    fun fact: the spy originated as a bug that would let a player spawn at the other teams base with their colours but still not be on their team, which became commonly used in the community (you could still damage the "spy" player in this bug)

    • @chrisdavis2161
      @chrisdavis2161 11 месяцев назад +5

      this sounds made up... I remember there was a "spybug" but the class was created before the bug was surfaced... I remember it being more linked to switching teams. you would switch teams to balance the server but your character would change to a different team but not switch colors, so you would be a red person in the blue team spawn and no one could kill you... eventually the server would kill you for the illegal action

      @@LividImp day of defeat just had basic "classes" that were just for different guns and it had small maps. "Brotherhood of arms" was going to be a modern, class based, vehicle combat, big map game. @@bulletghost3452 I used to play every one of the games mentioned in this video (accept the unreleased ones obviously). None of the games back then had side-grades like TF2 does. It was all just "basic classes" as you call it. And most BF players liked the smaller maps with less vehicles (much to my chagrin). So most of the time you'd get stuck on those maps anyway. Bigger maps only make sense in games with lots of vehicles, so there was no reason to make large DoD maps. I didn't like DoD as much as BF1942 or BF2 (as I am a big time vehicle guy), but it was mostly the same experience once you stripped the vehicles away.

Maybe a major new gamemode like MvM. I think it was a reasonable move, actually. The world was absolutely inundated with "realistic" shooters about then in the CoD, Battlefield etc. series, while TF2 kinda clung to the earlier roots of more abstract FPS games like Quake and Unreal.
      TF2 has gotten goofier over the years; it was always somewhat lighthearted in tone, but it played it's 60's spy/action flick setting a little straighter than it does now, the outright ridiculous backstory with Australium and Abraham Lincoln perfecting rocket jumping came later. TF2 was flanderized, I guess is how I'd put it.
