Hey Fluff can you make a video about the difference between two notes torpedo studio, live and captor...

  • @swmorgan515

This really is just a demo of the built-in analog cab simulation, which IMO is really not the selling point / use case for this device. The real purpose for this is as a load box to send your amp/power amp signal into a DAW and load in a cab IR either via the Two Notes software or other IR loader.

    • @216trixie

The cab simulation is exactly why I use this product. For live performance.

I have a 16ohm version. It's absolutely amazing, but I think it could benefit from a volume knob for the attenuator. Aside from that, I'm dependent on it and I love it.

I have used so many different attenuators/load boxes/simulators, and nothing compares to what Two Notes has put out. Just a whole other level of quality. You truly get what you pay for when it comes to their products.

I'd like to hear it side by side with cabclone, but BOTH with dry out and IRs. Everybody knows that the built in CC analog sim sucks, but very few people out there demoed it with IRs. I have it and it's not bad at all. Of course if this Captor works better, I'm ready to get rid of the CC:)

    • @TwoNotestv
      @TwoNotestv 7 лет назад +19

Cabclone is a well built product. The main difference would be that the Cabclone uses a resistive load and Captor a reactive one. Resistive tends to sound warmer and fuzzier, some amps don't like too much that type of load which impedance is in fact quite different from a real speaker cabinet. Reactive is closer to the real deal.
Both are valid options in a studio environment.

  • @jettsom

The funny thing is that you don't need it at all with this amp. The TC-50 has a resistive load built-in (speaker off switch). You can then use the raw signal (line out) from the amp with any IR loader in your DAW like torpedo wall of sound which is free.

Built in analogue cabinet simulation isn't too bad but wasn't expecting much anyway. Thankfully it seems like it meets expectations when recording the raw amp signal. Been waiting for this to come out for months now! Definitely be picking one up when I can afford to get a proper amp (5150iii or Misha's Invective.120).

I I just got one in the mail. I have a Laney IRT Studio for silent recording without spending Kemper kind of money. Crunch sound is quite good and it boosts nicely into saturation for lead. Very similar tone to my Suhr Riot pedal, but nicer I think. Down side is that in silent mode the amp cuts down to 1 watt from 15 watts. That means the clean channel has very little headroom and does not take the boost very well. I am hoping the Captor helps with that, plus it lets me try other amps into my interface and DAW. That said, I have been finding that I prefer to use Le Pou for practice, because it is not putting wear and tear on amps.

So in my little world, I've found a guitar cabinet sim which I use for every type of guitar that I record. I prefer to think of the cab sim as my preferred microphone setup...
I've got an AFX currently, but I've narrowed down the amps I use on the AFX to a few, so I've been considering buying those amps and doing silent recording with the cabinet sim which I love.
One of those amps is a Bogner Uberschall...which is 120 watts. However, I don't run it at full volume so I doubt it would be using the full 120 watts. Would that be safe to plug in to this or would that be somewhat explosive?

I bought this and just tested it out and am frankly disappointed and confused. I bought it for the attenuation, but I wanted to atleast be able to turn my Recto-Verb 50 up just halfway and get a good volume. It feels like it barely decreased the volume much at all. There will even be loud scratching sounds should I even slide my fingers down the strings and that was after I lowered the volume below halfway as I had hoped.
What is going on? Am I just using this wrong? Does anyone know of a good forum for this question? I am hoping it is just my ignorance of the hardware and I can figure out how to properly attenuate with it, otherwise my next best bet is to likely look for a more expensive option when I'd really rather not

This Attenuator only goed up to 100W. Will I be pushing it or my amp to hard if I use it on a 100W amp?

    • @KevinSparksatx

It won't damage the Captor. The only side effect is that you'll be working your tubes harder if the amp's MV is cranked. Not a big deal, but the tubes will have to replaced sooner

Great video, thank you. How much volume can you remove with this Captor? 20db does not sound like much?

      The volume drop is substantial.

So if I use the XLR cab sim out to record, I don't need a cab, right? Also is the -20dB attenuation adjustable, and can I use it in conjunction with the cab sim? I plan to go Amp > Captor > Cab for casual jamming and use the XLR out for recording while the cab is still plugged in, is it possible?
Sorry if the questions seem silly, there is a lot to process here as this unit does so many things I'm not used to working with.

The -20dB attenuation is a -20dB attenuation. Not adjustable.

How would this compare to the Mesa CabClone? Because I've heard that the CC is not that good and this one seems to sound decent !

sebastien pelletier this brand is all about cabinet modeling/simulation compared to mesa which is an amp company (incredible amps). Two notes specializes in this basically.

I’ve got a 150w triple rec. can I still use one of these since it’s rated for 100w or am I screwed? Thanks guys

You'll be fine just don't have it full blast, you won't anyway as it will be clipped as hell.

Dado Simic you could but just don’t turn the amp all the way up.

What's the difference between the ohm choices? I'm using an EVH 5150 III. Thank you!!

    • @justinm9931
      @justinm9931 3 года назад +1

A lot of amps have a fixed output impedance, meaning you would need to match up whatever version of the captor you’re going to buy with the corresponding ohm impedance of your amp.
I looked up your EVH 5150 III and it said the impedance was 4, 8, or 16 ohms, so I’m guessing you have an impedance selector that lets you choose what your head is putting out, so I guess for you it wouldn’t matter which version you pick, since you’ll just be able to match your head output up with whatever captor you’d buy.
I know the Two Notes website has a few articles over matching impedance, and they even go into detail about what effects it has if the impedance of the two isn’t the same. If I remember right, a lower ohm captor with a head with a higher ohm output results in less overall attenuation, where as a higher ohm captor on a head with lower ohm output results in a higher attenuation.
DISCLAIMER: I am by no means an expert (on anything), I’ve just read up a bunch on the articles on two notes’ website and think I have a decent enough understanding.
Hope I explained things well enough

If you plan on using the unit between the amp and a speaker cabinet, you need to match the captor to the cabinet's impedance. Else you won't be able to use both together!

Can I use third-party IRs with the captor through the wall of sound software?
