Knife laws are weird now with modern designs. Manuals can be deployed just as fast or faster than some auto knives. They are dumb too, I live where ANY auto knife and double sided blade is illegal to carry, but legal to own(makes zero sense, I know)

    • @varun009
      @varun009 5 лет назад +3

@@rico76 yeah, used to have the same problem where I live. Couldn't have a spring-assisted action, blade in excess of 6 inches in length with no longer than 3 inches of non-serrated cutting edge. Bought one of those cheap S&W knives at a gun show and filed down the serations. Opened it up and tossed out the spring. A little ballistal and it's better than ever. I don't like to carry expensive knives because if I ever have to use it, I know the cops are gonna take it and never give it back. Happened to a friend who *didn't stab* but held a would-be mugger at knife point till the cops arrived. Don't know which one but it was a $300 cold steel folder.

As a master armorer and weapon designer for 37 years (and disabled veteran with 18 years US Army service), I'm overjoyed that B&T SCW won the contract, and that the US once again has an SMG. as an armorer, I had fired and worked on the M3A1 Grease Gun for 15 years (my service ended 2002). while a suppress M3A1 is very hard to beat (only bolt noise), it's a very heavy weapon with very basic sights, and it has rather large stampings so it's not compact, and typically in the way when you are working. Our two M88's at the time had brackets welded to the hull to carry them so it was the only comfortable time you had with them. was it reliable? very, but it was dated and we were overdue for a replacement. for our crews in the tracks and armored vehicles, this will be a much-needed upgrade because of the size of the B&T SMG. with the stock collapsed, you can stick it out a hatch and fire simple using the viewports to correct your aim while you stay safe. the M4 series is fine for a personal weapon for some crew but an SMG is pretty much purpose-built for most tracked and armored vehicle crews. the B&T SMG is a great design which I have followed for years and it's NEARLY perfect. I would love to test, abuse and review the APC9K. I hope they make a couple changes to the B&T SMG (maybe enhancements is a better term) before they are used in combat. otherwise, it's the best SMG the US has ever had, which is a big statement because I love the Thompson SMG (you can write your name with it) but the B&T SMG can fit in a drop down holster to finally keep your hand free. way to go B&T!

Considering the near-universal role that automatic weapons have in the modern infantry unit, and the Heller v DC decision saying that the Second Amendment is for the general ownership of weapons like those used by an infantry unit, does that not mean that the Supreme Court has already laid the groundwork for the repeal of the NFA? It seems to be the logical conclusion that the type of arms employed by the general Infantry in every modern armed force around the globe are specifically what the Second Amendment protects. In the modern era, that weapon is the automatic firearm. Aside from sidearms, nearly every firearm the Infantry of the globe employ are at least capable of automatic fire and rapid reloading.
Fully automatic capability has become ubiquitous and standard, and is therefore protected by the Second Amendment by all metrics ever laid down by the Supreme Court.
Imagine the screeching when we declare that, yes, the Second Amendment does in fact protect our right to own machine guns of all types.
Imagine the screeching when we demand to own newly developed electromagnetic rifles capable of firing projectiles at hypersonic velocities. That's only a matter of a few decades away at this point.
Isn't a written declaration of principles fun?

I think this is a sweet SMG and by all accounts, B&Ts build quality and engineering surpass even H&Ks. So great from the perspective of “another tool in the tool box” and a superb one at that but...
    1. Despite all of the publicity and fanfare, this SMG contract is so small it is almost nonexistent, less than a blip on the scope of one branch’s small arms procurement. A few thousand copies for military PSD teams, themselves of often questioned utility.
    2. SEALs, SF, and Force have all had various iterations of MP5s in their arsenals for decades. Sure most units over the past 20 years have primarily switched to M4/Mk18 for most uses but the guns should still be there. I worked with Army PSD teams in Afghanistan who also carried MP5s. The SMG was not a completely abandoned concept, just that it’s utility was limited to a few niche purposes. The B&T SMG will see far more limited issuance than the MP5 and there will still be more MP5s DOD wide than the B&T SMG after this procurement vehicle is fully executed.
    3. While it’s still nice to see DoD procuring top-quality guns, it’s troubling from the perspective of a tax payer that the Army decided to run new trials and issue purchase orders for a brand new SMG for small, non-special-operations and very non-critical units while the existing inventory of MP5s is left sitting in depot level armories completely forgotten and collecting rust.
Is this SMG better than an MP5? Probably, at least from everything I’ve seen so far. Are the units that will be using it at a level of proficiency or subject to a mission profile that warrants having the avant guard of SMG design? Operationally, would they know the difference? No, I don’t think they will so why buy a new SMG for this limited, non-critical purpose instead of dusting off existing MP5s.
    4. This SMG is designed for a very limited purpose, even more so than a Mk18 is utilized PDW/CQB/VBSS so this it can’t really be compared to something in that category. The Mk18 still packs a pretty good punch at CQB ranges while giving effects on an area target (buying time to disengage) past 200m. The benefit to this or an MP5k/PDW is that they can be easily concealed under a 5.11 vest with the short mags. For those that have never done it, it’s not that people don’t know you’re armed, but for political purposes (especially in front of the media) you can not be overtly armed. The downside is that full auto, even out of a controllable SMG, is not conducive to minimizing collateral damage in an environment almost certainly occupied by a large number of civilian non-combatants.
Long story short, phenomenal SMG but I really can’t find a good reason for why the Army bought it.

      Matt Jones
Springs wear out with use, so compression and expansion cycles, meaning that the springs in loaded mags that sit around are going to be fine.
Feed lips are a little different. As long as the stress in the lips from the rounds being pushed up and out of the magazine is below the yield stress of the lip material, the lips are fine. For aluminum mag lips, I would like to see this tested as well, but for lancer mags’ steel feed lips, there are no issues there. For pmag type polymer lips, the polymer behaves differently than metal and, instead of yielding and bending out of shape, they crack when they fail, so it is easy to tell when pmags should be retired.

Hey bro, since you've have a GHM9 for awhile now. Have you wished you'd gone with the APC9? I am debating which one currently. I'd love the new APC10MM that's coming out but more money an ammo 3x the price. Yet with the 10mm you could fight an hold your own if shtf in most cases. Appreciate your thoughts if you'd like to comment? I'd be willing to sell most of my guns an go with the 9mm n 10mm. 10mm magazines are 100 bucks, wow. I don't have glock magazines otherthan my 40 compact. Thanks. Ty
