      I agree, I am happy PSA solved the problems and is fixing any versions out there. However, it kind of pisses me off that this iteration of the firearm made its way into customers hands as it was. There was clearly more shit wrong with it than an out of spec bolt. It seems like they were cutting corners to meet a deadline and sent a firearm that still wasnt sorted into customers hands. Of course they're taking them back no questions asked. They knew theh fucked up.
      Don't get me wrong I'm a PSA fanboy i own 2 ARs and one of their AKs and all are great guns. I just don't want to see anymore of this shady crap going on. Push the deadline back and sort the gun next time PSA and you wont have to deal with these embarrassing issues!

    Psa has consistently been stepping up their game. They use to sell a lot of junk. Not so much anymore. The past few years all the products i have dealt with mostly parts and accessories have been good quality. They use a lot of military suppliers for their bolts, barrels, and components. Fn makes their premium hamner forged barrels. And i have confirmed that from them and fn. As a working gunsmith i assemble alot of ar15 rifles. I have put together dozens of rifles with parts almost exclusively from psa. With only 1 notable issue. I had a very slightly canted front sight on a barrel, and they replaced it. In my opinion based on my regular experience dealing with them if you do your research you can get some quality products from psa at great prices.

      Not practical without select fire?! *It's a bloody pistol caliber carbine mate! They are useful for putting hits on target out to100 yards reliably, repeatedly and with minimal effort!* Select fire is nice and I am all for repealing the NFA, but not having a "happy switch" is not a case of "weapon is useless" if it's not there.

      @@reignick1133 yes I know, but with riflel calibers available in the same size platform it would be silly to think of them as much more than a fun plinker. If you're looking defensively then there are much better choices that won't over penetrate like a pistol caliber would.

    • @colinmatlock2164
      @colinmatlock2164 5 лет назад +1

      @@Tashin32 it's far easier to be more accurate with a carbine than it is a handgun and you get the lower chance of over penetration than you would with a rifle caliber making them very good close quarters defense platforms. On top of that they are much more practical to use at range than a handgun. Situationally of course there are times when a handgun will be more practical or a rifle caliber will be more practical but these bridge the gap and overlap into both realms and are a better choice than choosing one or the other in plenty of situations. They are far from being just plinking guns by a long shot

    • @Predalien195
      @Predalien195 5 лет назад +2

      @@Tashin32 Pistol calibers often dont over penetrate. This has been shown time after time. Even in say.. an 8 inch barrel or something, you're not likely to have over penetration unless you're running FMJ. If you're using defensive loads, depending on the JHP/JSP design and caliber... you may get LESS penetration than out of your handgun as the increase in velocity causes it to expand sooner which often leads to lower penetration.
      In something like 9mm, this is where 147gr bullets really shine in 8 to 16 inch barrels. They pick up enough velocity to get good penetration and expansion. The whole pistol calibers over penetrating is a bit of a myth on bodies. Now walls and etc... yeah they can get more penetration than some rifle calibers surprisingly as it's been shown that 9mm penetrates deeper than .223 in some cases. However, I can tell you now... if the fear is over penetration from a missed round, a rifle round is going to typically pack more energy after passing through a barrier of sorts. And if you're worried about it going through the target and hitting somebody on the other side... if you do some research into that issue, it pretty much never happens outside of a few people committing suicide with somebody standing right next to them or it goes through their head and hits somebody in the other room. Rarely does that ever kill anybody though.

      The AR gets points for being able to be completely disassembled by the user and tweaked and tuned. The AK-V has welds and rivets. You need a BFH and a press to disassemble it.
      AK-V also has many more proprietary parts. Its not like you can run out and buy a heavier or lighter buffer for it if you feel like tuning it. You also cannot swap a top cover for a standard AK one because the receiver length is shorter.
      The AK wins for having a removable magwell. My AR feeds from glock style mags and nothing else. My AK-V feeds from the scorpion mags and I've also tested it and it'll feed from glock mags. Basically any mag you can fit through that huge ass opening in the receiver you can make yourself a mag adapter for.
      The PSA AR-9 have a dump 1/2x36 thread pitch to help keep people from installing a small muzzle device and trying to shoot 9mm bullet through a 5.56mm hole. The AK-V has a more popular 1/2x28 thread pitch so there's less headaches trying to mount a suppressor.
      AK-V rear sight is not adjustable. Its also built into the hinge, so its not easily replaceable for one that is adjustable. Compared to the AR-9 which actually doesn't even ship with a rear sight. Its up to the user to install one, but pretty much all of them are adjustable.

      @@giantpune Thanks for this post. Because I have have some extra AR parts laying around and was considering purchasing a stripped ar9 lower and completed upper from them. But after hearing the good news about the AKV it would be pretty awesome to get one of these as a conpanion pistol carbine to my GB2 AK which is still running flawlessly over 3000 rounds later.

      Ive had mixed experiences with the AR9 uppers from PSA. I have a 10.5" that has been trouble, but a 16" that has been almost flawless.
      Overall, AR9s are less reliable than a 5.56 platform, in my experience. I've owned/fired a dozen different uppers from various companies chambered in 9mm.
      AR9 uppers are super cheap right now, for anyone looking to pick up one. Buy a dedicated lower for $200 or a magblock kit for a regular lower. Then with an internet search or two you can find decent uppers for less than $150

      @@mattutgetcare I've been looking into the shorter AR9 uppers from psa lately for the most part it seems they run pretty well. I have a bunch of AR parts and turning them into an AR9 would only cost me about $400. So at that price point it's pretty attractive vs a scorpion, mpx ect. I have a keltec sub2k that has been flawless over 1000 rounds or so but i want a smoother shooter that I can mount a red dot to. This AKV looks pretty cool too! I just dont know what to go for.

    I was watching PSA’s newest video on the gun, sounds like the first run had manufactured bolts and receivers that were not to the specs they had sent to the manufacturers and had sent most of those parts back, unfortunately some did make it to the market before they could recall all the parts. They’re handling it very well, apologizing for the bad parts and promising that the re-runs has all correctly manufactured parts, and that anyone who had a malfunctioning piece could send it in and get it replaced free of charge. Really impressed with these guys

    Two Questions:
    With the "MAC Bracket" in place, is the trigger group still serviceable? e.g. ALG and CMC
    Since the charging handle doesn't go back as far, will the Krebs Custom safety work on it?

    This new platform rocks- I dig the little things like the fix on the trigger group - upgraded repair for eliminating bullets and spent casings migrating south into the trigger group - what a frickin nightmare that would be...Mid firefight - needing to cover in place and repair the clearing of the obstruction - not the toughest repair by any stretch - BUT - it’s still probably, at best/luckiest 5 - 15 seconds of mid-firefight repair time you won’t be getting back!
    I love the simplicity of gun tech upgrades that happen when building new projects!
    This gun just looks FUN AS FARK to use - smart piggy-backing the CZ scorpion magazine compatibility - i encourage magazine compatibility gun builds with new and existing upgrade gun builds! That’s seems to be a small trend that I’d lIKe to see grow and flourish!!!
    BE GOOD-

    It's good that they fixed the gun but it is a little concerning to see it run slo-mo. It looks like the carrier is striking the rubber buffer with a fair amount of force.
    Generally it won't be a problem for most people if don't suppress the gun. If you suppress the gun and run a high round count day, i.e. a class or a heavy range day, those polymer/rubber buffers don't hold up to well.
    If that polymer buffer gets shredded or broken during a high round count day it would be interesting to see if the aluminum spacer gets the ever living shit beat out of it. Generally in a property built AK regardless of caliber the recoil spring will stop the bolt carrier from slamming into the rear trunnion and recoil assembly of the gun.
    I hope that this isn't a problem though.
