Very nice video! But as a PT I just need to point out one small error in the animation. As the arm abducts 180 degrees, only about 120 degrees comes from the glenohumeral joint. The remaining 60 degrees comes from medial rotation of the scapula on the ribcage. This may seem pedantic, but it's an important anatomic fact when treating shoulder injuries.

Thank you Gary. Yes it s not pendantic...it is absolutly important for medicine students and pros in all health areas...as an DO i have to know those details to help my patients in a maximum professional way...

I have recurring shoulder pain from bench and dumb bell benching. I'm trying to watch these videos to pick out what part of the shoulder is moving wrong to make my shoulder hurt. It's a complicated issue.... not just the tendons for the shoulder but the ones from the chest. I think it isn't part of my legiments- however my family has a history of weak legiments. I'm not really sure how to distinguish a ligiment issue vrs tension or muscle impengment. Hopefully starting from breaking this down to the fundamental parts helps

I agree with others who wrote praises below. I fell and tore my humerus. It was down 2", completely out of its socket. I have been trying to figure out what my best course of action is - total reverse shoulder replacement surgery, and/or continued physical therapy which, to my amazement, has begun to pull my humerus back into position. It helps a lot to be able to see how the shoulder is made and how it works. Thank you so much Dr. Sechrest, and thanks to the animator(s) who created this excellent video.

This is absolutely INCREDIBLE! I used to be an artist when I was younger and we had anatomy classes where the instructor drew the anatomy (and it was for drawing, not for medicine). But I've often wished to have EXACTLY this kind of animation-crystal clear, excellently animated and fantastically illustrated-with explanations of what we're looking at. Just imagine, now, if we could somehow zoom in, and in, and in, until we could knife through the layers and see muscles, with fibres, then blood vessels, then down to individual cells, all separate, on their own layer with their own audio.
One day it will be this way-and perhaps it will be able to be projected in 3D right in front of you, a-la Princess Leia.
But this is an amazing start-many thanks for this! I think your subscriber base is going to take off one day.

If you happen to have a sore in on your shoulder that isn't going a way after massages and that is sapping the strength of your arm or limiting your range of motion, it's a knot that is being clinched/caught up by your shoulder blade and one of your ribs. Release the knot by finding the one rib on your chest that feels out of place or not in uniform with the rest of your ribs, and push it with your other hand, take a deep breath and hold, while moving the injured side of your arm up and down side ways. I learned this on yt and it took 3 seconds to fix what I have had for almost a year and spent so much money on.

I had a shoulder operation about 20 years ago which worked very well. It is now very painful and difficult to use, a scan shows that all the tendons are snapped and there is a rotator cup tear. I have tried for about six years to have it repaired.
I also have had two left shoulder operations. The first was done by a trainee surgeon and monitored by an orthopaedic surgeon. I was told the joint just needed cleaning out. The trainee surgeon did a lot of damage. I was left with a shoulder that was very painful and difficult to move. I later found out my shoulder had been damaged and now had a 30mm rotator cuff tear and snapped tendons as well as a snapped bicep tendon. The surgeon who had been training the trainee surgeon refused to examine me after the operation and informed me there was nothing more they could do. I was forced to see a second surgeon. He tried to repair the tendons and rotator cup tear but was unable to repair them which left me with a shoulder I cannot use. It has taken me many years to find a surgeon who will help me. I have been told I need both shoulders replaced. My question is. Can torn tendons be repaired when I have these operations?

@@bldlightpainting Why did God design joints that are so fragile and prone to producing much pain? Most engineers could design a better joint and in fact many people are replacing the crappy joints that God designed with less painful and better-functioning man-made joints.
Speaking of illogical, who designed God? Using your logic, God could not have been "created from nothing and absent a designer".

My shoulder was shattered. At work. Thrown from, dragged and crushed by three rail cars. Axillary nerve damage resulting in partial paralysis of deltoids. Rotator cup knocked off, greater tuberosity broken off, humerous broken in half. Can't raise my arm and pain is unbearable if I try. Can't even write a letter anymore because my arm won't get my hand into position. Disabled. Many more injuries and I have been investigating them all. This is probably the best video seen so far in regards to clarity. Very easy to follow. Thank you.

This is a great video. I found it very informative and so easy to understand.
I was at the receiving end of a viscous attack. In which I suffered a few shoulder and neck injuries.
I will be taking screen shots to show to my orthopedic surgeon exactly where I have the pains.
I'm very grateful you made this video.
    Thank you

Yeah its bcz when muscles become exhausted, they swell, which puts pressure on nerves causing loss of transmission of nerve impulse or in second case all the ATP is used by muscle so fu gets go lack on ATP and stop moving

@@user-ok8bh3ce3f shoulder is better now. I was able to avoid surgery by getting steroid shots into my shoulder and going to physical therapy. I also had bursitis, and something else dealing with the head of my clavicle bone. Can’t remember what it was called at this moment. I basically had to lower my work load on the shoulder and do a LOT of stretching.

I have broken my left collarbone, shattered the right collarbone, and broke my right shoulder blade before. Videos like this that explain the many different parts and their functions are very interesting. Definitely thank you for the content

Semper Fi freewill you dangus, what kind of loving God forces his creations to obey him. He gave us the choice, and we chose to sin instead of follow God. That's why we degenerate and die, for the wages of sin is death. God gave us a way out though because he loved us, Jesus became the sacrifice to attone for our sins by the spilling of his blood. That gift is free, you can either choose to accept the gift or refuse it
