    Nice knowledge. A little frightening to see how good you made the 9v amp sound, but also enlightening for those of us who really do want to use a tube amp and get the best sound for recording or pa without the headaches. Cool work.

    Just a note when you blend cabinets and mic signals, make sure to align phases of the recorded audio to prevent unwanted frequency cancellations. You can do this with a plug-in, or zoom in and slide the captor tracks until they line up with the Mic'ed signal.

    I've been using preamps & the Torpedo CAB for years. The versatility, quietness when necessary & not carrying 100s of lbs convinced me.
    I do miss the rumble from a 4x12 tho. 😁

    I haven't been mic'ing amps since I got into using IRs. Since I record in apartments or shared living space I'm restricted on my options. Having said that, I don't miss it at all. Now the Two Notes allows for blended mics and the Captor X has a dry out, I pretty much have all the tools needed to achieve the same results.

    ive been running stereo out and sending one side into my UAD Ocean Wave studio plugin. Creates this really wide, super real and dimensional sound. Honestly its closer to the sound I hear in my head when trying to capture an amp in a room than any mic setup Ive used at home. That second sound example you showed is really close to the results I achieved

    Hi Jay, Thanks so much for giving these clean clear examples that allows us to hear how the amps/mics etc sound; so many of the examples on YT have distortion and other effects added and quite frankly for me, the sound of the captor gets lost or buried in the "mush" - Good examples and good playing my friend.

Am I being correct assuming that it is like putting two mics near cabinet (or different cabinets, depending on particular IR)? For instance, if I choose the same IR for A and B, it is like exact same cabinet and mic mixed into one audio stream?

    Thank you for this great video. This will be very helpfu! I just bought a Two Notes Torpedo because I could never get a real tube amp tone with my Helix Native plugin, but I have a question; I would like to run the amp into my Logic Pro DAW and through Helix so that I can use the great many Helix effects, but not its amps. Can you tell me how you are doing this? Do you just create a patch with no amp of cabs? Not sure how to approach this.

    • @JayLeonardJ
      @JayLeonardJ  3 года назад

      The Captor X may work the best. Send guitar to the Helix and then the Helix to the Amp. Connect Captor X to the Speaker out of your amp. Send the line out of the Captor X back to the Helix and you can even put some post effects from the Helix in there as well! Look up on some articles on the 4 Cable Method and hopefully that would get you on the right track!
      Good luck.

    Hi Paul,
    I hope you can help me.
    I often follow you and I am an Italian guitarist from Venice.
    I'm writing to ask you for advice on Toneking Ironman II mini: I have a Fender Deluxe Reverb RI that I love but it's too loud and I can't get it to breakup at low volumes. I am considering getting an attenuator and I have seen the Toneking. I'm undecided: the Torpedo Captor X has many useful features but I'm afraid that the attenuation section is more limited and less qualitative than Toneking. What would you advise me?
    My goal is to be able to use the fender at vol 4/5 to make my drives work well, but the features of the torpedo could also be very useful.
    Obviously if you confirm that the torpedo is as good as an attenuator as much as the toneking, I will take the torpedo. Thanks, I hope you can help me.

    • @JayLeonardJ
      @JayLeonardJ  2 года назад

      To be honest, the Tone King is a better attenuator in terms of keeping the hi end response intact. Since you already have an attenuator. Why don't you check out the CAB M. You can use it in combination with your Tone King and have the best of both worlds :)

  • @Thesummerinstinct

    Just got one but can't play my Deluxe Reverb and even worse my 57 Deluxe at higher volumes without red-light clipping on the Captor. The distortion on the 57 is a disappointment. I'm thinking the Captor is made for amps with a lot more headroom than I have in my two Fenders.

    • @JayLeonardJ
      @JayLeonardJ  3 года назад

      It definitely should handle those amps without any problem: I have pushed these things with my cranked 50 watters without it breaking a sweat. Maybe the clipping is maybe coming from your output and not your input. Try lowering the "OUT LEVEL" knob on the CAB X. If the red lighting goes away, then it is working fine with your amp and you are just pushing it too much volume out of the CAB-X
      If it is still red -lighting with the "OUT LEVEL" low and the "IN LEVEL" switched to low you may have a bad box. I'm sure the team at Two Notes can help you with that if that is the case, cause you should definitely not be clipping it with a Deluxe.

    • @petermorgan2068
      @petermorgan2068 3 года назад

      @@JayLeonardJ Thanks for your input, JLJ. I played around with the levels through my headphones and found that all was fine with Low Output engaged but I can't use the High Output setting at any level without the red light coming on. The thing is there is more clarity in the signal with the High engaged, and since my amps are relatively low wattage, I don't get why they clip so easily. I will write to TN.

    • @nvinceable17
      @nvinceable17 4 месяца назад

      @@davewalls2160 The "Speaker In" on the Captor X is expecting to see the output of a power amp. You couldn't directly plug a preamp pedal into the Captor X. You either need to run the preamp pedal into a standalone power amp and run that into the Captor X, or run the preamp pedal into the loop of an amp and take the amp's power amp output into the Captor X.
