    Shortly after the release of the excellent Note Air 3C, here comes yet another new device from Boox, but this time, its release was kind of low key and underplayed. Why is that? Well, let's check it out and see what can we expect from the Note Air 3, the latest monochromatic 10.3" Android 12 tablet that doesn't have BSR technology.
    Thank you for watching and if you liked the video, like and subscribe :)

    I returned my Remarkable 2 after 5 days and purchased the Note Air 3. My desire was a paper-white display for note taking and e-reading. I could not be any happier. The battery life is outstanding, readability is fantastic, note taking is natural and every bit as good as the Remarkable 2. I have $270 in my pocket after the return. (I also bought the remarkable leather case that went back. Sadly, the Remarkable is lacking in every capability.

    Just ordered! Battery life, screen contrast for closest to paper look, and writing feel are the most important things to me. I lean toward having a magic notebook, not a notebook-like tablet, so worrying about battery life and things kind of ruin the magic part for me. The you said that sealed the deal for me was that the writing feel is really good. I’ve been using the MDO on my iPad Mini 6 (cropped the left and right sides to help the tiny screen a little), so looking forward to bringing it over to this device.

      I ordered it yesterday and I'm both ecstatic and nervous. How are getting along with your device so far?

    • @jivinhipcat
      @jivinhipcat 5 месяцев назад +2

      I’m still getting used to it. Such a high quality look and feel, that it makes me WANT to use it. I’m pretty new to this kind of device and style of OS, so it’s a bit slow to get into. I mean, that’s just on my side as I tell my brain that this is not a Mac/PC/iPad/Other device. I’m still learning how I want to use it best for me, and there are some small annoyances to go along with all that. Like with the MDO. Using it with the Neo Reader (I think that’s the app) is great, but it is good to watch the Boox setup video for that to adjust all the settings. But I don’t know if I want those settings to be used on all other files in the Neo Reader. Some small things here and there are a little off too, at least for the newcomer. There are 2 floating toolbars in the Neo Reader. I don’t know why I need to toggle between 2 to get to the eraser. I’d rather just have 1 so I have less taps and more consistency between it and the Notes app. More consistency would be good in other ways like the AI between Notes and Neo Reader. So, there are several of these new-device kinds of minor frustrations, but I think that is always the case with anything new. The writing feel is great. At first I was very concerned about the writing. Everything was input slightly above the stylus tip where I thought it should be. I’m happy to say that the calibration feature in settings works perfectly and is easy to use. In a few taps and seconds all is well. This may be something impossible to calibrate perfectly for each individual person as I bet we perceive things slightly differently for whatever reason. I don’t notice anything off about 227dpi, and I’m holding it up to my eye now to try to see something. I do LOVE this thing, and am totally happy with the purchase. I’ll be using it more and more. I have cleared a place on the whiteboard at work for it to sit. The case magnets are strong enough to hold it there securely. So now I write notes there instead of the whiteboard when at my standing desk, and when sleep mode kicks in after 5 minutes I have the clock and calendar page show which looks great. That’s just one maybe unusual use I thought I’d mention outside of the usual :)@@ivvie1452

      @@jivinhipcat thank you so very much for telling ne about everything so well! This gave me so many starting points when setting it up. I watched several videos in it but I already forgot everything I watched. I want to download Milanote where I do my creative writing. Moving everything over to another app would take me a week. And the native notes app I want to use for split screen when taking notes for Korean and Swedish studies. It would be perfect being able to write on my textbooks, finally! And I want a notebook to sketch into like a digital sketchbook. I'm not using for much but it will probably last me a lifetime. My kindle I bought 6-7 years ago still serves me as perfectly as it did on day one! In a way, I'm getting it a sibling 😄

      @bernard2735 - so true - there are always compromises - I love my Nova 3 because it's so portable but when it comes to marking up PDFs and using the split screen function it's just too small. @@honeychurchgipsy6 I just received mine today. Early impressions (moving from an iPad) - very well made, good writing feel, nib brands make a tremendous difference (I prefer the Boox Pen2 Pro over the Staedtler), no noticeable latency, 270 dpi is fine for notes. Yet to try it for pdfs, however. The 10.3 inch is much like a moleskin but feels smaller as you don’t have a facing page.

    What I'd really want to know is if there is any real difference, for the naked eye, between 227 PPI and 300 PPI in terms of sharpness or crispiness. And if not, when can you tell the difference. With the aid of a magnifying glass or similar, would you need a 2X amplification to see any real difference ?, Or it needs to be a 5X ? Or 10x ? ...

    Thank you for you video. I was waiting for it 😊 In latency matter, don’t you think it will be faster than the old Note Air 2 that gave you 3,38 ms. in your D.E.S.T.A test? In a video where you reviewed Note Air 2 I saw you very excited with that type of latency. Is it today, with the came out of Air 3C, a bad latency the one below 4ms? I am thinking to buy this one because it has a long battery life. I think Air 3c cycles will ruin its battery in 2 years of daily use.

    It makes sense to complete the line and in my opinion, we are missing 2 devices yet. Tab Mini, Tab XC
    I would say that they need to align the devices as other companies do and have clear lines that they update every 3 years or so
    From the NA3 I was expecting 300ppi but the rest to be similar to the NA2+ but all updated and I think Boox users would be ok with that. But on that, they felt sort
    The BSR would be an awesome thing when they figure out a way to disable/enable it by the e-ink centre. I think that will be the best play that Boox can do, allowing devices to overpass that. Also as far as strategy, in my opinion, they need to complete the lines and in 2/3 years do all lines update or each year they focus on one line to update. Meanwhile they need to improve the software and make it more user friendly

    After many hours of research and evaluation of alternative options I've decided to buy Air 3. Two reasons battery life, and brighter screen. I read a lot of scientific papers, but I do not find colours to be a deal breaker. It's rather a gimmick for me, or maybe I'm adjust to black and white eink. I must say that I'm a little overwhelmed by the level of complication, but I'm making progress with learning how to use it. 10 inch display is brilliant, and to my relief 227 PPI is definitely enough both to write and to read (epub and pdf). The best part is handwriting recognition, it's amazing (magic), I have a rather "difficult" writing style, yet the Air 3 is capable of dealing with it. That's all I need. To sum up if you read a lot (pdf and epub) makes notes while reading and what to be able to send them to other programs and devices this is a very useful tool. Highly recommend.

    I can say that this is the device I enjoy most, having used the TabUltra C and NoteAir2+ beforehand. It's a wonderfully balanced device and deserves praise for what it is as a whole package. I switched as I came to realize how much I enjoy working on a monochromatic display. I don't look back. Do I care about 227ppi? Not a bit. And wouldn't 300ppi worsen battery life a bit anyhow? Likely so, amateur writing here.
    I think that this device deserves equally much excitement as the color and BSR enabled devices. One only comes to appreciates it fully having used it for a while whilst reflecting on the whole thing, I assume. And good to reiterate - what a great aluminium body, feels awesome as a daily driver.

    I've been shaking excited for this device, and your video, and... yeah, it's not the upgrade I expected after more than a year and a half. I mean, it DOESN'T even have more RAM and storage than the Air 2+. They both (and Air 2) have 4+64.
    Ok, it has the SD card, Android 12, nicer writing feel and... oh, CPU?
    Now I wonder, can you please check in the review if it receives all the features the Note Air 3C does? Because the Air 2+ didn't receive the adjustable split screen for example, and no pen tilt support on Android 11...

    • @julieparadise9694

      On the Boox page it says that both devices of the NA3 line have the flexible split screen (I assume it has to with Android 12, as the new TUC Pro also has this feature).
      @Voja: Thank you for this video! Great and informative as always! -- Could you maybe also include one device with a smoother screen into your comparison? I have the feeling that the grainy/textured screen of the NA3(C) gets some flak for its surface, with some people saying that it makes text appear blurred or less sharp. I don't think so personally, but maybe having a comparison in one of your video to be able to point to as a reference might be helpful. ;-)

    The cost factor causes me to invariably compare the Boox Note series with a similarly or better configured Chromebook. $00-$500 buys a LOT of Chromebook in terms of hardware configuration and particularly with regard to memory and SSD storage. In short, I believe Boox could have delivered a lot better Note Air 3 for the money. This is even more true if you already own the Note Air 2 Plus. I happen to be one of those owners. To be quite honest, I see almost no reason at all to spend the additional $400 to upgrade from my Note Air 2 Plus to the new Note Air 3. Moreover and in this current market, it is silly that Boox cannot prefigure the Note Air 3 and 3C with 8GB of memory and 128GB of storage AND deliver that solution for about the same cost. If Chromebook manufacturers can do it, so can Boox. That this new monochrome version of the Note Air 3 doesn't include 300 dpi is an expected disappointment. My biggest complaint with most e-ink devices is the ghosting problem. While it appears that Boox may have slightly improved this issue over the Note Air 2 Plus, it isn't enough to cause me to drop another $400 to replace that device. Guess I'll continue to use what I've got and wait to see what the Note Air 4 will look like. Thanks for the video. As always, you do a great job putting out useful information.

    • @MyDeepGuide
      @MyDeepGuide  6 месяцев назад

      Actually the writing latency is quite fast (did the DESTA test yesterday), but it is inconsistent, which is the very first time I have actually seen on a device. It kinda gets hung up, waits and then continues writing quickly. Imperceptible to the naked eye, but the speed camera clearly shows it, so I would assume that is the cause for the perceived "slow" latency. Hopefully this is a software issue that they can solve, because if they can, then Note Air 3 is going to have quite fast latency, still not as fast as NA3C, but faster than NA2 and NA2+
