Great method and results. I'll be using this method to get rid of a scuff on the front wing of my new to me Vito. Bought the paint from Paint Gear a couple of weeks ago and Hooe to have a dry few hours tomorrow. Thanks for the tips!
the fact of the matter is, no one is staring at your vehicle anyway. Like someone walking by says, "oh my God do you see that scratch catching in the sunlight", as they are 3 inches away looking at it like its a big pimple or something lol. As long as you can do simple repairs like this to truck the eye 4-6 feet away - its all good. These are great tutorials to help us keep out cars looking decent with out spending a lot of money
Wondering why you dont have to ads clearcoat when touching in deep scratches. All that rubbing, doesnt go through the existing clearcoat around/on the scratches?
That recommendation about not cutting through the clear coat reminds me of that time when I used a touch pen to remove a scratch from my Jimny's door and all looked great. Then I overcut and burned through the clear coat (by hand!) and ended up having to paint the whole door in a body shop. At least the repair looked flawless, after that. It was a lesson well learned 😢
I don't work in the automotive field, rather IT - in some ways, world's apart. I bought a 2002 Toyota Celica for £800, bought a Veilside rep body kit at £400, so I spent half of the car's price I bought it for! Call me an idiot... And I'd agree! I managed to fit all of the parts, bought a 100L compressor, air lines, paint guns, white base coat and 1K clear. I spent ages prepping the car, learning how to paint over the course of 6-7 months - I only to burn through the clear... I wanted 2 weeks for any solvents to evaporate, and then ruined it. Luckily it was only one panel and the paint was fresh so it's not like the paint colour had enough time to degrade and fade out! I did it in white the first time because it hides imperfections really well! I wanna have another go but this time, I'd be doing it on an E92 M3. It already kills my wallet so I need to recoup the costs of any paintwork needed. At least, that's what I tell myself when I'm umming and ahhhhing about buying nardo grey for it. Anyway I've waffled on enogih. I leaned when painting my own car, that I'd just rather someone else did it because it's not my problem if they fuck it up 😂😂
Love your tutorials biught yoour kit did rear bumber had some scratches on my Carbon Black VXR from previous owner + front bumber, door panel's, left side mirror and came out real nice. Only lol forgot one side and dried out a few hours had to wet sand it but came out real nice. Having worked in basic smart repairs repairing thousands of scratches and chips I must say that's a great effort! It looks fantastic and such a quick job too 👏👏

If you take your time and follow his instructions. This stuff actually works. It's very easy to repair scratches in your paintwork. It has saved me a lot of money..
Cheers mate for all the vids, not just this one. I'm new to machine polishing, so was overly careful at the beginning. Once I'd seen a few of your vids on chips I give it a go meself on me black Honda CRV, smearing the paint in with the old finger then buffing off with a drill and some G360( bang on stuff that👍) on a farecla black foam. I found though I had to give it a quick once over with a DA to take some trails/hols out, but I don't give a toss, it saved me a ton of money.......crippled me back though🤣🤣. Cheers pal keep up the good work.
Thanks for the tips, quick question; what do you suggest for prep work/ cleaning ahead of doing the repair? A simple car shampoo cleaning or rubbing alcohol?? Much appreciated
Help me understand why and how you put on the second coat of paint, but put it over the rubbing compound ? Maybe I know just enough to g et myself in trouble, but how would the paint adhere to the layer of rubbing compound that was left in the low spot of the scratches on second application of paint ????
I gave the area a good wipe to make sure paint wasn't in the gaps, after a 1st pass usually things are looking a bit more rounded off and not as bad at leaving residue in gaps etc
@@lewnesa Thats what i mean, i should have waited to try this method first. I'm going to try lightly sanding the touch up spots with fine grit sandpaper first then try this method.
Nice one - love things like this. Quick question with the drill: how much is too much pressure? I never really know if I'm pressing too hard or not enough with any kind of paint correction...
Excellent tip, thank you only one thing perhaps need to mention to clean the surface thoroughly as you can before you start applying paint step. Also, is it possible to spray a light clear coat and polish up
Thanks for the great video. Straight to the point. I just braved myself to fix a scratch on my car. I had all the tools but was too scared to try it for one main reason - how much layers taken off when sanding the panel? Any tip on fixing car plastic emblem? My beemer rear badge got a scratch. It's not too bad but I am just paranoid. Can I apply the same method? What "filler" can be used for plastic? I'm trying to find a cheaper option instead of buying a new one.
Really good video - I'm definitely going to give it a go. One thing I've noticed with your other videos where you deal with slightly deeper scratches, sometimes you use 1500, 2000, and then 3000 wet and dry before polishing, but other times you just use 1500, 2000 and then go straight onto the polishing. Can you explain to the lay-person when to use/leave out the 3000 wet and dry?
Amazing results and I'm definitely going to try this. But I have a question. Cars usually have a layer of clear coat on top of the paint. If I don't apply any isn't the paint going to get damaged more easily? If I add clear coat is it going to make the process harder?
Nice video, thanks! Would it be a good idea to lightly sand the scratches with a 1500/2000 grit paper before starting all the process?I think it would help to make the scratches less deep to be filled with paint
Have to say. I truly appreciate these tutorials. It's givin me the confidence to have a go at small repairs myself. Thank you.
