I just watched this video 20 minutes ago, using sidecuts just like you used, the piece that holds the U clip spring broke the hell right off. Back in the garage, grabbed a drill motor, small screw with threads, small drill bit, drilled a hole center of breakage, started a small screw up there and this time it worked. The little fine thread bolt actually felt pretty good and tight so I think it’s going to hold. It was a 8th of an inch bolt counting thread width 1/4” long. That was my quick fix.
Dude! That spring Tip made all the difference in this repair! I had given up! Saw this video and bam it took more time to get my light in place! Thanks for the video! 😎👍🍻
I’ve watched other videos and fought with this spring all day. I found this video and 30 seconds later its fixed. The proper pliers helped a ton. Grazie mille
On my 2018 F150, the spring was still attached, but the black plastic shaft had dropped down. I actually had to disconnect the spring in order to rotate the black shaft and snap it back up into position. Then you’re excellent video showed me how to reconnect the spring and everything is happy again!Thank you!
So glad I read your comment on your first video that everyone was saying they couldn’t get the spring on and then you sent the link to this video. Made my life a whole lot easier. Thank you
After wrestling with the spring for 20 minutes, busting up my knuckles, I rewatched this video and got it in about 60 seconds. On mine, the part the spring is hooked into came out. I had to rotate and push until it realigned then gently hammered it back in. Then I could reattach the spring. Thank you sir.
Amen Everyone! Tucking the circle under the spring and then using lineman pliers to pull it past until it locks into place was CLUTCH!!! I was ready to give up on that spring until I found our video! Literally took me only 15 seconds just like @AndySova said below to complete the repair with the attached spring! Thank you brother for the video and the great explanation on how to reattach the forsaken and stubborn spring!
Wow thank you so much. Had a lot of videos thinking I had to rip apart my truck. With the help of your video 5 min tops even with my crappy pliers. Thank you sir!!!
This worked very well. I caught the part of placing the spring in the grove and using the electrical pliers to rotate the spring in place and real quickly finished.
Thank you for this video, yr 2015 & later! Crawled under my truck and, sure enough, the hinge-pin had descended, popping the spring off. I worked it back up in place & thought I was home-free, just having to re-engage the spring. Well . . . after unexpectedly shearing-off that tiny plastic anchor-nub (and some loud swearing), I went to plan 'B': I drilled a 7/64" hole slightly outside where the factory nub WAS and put in a short fat screw. Screw being mounted just outside the original made engaging spring little easier. DONE! good as new! Thanks
Thank you soooo much for this very helpful video. I could not get the spring back on for the life of me until I followed your instruction. You are my hero!
I worked for 2 hours trying to get this darn spring back into position and was just about to call it quits when I saw your video. Thank you very much, this was so easy, I'm embarrassed I didn't think of this.
2015 F150, hardest part for me was getting up and down onto a creeper, the added inches meant I could reach easily. I got the spring off and was able to turn the pin and push it in. Had to get up, get a light, use your spring method and viola. Thanks.
Great info. If your spring is off but you need to get the plastic piece back in you need to take the spring off first. Worked perfect. Thanks for the video.
Thanks for the great video. I also had to push the vertical cam back into its proper place. Pushed and twisted it back and forth until it found its spot. Your video was followed after that.
great video Ittook me awhile to put that pain in the ass spring back on What I did was wrapped my thumb with painters tape for cushioning then was able to pull down on the end of the spring and slide it in place! total time 2minutes! dont forget to reseat the black pin which holds the door in place! before you replace the spring.
Perfect! My 2018 fuel door has been sticky for a few weeks and today on a 600 mile road trip it broke at a fuel stop. Hoping I can make this simple repair! Seems like a design flaw. Thanks for this!
Thank u so much for this video in 5mins tops had it working again. I thought I had to pull it all out but thanks to your video, I did not have too. God bless!
After a bloody arm a six pack of beer and my engineer daughter getting underneath the truck and calling it quits I saw this video. Funny thing is that I had position the spring the right way but never pulled on it. My truck is a bit higher 4x4. Thanks
Great video, made it look like nothing, I hate going thru my car wash and the blowers always blow open the gas tank, I always had to get off and close it myself 😢 now I watched this video late at night as i lay here I promise in the morning I will try this fix 😂 thanks in advance sir!
That was Awesome! Fixed! I had trouble with the spring before I watched the video, and it slipped right in after I watched it! Thank you very much cause I was gonna take it in and have it fixed at my next service. No need now, Thanks again!!!
As the wife owner of the truck, I try to do everything for the truck and will try this. But that dirt... Dude, my hair, my eyes 👁️👁️ ..... Great video thanks!
Looks simple however i have a side box step!! Do i need to remove the side step assembly as it is to cumbersome to get arm thru the rack assy to get to fuel door spring! Help.
No because it falls out of the stupid groove ford chose to use. It’s not the spring, but the plastic mold that wears out which causes road vibration to slip it out
Another aspect of this failure, which I believe is most common, is not necessarily the spring decoupling, but instead is due to the pin coming out of the assembly. Just enough to allow the pin to decouple from the fuel door internally. When I say the pin, I'm referring to the component that rotates as the fuel door opens/closes. It's located at the other end of the spring. You must make sure that the pin has not fallen out (come loose) of the assembly body and is fully engaged with the fuel door PRIOR to re-engaging the spring.
Dammit! Why didn't I read the comments in the previous video directing me to this one. It took lot of wrestling and neighbor looking over the fence wondering what all the cursing was about to get it done before seeing this.
After 45 minutes of fighting with that spring and about giving up I found this video. I went back out side and it was fixed in 15 seconds.
I tried it with side cuts and that piece that holds the Spring Broke right the hell off !

I know that's right!!! Same here.
Second time I had to pound the picot shaft so the slides erengaged. I was then able to reseat the spring. Thanks
I’ve watched other videos and fought with this spring all day. I found this video and 30 seconds later its fixed. The proper pliers helped a ton. Grazie mille
Thanks!!! Bell Ford in Phx, AZ wanted $75.00 for a new housing & $262.00 for labor! Your the best Grill & Garage!
I did not have the same problem, but your fix got me to mine and I was done within in a minute. Thank you for your video.

I have the same problem as you, did you remove the spring fully?
Bingo, same issue for mine. Between this video and your comment, had it fixed in 5 minutes (with a bit of dust in face!)
So glad I read your comment on your first video that everyone was saying they couldn’t get the spring on and then you sent the link to this video. Made my life a whole lot easier. Thank you

Spent hours on spring then your video and presto fixed!
But it's reoccurring.

Jesus, thank you for this video. Spent way too long dealing with it and this finished in less than 5 minutes.

Fought with the spring for about 90 minutes until I found your video and finished in less than 5 min … thanks
My brother, your awesome! After watching this video it only took me a few minutes. 💪🏽
Thank you very much!! Was thinking to have the dealer fix it since it's under warranty. Thanks to you it saved me all the hassle.
Thank you soooo much for this very helpful video. I could not get the spring back on for the life of me until I followed your instruction. You are my hero!

Fixing the door was easy, getting the spring on wasn't until I watched this video! Great job!!!

Thanks for the great video. I also had to push the vertical cam back into its proper place. Pushed and twisted it back and forth until it found its spot. Your video was followed after that.
This is the only good video that shows how to tackle the spring. Thank you.

omg! wow! thank you so much!
You the man!
Ty so much
Appreciate it man!
Thanks for watching!
Wish I would have saw this hours ago that pin is a pain 👍🏻
Do you think needle nose pliers may work better
Looks simple however i have a side box step!! Do i need to remove the side step assembly as it is to cumbersome to get arm thru the rack assy to get to fuel door spring! Help.
The spring and housing look intact, could the plastic pin have cracked or broken inside the housing?
clip wasn't easy to put on, but pin alignment was pretty easy to locate
Does anyone have a permanent fix? My spring keeps popping off the pin every time I open my cap
No because it falls out of the stupid groove ford chose to use. It’s not the spring, but the plastic mold that wears out which causes road vibration to slip it out

Hey great video, but after 3 repairs, what's the permanent fix?
