Didn't expect to see myself in here - hi! The source of the act_dance animation is something I get emails about every so often, but I don't remember what it is myself; at the time, I had a huge stack of motion capture files from various sources, both from what I presume must have been royalty-free stock packages, and a bunch of DIY mocap made (at the time) on ipi/Kinect setups by friends. I don't know what the actual source of it is, but if the same dance clip showed up in completely unrelated productions, it must have been stock and not something made by anyone I knew. And yeah, I ended up erasing those stupid messages in the textures out of embarassment; in my defense, I was 19 and this was my first, very informal gig 😛 in fact, that was exactly 10 years ago as of this month! Time flies.
Cyan used it in a shitpost clip included in some Myst related betas. The most I can say is they used 3DS Max alot in that era. I don't know the source, would like to, but its a potential lead.
The map gm_obselisk has apparently a secret in which you can summon a "god" in the sky by doing a series of obscure rituals, such as throwing 50-100 ragdolls down the pit. If you throw more down, it will kill you if you go too high up in the map
@@DeltaDoesGarbaj There is. On the map's workshop page (search up "Obselisk"), there is a discussion thread relating to the secrets. The link to the video is in that thread.
gm_construct_13_beta has probably the most secrets out of any map I've ever seen. Like, go anywhere and there will be a secret. Sometimes secrets even interact with other secrets, creating even more secrets. It's nuts.
I was in the sewers of a dark rp server when I saw this figure quickly run by in the distance. I presumed it was another player and ran after them. I ran around the corner and this NPC monster teleported me to dark room and jumped scared me. Nobody on the server believed me. I eventually convinced an Admin to follow me and we found it again... even the Admin did not know it existed as the dark room was hidden well in the map.
I guess this can also explain the massive grass field in gm_construct's 3D skybox. I barely explored it, but it's pretty big for some reason, and a weird addition since the larger low-detail field is barely visible within the maps main boundaries.
10:15 From what it seems from the original Facepunch post from the creator of Evocity, when gmod updated to version 11 in Jan 2008 by updating to source 2007, the displacement around the cave opening got bugged. Before Jan 2008 the map worked perfectly fine. If you delete the displacement in hammer editor then compile the map the cave will no longer crash your game. I've tried it before.
3:20 In Flatgrass, there actually is a way to get in there without noclip. You can spawn a chair or a vehicle in the wall right where the area is, enter it, and get out. You'll probably be in that room. It takes sometime to get it right, but you'll get used to it. I do this glitch to make creations in sandbox servers in peace.
I cant stand watching the stuff unless I mute it, I hate the "NPR storyteller" thing he pulls where he always tries to stretch words out and frame suspenseful questions about ridiculously unimportant details of maps and even entire indie games I've watched him play.
@@randymarshislorde I think you don't like watching him then. I'd describe it this way: He purposefully talks about details that most people don't talk about. This could be a great series, and I remember gm_russia having some great creepy Easter eggs like the room with the cheaple in it. I remember trying to no clip in and getting teleported to a room with a creepy face.
Your channel is currently one of the channels i enjoy watching most. The topics interest me alot, it just scratches that itch of obscure source facts I need.
gm_13hotels always scared the shit out of me. Thankfully I never found the jumpscare on my own, but the rat man's noises combined with the overall atmosphere always made me too scared to play that map on my own. Also, I remember finding something that Richter didn't mention: I was messing a round with an the aimbot gun addon, and it locked onto a Gman NPC hidden somewhere in the map. When I tried to noclip to it, I got teleported away, like when you try to access the secret room in Big City. Maybe it's part of another, more obscure easter egg? Or maybe I'm just misremembering (though I'm pretty certain this did happen to me a couple of times.) Either way, that map still creeps me out so I don't feel like investigating further on my own lol
Some weird knowledge I know in general is that the sv_cheats command isn't just limited to 0 or 1, it actually goes up to 2. Whatever gets changed with 2 I have no idea, but I tend to use 2 more than 1 when hosting sessions for my friends nowadays
You can input any value you want into any console variable, including random text and numbers way outside of the range of what they actually accept. Setting it to values greater than 1 doesn't actually change anything.
It works like Linux file permissions. In Sven Co-op, the sv_cheats variable allows different permissions based on the value you assign. 1 gives global access to cheats if there are less than four players, 2 gives access to administrators only, 3 gives access to the server owner only, and 255 allows global access as well as some debug commands if there are less than four players. No doubt sv_cheats acts similarly in other Source games. Perhaps HL2: Deathmatch, for example. Could probably find an explanation on different values in the bowels of some forum online.
There's this new map that is just basically another edit of gm_construct. It's called gm_fullstruct I think. I've seen some people say that if you stay in the dark room for long enough, you'll start to hear screams that will follow you anywhere. I personally don't believe it because I stayed in that room for maybe an hour and nothing happened. I even brought the doll from the secret room there. But maybe I'm just a victim of a copypasta or something.
rp_evocity_v2d's cave doesn't crash if the map is run in Left 4 Dead, from what I've seen. It's likely the map was originally made for the pre-Orange Box Source engine

The rooms in the counter strike maps go way back, to CS/CZ days. Admins used to TP teamkillers and rude players into those rooms for a round or two as punishment. They sometimes had creator credits in there too, depending on the map.
when I played gm_bigcity, like, a long time ago, I found that garage door and when I interacted with it and heard the laugh I imagined a pitch black heavy behind the door for some reason so that scared me lol
It's a mod and not a map, but I remember that for one of the most used atm plugin/mods, typing in a certain code on the atm would make it rocket up into the sky. Alternatively, pressing "8" eight times would make it verbally say eight, and Flash a big number 8 up on your screen
i have a theory that the flattywood sign is a direct reference to Serious Sam The Second encounter. As the second level there features a nearly identical sign "Crollywood" which is positioned on a nearly identical set of mountains. I think the HD remasters of Serious Sam came out somewhere around the release of Gmod 13.
@@subway2227 No, both maps are large open grassy fields with mountains surrounding them, and a central structure in the middle, this is too much to be a coincidence. I mean, what are the chances?
You missed a gm_hotels easter egg, when you're on the railed platform the rat man is under, you can look up to see a vent. If you climb into it you get teleported to a combine station of some sort, and in there is another teleporter that will bring you to a room inside a void, which contains a painting of someone's cat.

I actually found most of these secrets on my own as a kid (I have about 2000 hours on gmod over the years) and I remember on big city on one of the main buildings there was a door that tps you up to the top floor of the building where there was a secret locked door with a passcode. I somehow managed to crack the passcode (which must have taken ages) which then opened up to a cctv room. There is also a. Other secret room near spawn.
Hey Richter Overtime. Thought I’d ask or propose a small idea, for a video series would you maybe do a background check into TF2 freaks? Such as what they are, when they were made, so on and so on.
10:41 oh i remember seeing that one on a vide about easter eggs in gmod maps, from what i remember it was a series too,but i forgot the channel that made them
i feel like the one thing for me personally in this video - because i never played gmod but i watched a lot of gmod animations from a *certain* fanbase way back when - that made me age 10 years is the silent twilight sparkle jumpscare. holy shit, that took me back
the "Rat Man" easter egg is a subtle nod to the portal book "Still Alive" inwhich a researcher named "Doug RATMAN" survives GLaDOS's neurotoxin and causes the events of Portal 1.
There's more than meets the eye when it comes to Flatgrass, which was known as Flattywood before the areas deforestation was ordered by the US Department of Defense. Go goes that herbicides and eventually napalm were used to wipe the regions flora while billions of taxpayer dollars were invested in the construction of an expansive underground bunker and the excavatory leveling of the above ground. What remains is a mysterious and uncharacteristically flat restricted area deep within the American Great Plains, rumored to be testing grounds for classified experimental government technology. Though this backstory is subtlety hinted at through details like the Flattywood sign and the doll safe room that eludes to the inaccessible bunker below the map, it's highly unlikely that any of this plot would have ever been figured out or brought to light if not for the recent discovery of the Garry's Mod 13 Game Manual and Promotional CD, which was up until recently considered lost media.
I have a distinct memory of stumbling upon a hidden and sprawling underground labyrinth in an Gmod city style rp server that seemed extremely out of place. It started as an entrance to a sewer system, that through some couch jumping lead to an underground apartment, then metro tunnels, and finally a full blown cave system ending in a large empty space with a bit of water. Every turn along the way was purposely obscure and the whole thing was entrancing. It was like an amusement park ride where you turn into gollum. None of my friends had seen it before, and as a spacy kid I never found the map again. I don't think I could now even if I really tried. A little bittersweet, but it's part of the charm I have to it looking back. I'm really curious to if anyone even remotely knows what I'm talking about.

Here's an Easter egg in one of Richter's videos. In the source mod videos if you have a brain, you can figure out that he never actually played HDtF. (the 2018 version and the OWF version) also Richter is just another one of M3SA's alter egos which also includes Berkan, Bolloxed, and all of the original HDtf actors.

The so-called "GMod dance" was also used in a 2007 video called "Dancing with the Star Wars - Clones & Droids", so yeah, it's a stock animation.
10:42 why did this scare of shit out of me ? 😭
It triggered my fight or flight response
i’d shit my pants if i saw that in game 💀
@@Entertainment0verdose Was it fight or flight?
The fucked up part is that's not even fanmade, she just does that in an episode
I love how the stalker scream went from one of the most feared sound effects in video game history to one of the most popular meme SFX ever.
8:53 shit i jumped
same
i feel like the one thing for me personally in this video - because i never played gmod but i watched a lot of gmod animations from a *certain* fanbase way back when - that made me age 10 years is the silent twilight sparkle jumpscare. holy shit, that took me back
okay so i had never heard of this map till today and 8:57 honestly made my soul leave my body for a second
the "Rat Man" easter egg is a subtle nod to the portal book "Still Alive" inwhich a researcher named "Doug RATMAN" survives GLaDOS's neurotoxin and causes the events of Portal 1.
*Rattman
@Cynical I'll look into that, thanks.
sounds like gm_voidspaces
Fun fact, there are two cities in the skybox of flatgrass. The second one is behind the flattywood hill, if I remember.
I fr discovered this first time I played💀
as of june earlier this year i have been playing gmod for over 10 years and man it makes me feel old. but thanks for making content for a game that extends early in my youth,
best game
11:28 How about Portal 2 Taunts ?
Lovin the Dacobeers reference at the end

09:21 "Rat man", escaped prison, underground, room with a radio? Any relation to Doug Rattman from Portal lore?

4:58 is the exact time of the body in gm big city
Pronounces bow as bow and not bow, true huntsman sniper right there
5:00 I ABSOULTY REMEMBER THIS. When i came back to gmod after a while I went to try this again and i was very confused because i couldn't get it to work and figured i was just mis-remembering it. glad im not crazy (or at least not crazy alone).
I love Whomobile’s Weird Maps series where he showcases old maps and their secrets. A good trip down memory lane for most!
colten rappe has got to be the unluckiest last name on earth
You ever heard of Gm_Rudmerge? its a map full of secrets and not easy ones to get to. You should try the map out its a really fun map. when i first played i thought it was just some cool city map but then i found some "stuff" that made realize that this is not some normal city map
8:57 scared me so much that i fell from my chair.... lol good job

1:19 Poor High Voltage, didn't even get a shoutout for their project.
11:20 Englishman here, Nope never heard it, but it is genuine slang from...somewhere. Google at your peril
Here's an Easter egg in one of Richter's videos. In the source mod videos if you have a brain, you can figure out that he never actually played HDtF. (the 2018 version and the OWF version)
also Richter is just another one of M3SA's alter egos which also includes Berkan, Bolloxed, and all of the original HDtf actors.
2:39 the last one on the list Cyborgmatt, is a figure in the Dota2 scene. Didn't expect to see his name.
3:05
I once put a nextbot of SCP-096 in that room and triggered him
He got out
That… sounds amazing. Also that name is very familiar…
Ik I saw him smash an orphanage for fun
I shouldve never looked up lobotomy without GD at the end 😭
