Very nice video! But as a PT I just need to point out one small error in the animation. As the arm abducts 180 degrees, only about 120 degrees comes from the glenohumeral joint. The remaining 60 degrees comes from medial rotation of the scapula on the ribcage. This may seem pedantic, but it's an important anatomic fact when treating shoulder injuries.
Thank you Gary. Yes it s not pendantic...it is absolutly important for medicine students and pros in all health areas...as an DO i have to know those details to help my patients in a maximum professional way...
I have recurring shoulder pain from bench and dumb bell benching. I'm trying to watch these videos to pick out what part of the shoulder is moving wrong to make my shoulder hurt. It's a complicated issue.... not just the tendons for the shoulder but the ones from the chest. I think it isn't part of my legiments- however my family has a history of weak legiments. I'm not really sure how to distinguish a ligiment issue vrs tension or muscle impengment. Hopefully starting from breaking this down to the fundamental parts helps

I agree with others who wrote praises below. I fell and tore my humerus. It was down 2", completely out of its socket. I have been trying to figure out what my best course of action is - total reverse shoulder replacement surgery, and/or continued physical therapy which, to my amazement, has begun to pull my humerus back into position. It helps a lot to be able to see how the shoulder is made and how it works. Thank you so much Dr. Sechrest, and thanks to the animator(s) who created this excellent video.

Just imagine, now, if we could somehow zoom in, and in, and in, until we could knife through the layers and see muscles, with fibres, then blood vessels, then down to individual cells, all separate, on their own layer with their own audio. One day it will be this way-and perhaps it will be able to be projected in 3D right in front of you, a-la Princess Leia. But this is an amazing start-many thanks for this! I’m recovering from an AC separation. This was a helpful start in understanding how my shoulder will eventually regain function without that joint for stability.
If you happen to have a sore in on your shoulder that isn't going a way after massages and that is sapping the strength of your arm or limiting your range of motion, it's a knot that is being clinched/caught up by your shoulder blade and one of your ribs. Release the knot by finding the one rib on your chest that feels out of place or not in uniform with the rest of your ribs, and push it with your other hand, take a deep breath and hold, while moving the injured side of your arm up and down side ways. I learned this on yt and it took 3 seconds to fix what I have had for almost a year and spent so much money on.
This animation tutorial is quite excellent. This helps understand the complex anatomy of the shoulder that most medical students would hate to learn in normal textbooks. Thank you Dr. Sechrest!

The surgeon who had been training the trainee surgeon refused to examine me after the operation and informed me there was nothing more they could do. I was forced to see a second surgeon. He tried to repair the tendons and rotator cup tear but was unable to repair them which left me with a shoulder I cannot use. It has taken me many years to find a surgeon who will help me. I’m currently dealing with possible tendinitis or burtitis in my shoulder. This really helped me understand all the pieces of my shoulder and where my problems may lay. A++ presentation!
I had tendonitis! How is ur shoulder?
@@user-ok8bh3ce3f shoulder is better now. I was able to avoid surgery by getting steroid shots into my shoulder and going to physical therapy. I also had bursitis, and something else dealing with the head of my clavicle bone. Can’t remember what it was called at this moment. I basically had to lower my work load on the shoulder and do a LOT of stretching.
@@CortezJacob oh wow sounds like you had a journey!!
really very good , Gift given by GOD....Learning with believe in Nature attitude.... great view for medical students!
The only thing given by the imaginary person god is a panacea for people who cannot handle reality.
Thank you for the video, I actually find This truly fascinating for a few different reasons. I have broken my left collarbone, shattered the right collarbone, and broke my right shoulder blade before. Videos like this that explain the many different parts and their functions are very interesting. Definitely thank you for the content

Thank-you for this excellent and informative video. I've just had humeral head replacement surgery in Japan following a bicycle accident. I know I have many months of rehab ahead and I hope, within time, that I can get most of my shoulder mobility and strength back again... Thank you again for this great video which helps me better understand my injury 🙏
Is it ok if I can move my arm bone in and out
Thanks so much. They don't stress learning the nerves as much as the muscles in massage school. I am studying the shoulder on my own and it was good to see how nerves can become impinged.
And that's how we know there is a God
I totally credit you for my OSCE mark!! thank you so much for this simple yet comprehensive! animation video
When I watch this I start to believe in God, who is the greatest and the supreme engineer.❤

It becomes more than obvious that a structure like this and the rest of the human body did not develop thru a series of accidents.
My medical studies made me believe in a creator
Semper Fi freewill you dangus, what kind of loving God forces his creations to obey him. He gave us the choice, and we chose to sin instead of follow God. That's why we degenerate and die, for the wages of sin is death. God gave us a way out though because he loved us, Jesus became the sacrifice to attone for our sins by the spilling of his blood. That gift is free, you can either choose to accept the gift or refuse it
Thank you for making this available. I watched it in class and it was a great tool to understanding to me.
