    This is typical, I saved up ages to buy a two notes torpedo live, and the day I get it this thing comes out that's way cheaper and does practically the same thing and is more suited for my purpose.
    Fuck me.

      i dont think the wall of sound and built in cab sim sounds as good as torpedo live or studio, i just watched another video where the guy A and B'd them, studio sounded way better, you still have an awesome product, it doesnt make sense at all for two notes to totally undercut them selves by offering something at a 5th of the price of what their 1500$ product does .

    That's what I call perfect timing, Bea! I just wondered this morning, when I might find some demonstration of the Captor, since I'm considering buying one as soon as I get myself a Kraken. And as if you had heard my thoughts: BOOM! Video is up, haha :-D
    Thanks for the great demonstration \m/

    You are a gorgeous guitarist. In addition to having an excellent technique you also have what distinguishes a good guitarist from an excellent one, the heart. Even when you play the simplest chords or the quieter parts of a solo, your playing gets to the heart. Your video convinced me to buy the Captor to use it with my Statocaster, it seems a great product. Thank you

    Two observations:
    1) 1:38 The WoS plugin is *NOT* free (30-day free evaluation, and after that you have to buy at least one of their virtual cabs)
    2) The speaker sim is *not* impulse-based, it's analog circuitry.

      the fast part is pretty straight forward. the pattern basically, pick a string. and a fret. so lets say, high E string 12th fret. so itd go 12, 11 hammer on 12 pull off to 11 and then pick 9th fret. or pull off. your choice. and thats the pattern. just move it around.

    Just one correction, Bea - it's not a built-in impulse response, it's an analogue sim (basically a set of filters, like the Red Box).

    • @iamkennymartin
      @iamkennymartin 7 лет назад

      digiscream but in this case, unlike the Redbox, it handles the load without a thru, right? On a Redbox you blow your amp head if you don't still have something thru to handle the load.

    • @marcsee4072
      @marcsee4072 7 лет назад +1

      Kenny Martin not the point - red box has some variations this has guitar and bass. Red box doesn't have no-cab options. Love this and can't wait to get it

    • @digiscream
      @digiscream 7 лет назад +8

      Actually, you've both spectacularly missed my point. An analogue cab sim - like this *has* and like the Redbox *is* - has absolutely nothing in common with an impulse response. An impulse response is not an analogue cab sim, and an analogue cab sim is not an impulse response. Bea says that the Captor has a built-in impulse response, which it doesn't - even Two Notes' own product page says that it's not.

    • @TwoNotestv
      @TwoNotestv 7 лет назад +5

      That is correct: Captor is 100% analog, IR technology is digital. What's noticeable in Captor compared so some other amp DIs such as the famous Redbox is the ability to load your amp, in other way silent playing without the need for a cabinet.

    • @digiscream
      @digiscream 7 лет назад

      Thanks, TwoNotesTV, and yes - I wasn't trying to imply that the Captor is equivalent to the Redbox at all. Just a factual correction for a slip of the tongue in the video which might mislead people :)

    Definitely something I'm looking seriously at, been waiting for this since it was announced in January. But nobody so far seems to have addressed what the 20dB attenuator sounds like - some attenuators are great, some are dreadful. That's something that would be really useful to me, living in a small apartment. I currently use a Palmer, but it maxes out at 15dB, and that can still be too loud sometimes.

  • @aquilarossa5191
    @aquilarossa5191 5 лет назад

    I just bought one on Reverb. I live in a CBD apartment in Auckland, so can't use my amp without having people banging on the walls etc. I have a Laney IRT Studio for silent recording and jamming through Two Notes WOS in my DAW and then out of little studio monitors. It sounds good and using the built in boost with the amp overdriven yields a lead tone very much like my Suhr Riot pedal, but better. Down side is the amp is restricted to 1 watt instead of 15 watts when in silent mode. That means the clean channel has very little headroom and does not take boost well. I am hoping the Captor solves this because it will allow the amp to run at full power.
    I am also hoping it sounds better than running the Le Pou Brit amp sim into WOS, because I do not like putting wear and tear on my amp just for noodling -- so the tone has to be that much better to justify doing it.
    I have tried so many things for the volume problem. First was a Palmer Speaker sim. Then a Dr Z Air Brake. My 1959RR blew up, so I replaced it with an old mid 80s JCM800 1987 model. But I had sold the Airbrake and could not use it here. Then I tried modelling with a POD HD500X. I did not like the POD, so tried a a Tech 21 Fly Rig followed by more modelling using GuitarRig, but the Laney IRT Studio is better than them all for getting a realistic amp tone into DAW in silent mode, apart from that clean channel headroom issue.
    Spending over $3K NZD for a Kemper or AxeFX is too rich for me, but all the money I spent trying to get a decent silent recording solution I could have had one I guess. I am pretty confident the Captor is going to work well with WOS and the Laney.
    Next mission is to build some vintage amp clones from kits to run with it, but I best cut my teeth doing pedal builds first. I already have a few parts and a Trinity Amp turret board for a 18 watt vintage Marshall build. I'd quite like to have something like a Deluxe Reverb clone too and maybe even a Vox. A Captor can run any amp as long as the impedance matches (I got the 8 ohm version). I used to only like tones like my favourite Maiden, Priest, Sabbath, Ozzy records etc. But now I have grown the fv

  • @Spidouz
    @Spidouz 7 лет назад +1

    8:41 I would to have a Power attenuation knob to adjust it from 0 to 100%. By doing so, it would be a like adding a "master volume" to any amp, and therefore be able to crank any 100W amp to a very low bedroom volume. I know there's a fixed -20db, but wouldn't be cool if we could adjust it from 0db to -∞ db? Even on stage, it would allow to keep a quiet stage even with a cranked amp :)

    • @Spidouz
      @Spidouz 7 лет назад +1

      Even a 10 positions selector would be ok to have some kind of scale such -3db, -6db, -10db, -15db, -20db, -25db, -30db, -40db, -50db, -70db...

    • @daviddraper5166
      @daviddraper5166 7 лет назад

      Then buy a torpedo reload

    • @Spidouz
      @Spidouz 7 лет назад

      Actually, that's exactly what I dislike from Two Notes... They have multiple products from Torpedo Reload, Live, Studio, and Captor... but you can't just get a product that would cover what we need. They all lack of some features that the other might have. The Studio doesn't have the whole reamping level match system such the Reload. The reload doesn't have the whole onboard IR Cab, the Live doesn't have dual IR such the studio and reamping level match such the Reload, and so on and so on.
      I know, they try to have multiple products to push consumer to buy multiple products. But to me, that's dumb. I would prefer a Torpedo Studio mk2 that would have both loadbox that can be adjust, a reamping system with level match, and a power input and dual IR Cab. Then it would be useful and could be connected to be use for all usages and I wouldn't need to buy multiple products I would need to connect/reconnect depending what I want to do. Because even if you buy a Torpedo Reload and a Torpedo Live/Studio, you won't be able to use both in the same time.
      That's exactly why I think it's dumb... even thought I love what Two Notes do and think it's one of the best product that happens in the Guitar industry for the last decade. I'd just love them to come with a product that would be more mature and more "KISS" (Keep It Stupid Simple).
      My 2¢

    • @TwoNotestv
      @TwoNotestv 7 лет назад

      Hi Phil, it's definitely possible to use several units at the same time, as they all have a THRU output that lets you connect them in cascade. ;)
      The reason why we don't have that all-in-one unit is very simple: very little people would put 3KUSD for that, and people already complain about some extra features they don't need, like "I don't want to have to pay for a DI or Reamp if I want a good attenuator (Reload)".
      Of you think abut it from the common user point of view, it would actually be the opposite of a KISS product. ;)

    • @Spidouz
      @Spidouz 7 лет назад

      Well... it depends what kind of KISS you considering. Personally, not having multiple units going back and forth with Thru signals and plug and unplug and replug stuff depending if I need a loadbox or a cab, or just an attenuator, or maybe both, etc... not using multiple audio I/O to keep the "two notes stuff" to my audio interface, or having to change my DAW template depending what I want, etc... it's what I mean by Keeping it "simple". Just having one product that "does it all", is what I think would be a "simple message".
      Having a rig, I plug my guitar in and everything else stays in place and I have all options I want and need and it's "just working" (less time doing geek/tech stuff, more time doing music).
      Or maybe, I just missed how we could easily make them work all together, and in that case, it would be worth to make some wiring diagrams and video on your website to help consumers on that part and explain the benefit of it (and in the mean time, help yourself to sell more products too, I'm just sayin')
      But it would probably cost more and I can see how it could be a problem to make it in production. Personally, if I look at a Mesa 4x12 cab, a pair of mic (SM57, Shure KSM313) and some decent preamp... it will be easily $3k. So having a Torpedo Studio mk2 that would do the same and would include the features listed above... and would not only provide the sound of a Mesa 4x12 Cab, but then would allow me to have 150+ Cab with more mic, preamp, tubes and all features Two Notes have... yeah, that would be worth it.
      Not cheap, that's for sure, but WORTH it and worth to invest in this kind of gear that would probably last a long time since I don't see us getting rid of "Cabs" anytime soon :)
      But yeah, I don't think it's really how most people think lately and I'm probably just part of a very small percentage and probably "too niche" to make it happen. You're surely right about that and I can understand that... it's just too bad.
      Note: It doesn't mean I think Two Notes products are bad, NOT AT ALL...
      as already mentioned, I think this is one of the best thing that happen in the guitar industry the last decade (just like another French invention such the Keyztone pickups will be the next best thing for the next 10 years... I think). I already told it to Guillaume during a MusikMesse (hi to him btw).
      So don't take this long comment as a "rant against Two Notes" because it is not. It's just that I care about it and try to make it better by just giving my 2¢ opinion. If I wouldn't care, I would just ignore it and wouldn't spend time to even comment or comment back to explain myself.
      I have no doubt you surely understand it that way, but I prefer to mention it for other viewers to not mistake my comments and misinterpret them.
      My 2¢

    This may be a dumb question, but I'll throw it out there anyway. So I recently got a Mesa mark 5, but I typically play in an environment where cabinets are not welcome and wanting everything direct. I am very heavily looking at this torpedo captor as I tried the Mesa cab clone and it was absolute garbage. What I'm wondering is, if I use impulse responses, can I use this in tandem with a torpedo cab and load wall of sound settings and to the torpedo cab so that I have completely customize obal I ours and setups? And pretty much use the kept or as a loebach's only? Or will the captor take and store settings from wall of sound?

    Hi, what speaker cable are using coming out of your "speaker out" on the head unit? It's huge! Like the size of a DELL server power cable. I've just been using a Mogami speaker cable. I'd love to hear the difference, if you wouldn't mind pointing me in the right direction of the cable you are using. Thanks in advance and keep up the great work! :-)

    Thank you so much I really need a box like this for silent recording my Vox amp. I have a question. I always record di tracks and then reamping them back to my Cubase with a radial reamp box. It’s always very hard to make a great sound out of this without disturbing my neighbors. So can I use the torpedo after the reamp box to capture the raw signal of my amp and then use the torpedo’s software to further tune the sound? Thank you 😊

    Hey Rabea! Love the videos! Just a quick question. I have a Marshall DSL100H that has one 16 ohm output for one cab and two 8 ohm outputs for two cabs as well as a 1982 Marshall JCM800 2004 that is 8 ohms for a single cab or 4 ohms for two cabs. My question is could i use the captor 8 for use with both amps or would i have to get a captor 16 and a captor 8 in order to accomodate the different ohm ratings

    Hey Rabea. Thank you for great video! I am thinking of buying captor for my engl fireball 60 head, however I am concerned about latency. Would be there any noticeable latency during playing if I would use Wall of sounds in reaper for impulse responses? I don't want to use analog emulation which captor have and I worry that I would have to buy C.A.B. or Mooer Radar to be able to record and practice without latency. Thank you for your reply!

    Hi Rabea please tell me (as im relatively new to the studio equipment) i have a Fender Super Champ X2, i have a small child and cannot play as much as i want during the day. Can the jack output of captor 8 work with normal guitar jack cable straight to guitar in of POD HD500x (to use reverbs&delays etc), and then to the computer with wall of sound? Or is this some "balanced" out and have to go straight in to audio interface with balanced inputs?

    Is this a reactive load? I'm between this and the suhr reactive, I already have the two notes C.A.B so the feel of the cab sim/amp is most important for me, anyone chime on how this feels to play through ? Thanks

    • @digiscream
      @digiscream 7 лет назад

      Yes, it's a reactive load. They're usually designed around the impedance curve of a V30 (since it's a good average response curve), but I have to caveat this with the fact that I haven't seen the Captor's curve to compare.

    Is there a way on the Captor (or Torpedo) to load an IR Cab and then run it through a FRFR cab? If so, how close does it gets from the Cab that is emulated? I know for a recording with a mic setup, etc... it's really close and "good enough" (at least for me). But what about the "sound in the room" and "feel of the cab"?
    It seems like it would be the next logical step. Instead of carrying different cabs, just carry a FRFR cabs that could reproduce the sound and feel of different cab by using IR Cab, activate/deactivate some internal filters and/or speakers to reproduce it as close as possible.
    Any thoughts?

    • @TwoNotestv
      @TwoNotestv 7 лет назад

      Hi Phil, any digital Torpedo can do that (Live and Studio, C.A.B. does not have the loadbox part).
      Your "next step" is what we advertise for for the last 10 years. ^^
      Captor is 100% analog, so you are stuck with the onboard analog speakersim, but with some extra money adding a Torpedo C.A.B. will do the trick.

    • @Spidouz
      @Spidouz 7 лет назад

      Yeah, I just wonder the feel of a FRFR cab with IR... I never use it; As said, I have absolutely no doubt about an IR vs a recording setup with a mic, preamp, etc... I used it and compared it and I know IR Cabs close enough from a real cab (at least to my ears).
      So I guess, my question is probably more about FRFR cab ability to mimic a specific Cab sound and feel... because in the end, the IR is still a "limited" capture of the cab sound (one or two mics in a very specific position with a specific preamp, etc...).

    Why get the torpedo live over this? Does it have extra software or?

    • @stefanozurich
      @stefanozurich 6 лет назад +1

      Cycloptic Aether The torpedo live has the wall of sound plugin built in and DI out has the cab emulation incorporated. This has a “dumb” analog speaker simulator that can’t be changed at all in a live scenario.

      Alex Djent hi alex - get the ohm version that your cabinet also is compatible with. That way u can connect thru as well as connect to record. For me 16ohm is good. I can crank amp to DAW and monitor thru 16ohm cabinet

    • @TwoNotestv
      @TwoNotestv 7 лет назад +1

      Actually Marc, when hooking up a cabinet to the THRU output, the internal loadbox is bypassed. In other words, you can have whatever version of the Captor, you just need to make sure the amp output impedance matches the cabinet impedance. );

    • @marcsee4072
      @marcsee4072 7 лет назад +1

      ok thats great. is it the same for the Attenuated output? so technically it is possible to record 3 simultaneous tracks in one hit - Miced Cabinet, dry DI and XLR either of 3 options.

    • @TwoNotestv
      @TwoNotestv 7 лет назад +1

      yes, 3 at once, and you get to decide if you use a speaker sim or not on the XLR out. Remember that you need phantom power to use the XLR out which is active (Line out is passive).

      8 and 16 ohms speaker does not allways sound the same, but I think it is primarily because of the specs of the speakers, not so much the specs of the output transformer,
      so it will probably sound the same if you buy an 8 ohm or a 16 ohm Captor.
