I wish more games had nearly-broken-overpowered kick melee. They're always so fun. I remember spending far too much time in Dark Messiah of Might & Magic standing at the top of a flight of stairs and kicking enemies in the head as they came up to try to attack me.
The really broken and janky game NecroVision will always have a soft spot in my heart because of that. You had a kick, melee weapons and melee attacks for your ranged weapons and could combine them with firing to execute different combos.

I remember as a kid "making" a multiplayer mod by just copying smod's files into half life 2 deathmatch, smod was that reuploaded that it was totally normal just to make your own versions lmao
Seeing as the mod was made by a Japanese person, the soybeans actually have a very funny implication in that they were said to have been used to drive evil spirits away. In fact, this is actually a real, traditional festival that some Japanese people take part in. The festival in question is called “Setsubun”. There’s a lot more to it than it seems, but I just thought it was funny that a soybean box used in a traditional festival is a weapon in this game.

Nice. Like the guy above said, you should archive them online. It would be a terrible shame if all those versions were lost to some computer crash or HD malfunction.
Hi! I'm the original creator of "SMOD Remastered", the first altered version of SMOD. I also helped popularise SMOD by writing a mod review of normal SMOD for Planet Half Life. I'm the guy that turned the friendly combine into HL1 soldiers, Combine Aces into female assassins, changed the Combine to have HL1 hgrunt sounds (so you can understand what they are shouting about!), gave the laser rifle and tau cannon those new models, added the OICW and P90, made the HUD orange rather than blue and returned the font to normal (to make it look and feel like Half Life, and be more easily readable), and went through all the map edits & scripts to make things play better and better a bit less chaotic. I also changed the soundtrack to Command & Conquer music & made it so that music played for most of the game rather than short spurts like on normal HL2. I made the bullet time use Chronosphere sound effects and have a blue tinted distortion effect filter, to make it some kind of experimental TimeShift-stylde time manipulation feature of the HEV suit, rather than Max Payne/FEAR style adrenaline. Many of my weapon and NPC model changes were made with the help of people on the old HIT forums (Half Life Improvement Team), much of it was done by a guy named Onemanshow47. He then released his own modified version of my mod, called "SMOD Remastered Redux", with his own changes and improvements. He released about a dozen versions of SMOD Remastered Redux, and by the last couple of versions he dropped the 'Remastered" bit and simply named it SMOD Redux, which was fair enough as he'd removed stuff like the C&C music and chronoshift sounds, and added so many new features of his own, that it was 90% his work. He did keep me in the credits in the readme file & instructions. Onemanshow was mostly responsible keeping SMOD alive and working and downloadable, so it was right & proper for him to drop the clunky "Remastered Redux" and just call it "SMOD Redux". But it is fun to see that many of my changes & additions are still in there, in the last version of Smod Redux that you showed in your video. For several years I worked on my own new version, HL2 Chrono Commando, that would lean more heavily into the time manipulation aspect, and have combine soldiers teleporting in, like aliens in HL1. (Which I know breaks HL2 lore, but they were supposed to be time travelling from the future to stop Gordon, Terminator-style.). Unfortunately updates to the HL2 engine broke things and slowed development, and then due to real-life stuff I never completed it and released it. But, a few years ago, for Valentine's Day I stayed up one night and modified it into "Angela's Valentine Adventure", so that my wife could play through HL2 but with overpowered cheat weapons like the Magical Stick and throwing scissors. I made metrocops sometimes say "NOT ALL MEN" like annoying guys on the internet. And when throwing scissors or kicking people the game would randomly play the war cry of Xena Warrior Princess. I'll do a follow-up comment with a link to the RUclips video of her playing it. Your video makes me want to resume work on HL2 Chrono Commando, and release it! I hope I find the time.
As a Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2: Yuri's Revenge modder, I can appreciate the effort. I'm excited to see your progress, should you ever start developing your own standalone game!

Love the use of the hl2 survivor Gordon model, if they completed the third person model for Gordon in Half life 2 they would have probably used that, I use it as my normal player model in Gmod

Japanese Half-Life mods feels odd. Another Japanese Half-Life mod is Sweet Half-Life for Half-Life 1, it has a few arts for the main menu and other things. It's a good polished mod for its time with new guns and a new faction (martians). And then there's also "Peace Like Us" it's a normal Half-Life mod set in an alternate timeline where Black Mesa managed to be friends with Xen. Both mod FEELS weird especially when compared to other Half-Life mods. It's not as weird as Crack-Life but there's something about Half-Life mods made by Japanese modders that just feels, different. They definitely put a lot of effort into it and at the same time it feels janky and buggy. Like, you have to play them to feel the difference (Aside from the anime pictures). Not just that but because Sweet Half-Life hadn't been updated for so long, you have to do a few things first before you can play the mod. UNRELATED: In Svencoop (a coop version of Half-Life 1). There are unknown number of Japanese communities, it's unknown because it's very hard to find informations about them without going to Japanese sites. They've been making maps for svencoop for decades now. Most of them are very weird, including reference to old and obscure Japanese memes and topics. They also made a few classics. One of them is pizza_ya_san where you fight alien invasions, houndeyes with human head, a giant robot, helicopter, robot grunts, and fly with your jetpacks in a middle of a literal natural disaster of tornadoes because you have to deliver a comically large pizza to a small 50 year old cute pink cat. Aside from those classic maps, they also use obscure musics for their maps most of the time dating back to 1999 and even 1980. Not just that but most of those musics are rumoured to be bought from those old DVD and tape music stores with no digital release. Essentially making those map filled with a bunch of lost musics with unknown titles, let alone the name of the bands. My favourite Japanese map is "forgotten-map", the map design itself is NOT good. It's just a bunch of zombies respawning with a very fast high hp zombie for the end game. But the music, skybox, and map textures made me play that map for an hour. It's not even that good either but it just screams "Forgotten digital data of a map waiting for its end". With the shattered moon for the skybox I. I don't know man. The music is on youtube though fortunately and made by a band now known for their Touhou songs, one of them being Cirno Perfect Math Class.
Hi Richter just popping in as an old player of the SMODs such as Outbreak & Redux Version 8. This video impressed me & cool to feature my best friend Dissy EX's guide on the video btw.
I remember writing and posting an entire tutorial to BSNOOCH on how to configure ironsights for custom weapon models. I wanted to eventually learn how to port CS:S weapons for use into SMod, but even with the tutorials on that forum, I could never quite figure it out. Simpler times, man. SMod was a big part of my childhood and I still go back to play various SMod branches every once in a while.
Sir, i applaud you. Many years ago i found a video showing weird and odd weapons - we are talking like the literal era of RUclips with blocky buttons, the stars rating ect...and for the life of me i was convinced it was all G-Mod, never finding the actual compilation of those guns. I never found that video again. Instead of G-mod they all came from here, as soon as i've seen the PSP i dropped my jaw. Awesome!
Oh damn. I remember hearing about SMod back when I was first introduced to Half Life through a friend who had played it but didn't have the files anymore so he couldn't show me, then later seeing a 144p resolution video on early RUclips of someone playing it in the Nova Prospekt levels, throwing scissors and bananas around while bitcrunched System of a Down blasted. The whole thing had a very mythical vibe, being this bizarre weapon mod that apparently existed but that I had almost no tangible proof of and that I never got to experience myself like a friend telling about the massive fish that got away. Eventually I stopped thinking about it, and I had no idea that it had ever been as popular as it was or that it was and remains to be as mysterious as it is. I think I might have to finally after all these years pick it up and see it for myself.
bro richter i fw your videos heavy, i feel like i could listen to you talk about the most obscure things imaginable and still be invested in it, idk how else to describe it lmao. keep up the good work king
I remember when I was like 12, I tried playing SMod Redux and after getting past the part where the airboat (or mudskipper if you’re weird) is changed out for the car, I ended up dying over and over to a bunch of metrocops who had some kinda laser machine gun thing. Raged quit and never played it again lol
Weird I have never head of Smod before but I have played with its cheat weapons before in Gmod. I have strong nostalgia for the banana bombs, its so satisfying to use
I have a vague memory of playing a map inspired by Equilibre in Jabroni Brawl Episode 3, tho I can't recall if that was the real deal or an imitation. Non the less the aesthetic of this map is what shines within the vibes of a Source Engine game, it's foggy atmosphere is intense for a combat scenario given it was originally made for HL2DM. As for SMod, I've had already seen it's weapons being added as addons to Gmod later on outside of the workshop but never got to try the mod itself, wouldn't be the last time I saw Gordon throwing an explosive stack of bananas that's for sure.
You can actually use Alyx's gun in Gmod. You can alter the spawn gun for NPCS like a pistol or an AR2. You can choose Annabelle (Father Grigori's rifle) or Alyx's gun as options. It fires like Alyx's gun and it's pretty cool. It's doesn't have it's custom skin. It looks like a normal pistol from HL2.
I love Smod, One variation I wholeheartedly recommend is CSS SCI FI 3: Hardwired. I have a playthrough of it on my channel. Smod is a fantastic experience that more people should try. It shaped my taste in games and showed me what mods could be.
13:17 I'm sure it's obvious, but "Snayperskaya vintovka Dragunova" is translated to "Dragunov's sniper rifle". Yevgeny Dragunov being the designer of the gun
I was introduced to SMOD through a Sweps pack on Gmod workshop. I never really delved deep into the origins of where the weapons came from, but I really enjoyed the weapons that was offered there. My favorite being the UMD launcher.
19:11 I had no idea you wrote some videos for radiation hazard and having played a bit of Equiibre. I think it perfectly captures Half life 2 aesthetic and feel to it. I think it's awesome that you cover obscure maps and mods like things because most people don't realize how much there missing out on with these old mods. You probably given this old maps and modes new life by just talking about them and I think that's amazing.
At some point in my life i was so obsessed with the mod I tried everything to make it work, but I kept crashing at some points and only ever had been able to have 3 or 4 playthrough before never being able to play it anymore
The hours and hours I spent as a young child hardly understanding how a computer works in vain attempts wading through russian and japanese websites trying desperately to get both this and the WC mappack to work I wouldnt take those hours back for the world I gotta get this shit installed tonight and actually experience it, thank you richter overtime
I like how the title screen of this mod perfectly encapsulates the feel of the mod and the era this mod was made in Also this video made me realize psp is almost 20 years old, unbelievable honestly
8:12 Oh right, now that you jogged my memory, I actually DID try SMod: Tactical many years ago. It looked very similar to the footage shown here, except the metrocops in City 17 used CS:S models and the blue soda can was replaced with the red soda can at 8:23, but it still lit the cop on fire and killed him in the same fashion. That's where I stopped playing at the time, and I don't know why I never picked it back up.
I have a question? can you make a video on cyanidelover299? its not a gmod arg but its still kinda an arg, but its really short. Theres also a secret vid in one of his playlists
@@CyanSoups Yeah sorry to reveal this but I was born right next to the mod creators computer and broke everything (It also deleted everything on the computer)
I hope richter is aware that in the Metal Gear SMOD you can swap between different play styles in the mod as opposed to just the red mode. One of the modes is all about melee combat which is awesome. Blue mode is stealth, green mode is ranged, and orange mode is Gordon
Mods like "MMod" "SMod" "Overcharged" Aren't like GMod or other sandbox games like JBmod based around the source engine. MMod, SMod, or even others like Overcharged are basically just modifcation overhauls to Half - Life 2 and the source engine. And with the amount of hate, Overcharged and SMod get for the total amount randomness that kind of "ruins the game" addcording some people, they are kind of fun in a way as if we were playing GMod but then spawning in random enemies in the Half - Life 2 campaign.
At first I was unsure what mod you were talking about with that title, but after having watched the vid, referring to Smod like that kinda fits, especially since both mods make extensive use of Lua scripting.
I loved watching SMOD videos when I was a kid and I used to play the hell out of SMOD redux when I first got my steam account, way back in 2013, I also got GMOD for the first time back then too.
There was another mod built off of SMOD called Obsidian Conflict that i olayed the absolute crap out of. So many different levels/minigames, all of which are lost to time. Ill never forget it
it wild to see this mod, considering i know alot of what this mod had to offer from another mod called Underhell, a now abandoned mod that uses alot of similar features. especially from Smod Tactical. like the kick, the weapon movement, the weapons, even down to the UI
I know this is just a trope with 4chan but... Rule 63: For every given male character, there is a female version of that character (and vice-versa). Rule 65: If it doesn't, there will be.
"Everybody and their mom owns gmod" Me: (casually searches up what its like to own a pc) Side note: im pretty sure gmod is pc only, not sure, but i don't own a pc so.. how would i know?
Also, I don't known if i just wasnt playing the official version or something but i do remember at least being able to pick up the scissors and the banana bombs. They are just super hidden. I vividly remember picking up the scissors in one of the airboat chapters on a shelf tucked away in one if the outposts you fight through.
22:17 I remember playing Crylife back then as a kid. But I never have played Crysis to compare it to lol. It had a couple of special abilities/suit powers you could choose from. It had speed, jumping, strength, a shield mode too I think. It also had a stealth suit where you could cloak iirc. It had about the HL2 amount of guns but they were all much more realistic and beefier, and iirc you could customize their attachments? Most of what I did through the game, and certainly through Ravenholm, was equip the strength suit and just kick everything, because ofc it still had the kick.
Is it weird that I knew you were gonna talk about SMOD before even clicking the video? It used to be so popular back in the day. Especially variants like SMOD tactical.
“Those strange jumping combine Ace enemies have also been turned into the female combine assassins from the half-life 2 beta, which is actually a pretty fitting change” I couldn’t agree more lol. Fire vid btw, keep up the good work 🗿🍷🔥

Awesome!
I thought Smod is pretty well known. There are like a million Gmod addons of just the guns from Smod
I think I might have to finally after all these years pick it up and see it for myself.
thank you for existing, Richter.
bro richter i fw your videos heavy, i feel like i could listen to you talk about the most obscure things imaginable and still be invested in it, idk how else to describe it lmao. keep up the good work king
You know its a good day when Richter Overtime posts
4:06 Welcome to Quake III Arena. Enter the portal to begin combat.
Great video! I find it funny that Underhell is barely a footnote. I'd love to see more people talk about it. I really like it.
Love the equilibre part. Great content as always.
Smod had so much potential it needs a comeback right now
The "Stuff Launcher" is genuine genius game design, someone please make a game about this!
so the junk jet from fallout 4?
fallout already has those
@@slavsit7600 yeah, exactly they have it so the game this person was asking for already (kind of) exists
... Half-Life 2? Since it has the Gravity Gun as a feature and all?
It's literally like the gravity gun. Only difference is that you can store items in it without the need to manually carry them around.
The csc desert map brings back so many memories of old gmod rp build servers.
Finally a Mr. Overtime video
I love Smod, One variation I wholeheartedly recommend is CSS SCI FI 3: Hardwired. I have a playthrough of it on my channel.
Smod is a fantastic experience that more people should try. It shaped my taste in games and showed me what mods could be.
Cringe self promo
I can't believe it took me 20 years to realize that the PSP weapon was a Tribes reference.
13:17 I'm sure it's obvious, but "Snayperskaya vintovka Dragunova" is translated to "Dragunov's sniper rifle". Yevgeny Dragunov being the designer of the gun
i respect you for putting the POSTAL 2 map soundtrack in the intro,.
I regret nothing.
Bro avoiding INTERLOPER like a wild fire
Whats the song from 1:22?
I was introduced to SMOD through a Sweps pack on Gmod workshop. I never really delved deep into the origins of where the weapons came from, but I really enjoyed the weapons that was offered there. My favorite being the UMD launcher.
i love richter blobbertime
19:11 I had no idea you wrote some videos for radiation hazard and having played a bit of Equiibre. I think it perfectly captures Half life 2 aesthetic and feel to it. I think it's awesome that you cover obscure maps and mods like things because most people don't realize how much there missing out on with these old mods. You probably given this old maps and modes new life by just talking about them and I think that's amazing.
At some point in my life i was so obsessed with the mod I tried everything to make it work, but I kept crashing at some points and only ever had been able to have 3 or 4 playthrough before never being able to play it anymore
6:32 new Breen soda flavor: cherry limeade

Give us the means to enjoy this for ourselves Richter, don't make me get the Chucklenuts

“Thank you PigterOgretime,” we all say in unison
OI, THAT MAP ON THE BOTTOM AT 17:54 WAS LITERALLY MY CHILDHOOD, I spent literally over 1000 hours on a fallout server with that map

I actually kinda like that idea. Ravenholm being so hostile that Gordon and his enemies need to team up to get out alive
outbreak was sweet. gunplay like smod tactical and mapadds that filled the whole campaign with npc_zombie2
The hours and hours I spent as a young child hardly understanding how a computer works in vain attempts wading through russian and japanese websites trying desperately to get both this and the WC mappack to work
I wouldnt take those hours back for the world
I gotta get this shit installed tonight and actually experience it, thank you richter overtime

What mod?
@@HemlockTheRat a few months ago i made the bread's mod game, my old pc broke down and i dont have any of the old game files anymore :/
@@KauanTheBread dang, sorry that happened. still cool you made that though!
Woah a cool mod! Thanks for showcasing this mate. I'mma get addicted to it
Lack of Half Life 2 co-op experience? Obsidian Conflict got you.
I like how the title screen of this mod perfectly encapsulates the feel of the mod and the era this mod was made in
Also this video made me realize psp is almost 20 years old, unbelievable honestly
HE FINALLY POSTED!!!!!!! 🔥🗣️🔥🔥🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️🔥🔥🔥🗣️🔥🗣️🔥🗣️🔥
thank you Richter Overtime for letting me discover SMOD
i spent 11 hours trying to decompile, install and play SMOD tacticat
5:53 NO, THAT IS NOT SOLID SNAKE!
1:29 kitty!!!!❤❤
The last version of SMod was uploaded ON my birth date... kind of awesome sauce
You were the harbinger of Smod's destruction.
@@CyanSoups Yeah sorry to reveal this but I was born right next to the mod creators computer and broke everything (It also deleted everything on the computer)
Smod is my favourite hl2 mod, i love it and its very sad to see it being forgotten.
I hope richter is aware that in the Metal Gear SMOD you can swap between different play styles in the mod as opposed to just the red mode. One of the modes is all about melee combat which is awesome. Blue mode is stealth, green mode is ranged, and orange mode is Gordon
I unfortunately missed out on this amazing smod community. So i’m gonna give it a try now that you’ve brought it to my attention.
BRO SOMEONE MADE A VIDEO ON THIS FINALLY THANK YOU
What is the outro song?
At first I was unsure what mod you were talking about with that title, but after having watched the vid, referring to Smod like that kinda fits, especially since both mods make extensive use of Lua scripting.
i played an smod gmon addon that gave me the smod weapons and i had zero clue what smod was, i vividly remember the soy
Ill never forget it
"i wish someone's time was over."
richter:
it wild to see this mod, considering i know alot of what this mod had to offer from another mod called Underhell, a now abandoned mod that uses alot of similar features. especially from Smod Tactical. like the kick, the weapon movement, the weapons, even down to the UI

Why do a lot of valve RUclipsrs have fem versions of male characters from their games as the thumbnail
People are coomers
It was video relevant at least
I know this is just a trope with 4chan but...
Rule 63: For every given male character, there is a female version of that character (and vice-versa).
Rule 65: If it doesn't, there will be.
Because women are sexy
@@NecroKun2403 Rule 64?
What the hell, I love SMOD, I was so amazed how blood clouds form in water, their fortune soldier inspired gore system is top notch.
"there will be a download in the description" there is no download richter
edit: there now is
There now is : ]
There is a link, you nimrod its all the way down
0:09 Finally, Richter doesn’t roast/diss MLP.
"Everybody and their mom owns gmod"

Side note: im pretty sure gmod is pc only, not sure, but i don't own a pc so.. how would i know?
22:23 just gonna ignore the baby apparently
hello richard overtly
Also, I don't known if i just wasnt playing the official version or something but i do remember at least being able to pick up the scissors and the banana bombs. They are just super hidden. I vividly remember picking up the scissors in one of the airboat chapters on a shelf tucked away in one if the outposts you fight through.
isn't it funny?
22:17 I remember playing Crylife back then as a kid. But I never have played Crysis to compare it to lol. It had a couple of special abilities/suit powers you could choose from. It had speed, jumping, strength, a shield mode too I think. It also had a stealth suit where you could cloak iirc. It had about the HL2 amount of guns but they were all much more realistic and beefier, and iirc you could customize their attachments? Most of what I did through the game, and certainly through Ravenholm, was equip the strength suit and just kick everything, because ofc it still had the kick.
Bro smod looks actually kinda fire I might need to get this
Is it weird that I knew you were gonna talk about SMOD before even clicking the video? It used to be so popular back in the day. Especially variants like SMOD tactical.
15:33 FALLOUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
“Those strange jumping combine Ace enemies have also been turned into the female combine assassins from the half-life 2 beta, which is actually a pretty fitting change” I couldn’t agree more lol. Fire vid btw, keep up the good work 🗿🍷🔥
Richter. Your videos are absolutely amazing, you always make the greatest videos and im so thankful to have found your channel. Keep up the good work and i hope everything is going well for you. You’re also the greatest Gmod RUclipsr that has ever lived and i’ll make sure to actually watch all your videos.
