How to take off Miata oil pan NA/NB

- No beating around the bush just straight to the point, everything you need to know to take off a 15+ year old year old oil pan on a Miata. Processes are very similar if not identical between NA/NB models.
Would it be easier to just pull the engine out?
Correction: YOU DONT NEED AN ENGINE HOIST! Although it is more recommended than holding up your engine from the bell housing with a jack.
Check the place where transsmition enters the engine, right there are 2 gaps beetween the block and the oil pan. You could just take a screwdriver, and disconnect the oil pan.
I couldn’t get anything to fit in there and when I did there wasn’t enough leverage.
They have engine braces to hold up engines. You might be surprised how many times a job calls for one. They are under 100 bucks, but some people make their own. Another tip, use a putty knife or old kitchen knife to separate the pan from the windage tray.
Yes & I also didn’t mention that the reason you hold up the trans is because you can Jack up the engine that way. Although you shouldn’t leave it for that long. && I tried it was just bending everything except metal
