. I love that engine guard you removed!!!
I have the same bike. Your video inspired me to do all this. Your links in the description really helps with the finds. Very helpful and thank you for sharing this video. 👍
I've had baffles "fall out" before too...
Haha. Nice project.
Love those sportsters! Nice simple build with a really cool bike! Great video!
Finally got to see how you can and should use the bike jack! Thanks for the excellent content.
What an absolutely beautiful bike. I would love one identical to this. Well done with all your nicely thought out mods. Stephen.
Holy hell I would love to roll up on the starting line at a hare scramble with that beast!! Talk about a head turner! One cannot fathom the amount of hand built parts here. Hats off man!
Looks great. A little tweak here and there and some new parts that don't break the bank and you got a almost new look that feels like a new bike.
I turned my ‘97 883 into a 1200 monster using Buell Thunderstorm Heads, pistons and cams.
Exhaust is a Thunderheader with a K&N filter and jet kit on a stock 39mm carb.

Great job man restoring my sportster it spent a good amount of time outside by the ocean in Florida 🤙🇺🇸
Great job, I even have the same taillight, fortunately I had the ends that clipped right in.

this is AWESOME. Thanks from a 2004 Sportster owner cheers
I also have a 2004 sportster and I love it
This bike is pretty much the way mine's being built, I have the same rear shocks and air cleaner. One thing that I did different is I put a set of 4"over front fork tubes. I'm also swapping the bars through time to a set of 6-8" mini apes.
great look i flipped the stock bars and moved the speedo as well on my 02 hugger
There is a cover made specifically to cover the license plate holes in the fender. J&P Cycles probably carries them.
J&P Cycles Part Number: 340-700: 340-701: 3050098:or in black 340-0088
These simple small changes really made a new bike of it. The only thing I don’t like is the gray engine. The newer black engine looks so sweet.
Some great mods, i can see my bank balance dropping pretty soon as I start putting some of these on my XL53C!😆
Another quick mod is to flip the mirrors under the bars, and it actually helps visibility a lot in my experience. Note when you do this you'll have to swap sides so Right mirror goes under Left grip and vise versa
And they work better when you flip them... instead of seeing your shoulder... you could see perfectly behind you under your arm.
You so make me want to get a sportster now! Great vid.
Just did a new breather on my baby yesterday. So much better!! I need handlebars next! I really dig those led turn signals though that’s bad ass!!
Nicely done! I can fix almost anything around the house but I know very little about cars and I'm certainly not a motorcycle mechanic. Nice video. Definitely not to crazy of mods. Added some few touchs and looks great
My respect for such Humble person
Nice makeover-looks great. Only thing I would add is taller bars-if it was mine. You spent the minimum and made it look awesome. Def stamp of approval brother.
Brilliant job! Thank you. Greetz from Amsterdam😊
Finally, someone I actually enjoy learning from ! Thanks dude ,I just subscribed to your channel
Right on ! Fun to watch😁
Just bought my 1st bike at 19 and it's an 01 sporty. Love what u did definitely stealing some ideas
She was singing!❤ Good job.
I used the quick disconnect backrest and put an Oak St. Benedict cross on it.
If you want to put baffles back in that helps with performance and not spend any extra money look into homemade lollypop baffles they actually work really well
Nice mods you did for a newer sportster. My old 1980 Sportster I put a 38 Mikuni VM Carb and XLR pipes. Ran real good back in the day.
you still have your Ironhead?
@@PeteDriver530 No, I sold it. :(
Never seen a sporty w a headlight lid. Looks like a dyna cool bike man
Thank you so much for all the link to amazon
Sweet, looks good.. Ahhh memories 1965 Triumph Bonneville 650 rode it all over, Can't ride anymore Hell I can't hardly walk..LMAO

Small projects big result... Greta job
Well done 👍. The sporty has new life 👍😂
Great looking bike!!
Looks way better
some good choices .. I like this ... for the holes yu mentioned... what about just put a chrome bolt in them..
Always wondered what a set of spring front shocks on the sportster would look like.
Going to do the same plate and taillight to my dyna
Use stripper. Re-prime, sand, and paint. Just a little tank. 😃👍

cool! :) still riding my '93 almost 27 years later! they're great bikes, before H-D made them hard to work on
Great job dude 👍
nice bike man! like the improvements u did!
The "...air box..."?? Great video!!! Nice job on the add ons!!! 🙌😀🙌
Great vid ......the bike looks lots better
Hope you still have it.
Next: Forward Controls and a pair of screaming eagle 2 pipes. ( or short shots) Nice bike dude...
Short Shots...VH.......Look an Sound great.....purchase the Tuner with them....
I miss my sporty! Nice touches

I'd lower the front fender an inch from the tire for sleek fitment by drilling new fender mount holes.
Im gettin the same one soon cant wait dont know if im gonna change anything around or not
I like what you did! Much better!
I'm impressed you can do all this. O just bough an 07 883 low need new mirrors left one ok right one is loose. I want to do a 1200 conversion kit it's only got 4200 miles on it
Nice work sir!
2005 sporty looking like 2010! Nice!!
I just put the exact same mirrors on my bike.
What a difference the seat made.
Awesome job. I like it a lot.
The more black the better. Looks good!

Yeah those near misses are happenjng way to often these days thanks to the hypnotic effects of cellphones people just cant resist
Cool bike! Great video!
How about a "Don't Die" Sticker to cover the holes in back?
Very nice man!
I love it
Looks like you need a shorter jiffy stand now. It does look a lot better with lower rear. I lowered the back of my 2007 Fat Boy, as well as the front.
Really nice, wish I knew you or live around your area I could use some parts you dont want anymore
I ride a roadglide but i love sportsters
Just my opinion, every sporty needs to be like this. Kinda bobber looking. If you want to go cruise then get a street glide like I did!
Wheels down...
Man, my baffles also just “fell out”…. Crazy….. 😉
Looks awesome! 🤘🏻☠️🤘🏻
Only opinion I have is, I would have left that engine guard on! Everything else looks tight!
Dude I'll take the turn signals you took off.
Is that a Rhodesian Brushstroke hat? Best camo pattern ever made.
I was hoping that you were going to clean up the bike as you dismantled parts of it. Like under the original saddle. I may be a bit more OCD then others, though. You did make some nice upgrades here.
Great job. About the license relocation, NY finest don't break you stones about not having a light on your plate?
Can you please tell me specifically how you were able to get those rear blinkers loose, I have a 2002 HD sportster and there is no nut under fender and those things won't budge? I would greatly appreciate any help, as I have a sissy bar I want to mount but need to get the stock backrest off and blinkers are in the way.
I dig it man and good video work
good shit
How did the break light and front signal light from Amazon held up?
Thank you!! Stay tuned.
Cool video sir! You are quite talented at figuring shit out. Is that the Biltwell mongoose seat? Love the bike man, keep up the good work!
Yeh nice, im working on ideas for my 2007sportstar.. like the seat and headlights, but the numberplate and flimsey sissybar got me confused.. also your turn signals, are they legal?.) Im pretty happy having winders on me shockies, your pretty talented man good vid. 👍
Amazingly transformed. The bike looks super cool now. Brother what’s the size of the rear tire?! Did you upsize from stock ?
I'm looking at a 2004 Sportster. Do you have any tips on what to be aware of? Would you buy this bike again? Etc... Thanks for the video!
Hope you stay safe small turn signals are dangerous please be careful especially in the northeast
I agree. I have a softail modded by the previous owner. I put the factory turn signals back on in their factory location. Safer, I’m thinking, having a visible separation between the left and right. I’m glad the man I bought it from saved the factory parts.
the sound !
I just got a 2006 Sportster 1200 XL Custom for my son. I am stoked on what can be done to this bike. Your video is great and I definitely will be making these modifications.
Question: fuel gauge ????? can it be done since it does not have one.
