This Is probably my favorite performance of this Song. Much respect to this man, immense Guitar player! The more I watch him playing the more I want to pick my guitar!
I get what people mean when they say "Malmsteen doesn't play with feel", but from what I hear and see. Malmsteen has feel, from the way he utilizes vibrato on the notes he plays, and the faces he makes when he bends. As well as the presence and movements he has on stage really connects with me. Note that this is also coming from me, a guy who has played and listen to almost everyhthing from blues, glam metal, classic rock, funk and more.
It's not that malmsteen doesn't have feel but the feel is very rare most of his solos are just note density for people who aren't interested in becoming shred gods, this being a rare exception with an insane amount of feel in a lot of parts. If you see him playing the "blues" you'll se what I mean, he plays the blues scale at 300 BPM.no point in that. But he is exceptional technically,no doubt.
@Orpheas Malliamanis No they arent the same thing. A book has letters our eyes dont have letters but they can see letters. Letters that are meant to be seen from our eyes to the book. The letters are the grain of the wind with the eyes we have in our heads. What you say?
I've watched this video so many times and it still gives me goosebumps, every note is pure Awesomeness. And what I love is its all improvised on the fly, Yngwie you are the master.
99.9% of the dislikes are from guitar players that can't do this, I don't care what they say their reason is. I guarantee you that if the wanna' bees could do this or do Michael's stuff, they'd do it. And don't tell me that you wouldn't. Is he a bit arrogant? So what! You have to spend endless hours with an instrument to achieve the above. I admire anyone that can sit with a guitar that long and do that sort of playing. I didn't have that sort of desire, so I was a mediocre guitarist my whole life. He's brilliant.
Or maybe they’re from people who genuinely don’t like this style of music. Dislike =/= Jealousy or envy. I can admire the dude’s technique, but I find the music quite distasteful. He plays something legitimately melodically interesting, then ruins it by playing as fast as he can to transition to his next lick. This repeats for 6 minutes. Sorry, not my cup of tea.
No matter how many times I watch this, it blows my mind. His singing vibrato is to die for. He's using low output single coils (stacked to cancel out hum and noise.) with not much distortion. It's in his hands.
Yngwie knows how to make a guitar sing! If only all people can comprehend fast music. Every note matters. That part from 4:00 to 4:24 is something big musicians don't manage to write in a whole career. Look up what guitar stars say about Yngwie.

Never thought I would cry to a Yngwie Malmsteen solo. People who say no soul, should come back and hear it when you get unwarranted hate from the world. The feelings of hatred, anger, humiliation, and pain, this solo is a mix of all of it
I remember my dad had a copy of this video and I would watch it over and over as a kid. My dad got me into playing guitar at thst time and he put this video in the TV and was just like "check this out."
We should all wish to know ourselves as well as Yngwie knows and expresses himself through his music. No one else could've written this because no one else can write _your_ music.
If anything, the guy is underrated. His technique and style was so revolutionary and influential, that his ability as a composer can get overlooked. The studio version of this track is a fucking incredible piece of music, and that's very evident in how it came out in the cover by that amazing Japanese band, with the cute and astonishingly talented violinist. Yngwie is one of the absolute all-time greats.
@jorgerodriguez145 By "they" you mean those of us who understand the music and Yngwie's impact. But unfortunately there are numerous music fans and stupid critics/journalistics who don't get and don't have enough depth to feel and grasp his music and playing. Back in the 80s there was this boring mantra that Yngwie couldn't write good songs; this at the time Trilogy came out, which had a ton of great songs! So you're right, he's not underrated by those whose opinions matter, but he is still underrated more in some wider circles.
Jack Pot It’s a ’simple’ economy picked F#m9 arpeggio from the fifth string in the interval order 1 9 3 5 1 9 3 with some vibrato on the end. Actually one of the easier parts of the song and quite enjoyable to play. A great pattern to know for improvising in other genres aswell. Many people struggle with rolling your ring finger for that 4th interval between the D and G string but there are ways around that. Good luck!
This man is next level, I’m truly speechless, his technicality is beyond Vai and his tapping is beyond Van Haley, the dude is channelling something truly divine
One of the many things to marvel about while watching this is how quickly and how often he changes the pickup position from the 1st to the 5th all throughout the piece.
I think this is the best guitar performance of all history. He was soo in the zone, and this recording was lighting in a bottle. Jason Becker is who i king as best guitar player, but this video makes me question that every time, i watch it.
TO EVERYONE CLAIMING YNGWIE'S "JUST SHREDDING": 1. He's doing way more than just shredding, even in this song. Although he's shredding a lot. 2. Just because he's shredding a lot, doesn't mean he can't play anything else! I personally love to shred, but I do love many other styles as well. Take Gary Moore's soloing for example - his guitar is almost litterally crying some times! 3. "I can play way better than him, because I play with emotion and doing better things than just shred"
When it comes to art, there is a level of refinement so high, that a normal person wouldn’t appreciate the skill, they don’t comprehend how good it is. Show this piece to any nonmetal head, they just say that Malmsteem is fast, they might say that this doesn’t even sound good, then show it to a metal head, they might dig it and appreciate the music complexity, but then show it to a guitarist, he will be in awe! He will understand the skill required to play this masterpiece.
Just sounds like elitist shit to me. I'm a musician, and can appreciate the skill and composition of this, but I feel literally nothing listening to him play.

i think i've watched this at least 1000 times. fukin immortal . jesus thats some good shredding, it will never get old.
I come to watch this once a week just to remind my self how bad i am at guitar
Lmao, I thought I was the only one 😝
dont forget that Yngwie is a great comp also

Ayyyee it's really all about how good your amp is and how fast you can decide the next pick sweep!
From 4:01 and on I get goosebumps it just sounds so good
Yeah 😆😆
It does, can only describe it as beautiful.
and those pedal bends!
indeed....infakindeed!
melodic neoclassical shredding
how can people say his playing is emotionless? I disagree, he's not just a mindless shredder, his touch is super recognizable and unique, the articulation is never boring, he's not just blindly going up and down scales. His bendings and vibratos are iconic. Don't get me wrong, there are mindless shredders, but I think he's not one of them. His solos aren't mindless shredding, just rock n roll on steroids.
He so is. Just another 80's bach n' roller. They all sounded pretty much the same. He is fast and technically skilled nobody can doubt but there are few adults that want to listen to him for very long.
@Troll Bot People who don't accept criticism of people they admire are soft and must resort to insults to get their point across.
The emotions are in the music.
@@PlanktoniusRex considering that the average iq in the world is 105, your comment doesn't make these "few adults" look like inferiors, but the opposite to that...

This Is probably my favorite performance of this Song. Much respect to this man, immense Guitar player! The more I watch him playing the more I want to pick my guitar!
Definately!
Freaking incredible! This man's talent is truly a gift from God.

Every good guitar player I ever knew was cocky. If a guy is not you probably don't want to play with him.
I read metalcore instead of mediocre and the ideea is that the statement sill made sense lmao
Man, 99.9% of the guitar players can't do this.
I started with blues, now i play van halen. From a real guitar player, this guy is a sub par talent
Or maybe they’re from people who genuinely don’t like this style of music. Dislike =/=
Jealousy or envy.
It's in his hands.
yeah me too. it gives liberation the supporting effects making it heard much clearly from the roots.( the sensation of his fingers).
He actually uses a ton of gain.. his overdrive pedal is with level and gain in 10. but still, it's obviously in his hands.

If only all people can comprehend fast music. Every note matters. That part from 4:00 to 4:24 is something big musicians don't manage to write in a whole career. Look up what guitar stars say about Yngwie.

Underrated? What are you talking about. They all know he Is the GOAT.
So you're right, he's not underrated by those whose opinions matter, but he is still underrated more in some wider circles.
this is one of the better versions Ive heard him play....fantastic !
O que mais me impressiona é que sua mão direita quase nem se mexe. Esses vibratos e bends beirão a perfeição!
2:20 u can't tell me this isn't one of the nuttiest little lick/riffs ever
Jack Pot It’s a ’simple’ economy picked F#m9 arpeggio from the fifth string in the interval order 1 9 3 5 1 9 3 with some vibrato on the end. Actually one of the easier parts of the song and quite enjoyable to play. A great pattern to know for improvising in other genres aswell. Many people struggle with rolling your ring finger for that 4th interval between the D and G string but there are ways around that. Good luck!
The first time I saw this, I missed where he switched pickups and thought, "why did his tone change?"
@Qué Mira Sapo It could've been in Rime of the ancient mariner
Legendary melodies and riffs.
Also to mention how versatile the form factor of Stratocaster is for the wide range of music.

TO EVERYONE CLAIMING YNGWIE'S "JUST SHREDDING":
@George Lynch He said 'end of conversation'! This conversation has ended!
