- What is the best aquarium and pond sterilizer for the price.
Depends on if your looking for actual sterilization or just clarification. Most UV sterilizers are actually just clarifiers and cannot provide aquarium or pond sterilization. The best sterilizers can provide level 1 or level 2 sterilization, which is bacterial, parasite, and virus control.
Many are marketed as sterilizations, but only provide clarification.

Why even need a uv sterilizer?
ruclips.net/video/gEXHnrawZZk/видео.html
I have a hundred gallon planted freshwater aquarium with a Vecton uv sterilizer on it. Nothing unique until I tell you the tank is located in a solarium sunroom with three 8’x4’ skylights and four 8’x8’ sliding glass doors, all in a 20’x40’ area. I was told I couldn’t successfully keep a tank in a place like this, yet, years later, here it is, thriving and healthy plants and fish. The only time I had an algae problem was when it I didn’t notice it was time to replace the bulb, I had to buy a magnetic glass scraper and use it only that one time. Replaced the bulb and all was right again. One very happy and very low maintenance tank that brings me joy.
I could not recommend any other product more. I stick with what I know will work.
Thank you for this excellent video. I learned a lot. Helped me with the build of my DIY Pond UV light source. Carry On.
Welcome. Careful with the diy uv. Pvc available would be uv rated and risk of electrical issues. All the best
very informative thanks
Hey Devon, what do you think of the DeBary 25W AN-25E? cheers from Australia!
I believe these are a version of the Aqua Ultraviolet, which is so is one of the better UVs and one of the few Category A UVs you can purchase.

great video are these UV good 600 gallon koi pond ? if is what is best price and product that I can get thank.
Anywhere from 50 to 10,000 gallons. I would read the details of this video for the link and pricing (some are in short supply due to pandemic induced shipping issues along with very high demand)
I have a fresh water, 38 gallon tank. I have a particular interest in combating parasites, as well as algae. What unit would you recommend?
Definitely the 'Category A' AAP Vecton 200 8 Watt UV run at 100 gph (or lower). You not find any better true UV Sterilizer at any price. www.americanaquariumproducts.com/TMCUVSterilizer.html
@@Leozyoo You could get level 2 sterilization with a 25 watt Vecton at 250gph flow. www.americanaquariumproducts.com/TMCUVSterilizer.html#vecton6
@@Leozyoo Yes, although for this size, I would might suggest two for a higher level of Sterilization ina a marine aquarium (or the AAP/TMC 55 Watt Advantage model)
So which UV sterilizer should I buy?
The simple answer if you want the best Category A UV Sterilizer, the Vecton or Advantage model that fits your needs best.

Will I get level 2 sterilization running a Vectron 600 uv sterilizer on an fx6 with 120 gallon freshwater tank without reducing flow on the fx6?
To answer this you would really need to measure the gph flow through the fx6 right before it enters back into the aquarium. The flow will be less then the fx6 advertises. You'll want 200-300gph.
I suggest reading the detailed UV Sterilization article in the video details, as it answers this question in exact detail in the flow chart section
Hi... I have 400 gal and 150 gal saltwater tank all connected to a 200gal sump, what do you recommend? I would not use a pump, gravity feed.
This would basically be a system installation. For this the AAP/TMC 110 PRO or 55 PRO connected to the return from the sump would be best.

I have a 75 gallon fancy goldfish tank. What sterilizer should I get that wont blow them all over the place. I also have a HOB filter and not a canister.
A UV Sterilizer generally does not blow anything since most are an inline device. This said there is one TRUE UV Sterilizer that is self contained with the pump & filter included. This is the AAP CUP series which have a flow rate of 200 gph. Even then if flow is too high, You place in a corner & simply aim the output against the glass or any direction that will diffuse the flow.

What is the absolute best sterilizer (regardless of price) I can put on a 135 gallon freshwater tank that I plan to have a sump on with anoxic filtration and possibly a canister as well for mechanical filtration?
In my experience with my aquarium maintenance company over 3 decades , I found no better results than with the AAP/TMC Vecton line of UVs. For your size aquarium, I would suggest the AAP Vecton 600 UV
Carl Strohmeyer thank you very much for your help and replying so quickly.
Does AAP still carry Vecton UV Sterilizers seems that they are discontinued in just about all other shops in the US?
Our suppliers are having delays with shipping right now, but they are on their way.
They are now in stock and going fast sine they are easily the best UV Sterilizer on the market, yet still reasonably priced!
It's too bad none of the HOB units provide true sterilization. I think there'd be a market for something simple to setup and use like an HOB.
The main reason is design, it really is simply not possible to achieve level one or higher UV with a design that would work.
What is worse IMO, is the people who either refuse to look back at history or allow some mentoring, or worse know all this, then market the cr## posing as a true UV Sterilizer mated to an HOB filter.
A little aquarium UV Sterilizer history in this resource:

which vecton should i buy for my 125 gallon freshwater tank?
The Vecton 600 (25 Watt) would be best.

So if you just want to get rid of algae just use a clarifier instead of a sterilizer?
Yes & no. A basic clarifier is much less efficient for green water control.
As well, having a true Category A or B UV Sterilizer will help with Aquarium Redox Balance & much more and is worth the purchasing over a basic clarifier.
I suggest reading this article in FULL:

What confuses me, about the clarifier part of a cheap Uv is I’ve seen plenty of green and or cloudy water being cleared by the cheap uv’s. I’m not speaking of parasite control just the green and or cloudy water being cleared up in about 3 days using cheap uv’s.
Question : Why are you guys recommending the Vecton 600 for aquariums up to 180- 500 gallon (1892 liter) when the manufacturer TMC only give it up to 160 US gal (600 Liters) ??
You need to read the in depth, research based article that this video is based (see the video details). It is explained in there in depth. The flow chart table in particular will provide you your answer.
We do not recommend based on arbitrary manufacturer recommendations (which in the case of the Vecton 600 is more closely meant for level two sterilization), rather the science based calculation in this article for level one or two sterilization.
Here is the flow chart table link: www.americanaquariumproducts.com/AquariumUVSterilization.html#flowtable
Great question. It's based on real world use of 1000s of these sterilizers. Just like when you purchase a canister filter, the company gives it a certain flow rating, but it's never that flow when the canister gets loaded with media and plumbing. The manufacturer of these simply under rate these sterilizers. There's much more information about this in our article.
www.americanaquariumproducts.com/AquariumUVSterilization.html
@@AmericanAquariumInformation Thank you for the explanation so can I install the Vecton 600 on my 220 gallons reef tank and have a Level 1 or even a level 2 Sterilization ?
You would get high level one close to level 2 if your flow is close to 300 gph. Check the sterilizer playlist, there's much more info in some other videos and in that article.
Did you try the new sun sun HW-3000
The HW-3000 is no different from any other aquarium canister with very poor dwell time. It is a "Category C" Clarifier at best, and likely not even this if purchased with the low output medium pressure UV lamp that comes standard.
Reference: www.americanaquariumproducts.com/AquariumUVSterilization.html
SUNSUN CUP 809 is good
Actually that is incorrect. The Sunsun CUP 809 utilizes low output UV lamp and has poor dwell time (as well as poor lifespan). The Sunsun CUP 809 UV is a Category C UV at best, far from the "best UV". Even the modified AAP CUP 613 sold by "American Aquarium Products" is only a Category B UV, but still vastly better than the Sunsun 809 UV Clarifier
Carl Strohmeyer Thanks for your reply, which one should I get from eBay or Aliexpress or any online shop? Can you please advise? I have a 40 gallon tank
Thanks
@@Wellesly First eBay or Amazon should never be your go to place for premium aquarium equipment for a variety of reasons, including the fact almost all true UV Sterilizers are not available on these platforms.

If you want the very best Category A UV Sterilizer, the AAP/TMV Vecton 200 should be your choice.
www.americanaquariumproducts.com/TMCUVSterilizer.html
If you are looking of an Economy “plug & play” UV that is still at least a Category B, The AAP CUP-13 would be a good choice
