I had pain in the last two tests, so seems like AC Joint disfunction. Question: could side-sleeping cause AC joint disfunction? Especially since the way I have my bottom arm when side sleeping has lots of internal rotation?
I’m having a sharp pain in the horizontal adduction test. A few weeks a ago I think I tore something . I can’t even bench press a plate with my right side . Also very hard for me to feel my tricep on that same side . Help me !

distracting the glenohumeral joint can reproduce pain in a supraspinatus tendinopathy (tendinitis is an old term that is being phased out because we are finding there isn't much inflammation in tendon injuries). The painful arc test is positive around 60-120 degrees (in most literature) of shoulder abduction and not 45. Test is also performed with thumbs pointing up. This is why I never encourage patients to search google and youtube for self test or exercises, unless referenced from published research. Sorry if I come off as a prick but just making you a better coach :)
Or it could be trigger points in the teres minor, major or infraspinatus. These refer pain to lateral and front delets and can make elevating shoulder into positions shown painful and make sudden movements have a sharp intense pain. I went to several physios randall of them look for some type of "impingement". None of them helped much. Then I pulled out my trigger therapy manual and did self massage on the muscles I mentioned and got in 5 mins what physio couldn't achieve in months. All without spending money on physios. Simply your muscles may have knots from over use or a single overload and they need to be released. Get a ball, rubber with some give, find the spots by leaning into ball against a wall. I hadn't done pushups or benched in months, 5 mins of this and I could push up and bench. Still feeling better days later. But if knots are gnarly theyll need a little work daily or every other day. I'm not a therapist, just someone with plenty of injuries that feel like joint issues that fixed them with trigger point therapy. It could as described in the vid but investigate trigger points as it can be done by yourself easily and cheap and gets fast results IF it's the issue or part of the issue.

Hey Eric I have been experiencing right shoulder pain for like 7 months . I did your tests and I didn't really feel any pain. My shoulder pain occurs mostly in this exercises: lateral rises, triceps cable pulldown, push ups, bench press . I feel the pain in the area between my shoulder and my triceps. It can be sharp pain for a moment when I do sudden moves with my hand .
BROOO you described precisely what I have been going through. Could you please tell me if you’ve gotten any better or what you did or anything. I’ve taken a 1 month break from the gym and it’s still exactly how you described sharp pain when doing sudden movements especially when doing bench press etc
Finally what I was looking for. I had a grade 2 ac separation injury 15 months ago. Recovered and finally my shoulder felt stronger than before the injury. A week ago as I was doing a chopping motion on a heavy bag my shoulder felt a little sore, that was followed by popping, restricted movment, pain and weaknesses in my arm. My shoulder felt impinged. This video indicates impingement. What is the best exercise and stretches to remedy this. Thank you.
how many months rest needed ? im feeling pain in shoulder ,think that i got injured while doing shoulder workout ,now feeling pain for even 5kg shoulder wourkout on left shoudler. now unable to do it
Thanks for this. While playing baseball I dove with my left arm fully outstretched landing with full body weight. Felt pain and weakness immediately. Can't even hold a plate at work. Hi Eric! Due to a fall on a hiking trail to I have shoulder discomfort. Received MRI results today. Right shoulder: Supraspinatus and infraspinatus tendon, full thickness tear with tendon retraction to level of the AC joint. Left shoulder: Supraspinatus tendon-full tear with retraction to level of AC joint. Infraspinatus -full thickness
Left shoulder- full thickness tear with tendon retraction to level of distral clavicle. Can this heal without surgery? Can raise my right arm over my shoulder with slight pain. Can only raise left arm to shoulder level.

Hi Eric! Thank you for these very helpful videos! After doing the tests, I'm still not certain what I've got - painful arc test in the scapular plane and bad cop tests were both negative, but I had pain in the Hawkins test AND the abduction test in the top position! Does this mean I have a little of both impingement and AC joint dysfunction, or maybe something completely different?
It's likely a combination of the two. Check out these articles: www.precisionmovement.coach/shoulder-impingement-stretches/ and www.precisionmovement.coach/sprained-ac-joint/
Many thanks for this video. I was convinced after the first 2 exercises I had impingement as they were very painful. On exercise 2. I can't raise my arm past 45 degrees. But then I also found exercises 3 and 4 very painful also. For exercise 3 I cannot even get my arm anywhere near horizontal without supporting it with my good arm. So I am a bit confused.
No need to be confused...you likely have a combination of the issues. Check out these articles next: www.precisionmovement.coach/shoulder-impingement-stretches/ www.precisionmovement.coach/sprained-ac-joint/
Hello Eric, thank you for the awesome video. Thanks to your instructions I was able to identify that my shoulder has some degree of AC Joint dysfunction. I've been working out for more than 12 years with roughly 85% of attendance. Three weeks ago, I started practicing calisthenics because I no longer feel satisfaction out of weightlifting and realized I wouldn't be making progressing due to lack of mobility abd pain in my shoulder. They were preventing me to do even the beginner exercises. I then started doing some physiotherapy exercises for scapula stabilization. It's been two weeks that I started and they are really improving the shoulders mobility and at times reducing even pain. I'm really enjoying doing calisthenics exercises but I am concern with those exercises that may be counterproductive for the shoulder recovery. Do you have any recommendation as to what calisthenics exercise I should and shouldn't be doing? I'm often using the rings :) Thank you!
Thanks for the kind words and for following along. I would take a break from any activities that you cannot do pain free until you address the root cause of your issue. Start here: www.precisionmovement.coach/sprained-ac-joint/ And consider this program: www.precisionmovement.coach/get-shoulder-control
Man thank you so much for this video, I've had a shoulder injury for about 3 weeks now from weightlifting, and looked at a bunch of self diagnosis videos none helped me until i found this one, now I know I have ac joint dysfunction
Hey Eric! I didn't experience any sort of particular pinching pain in any of the exercises. I feel a sort of dull soreness. I had gotten injured about 4 months ago. I would have this dull pain in my left shoulder whenever I'd do side laterals and overhead press. It started happening after I'd started doing bench dips and heavy side lateral raises. I've given myself 4 months to heal, but it just isn't going away, the intensity of the dull pain has somewhat decreased I guess. I don't feel that pinching pain. It just feels like there's that sort of dull soreness. Please help. 🙏🏻
Thank you so much. Definitely an AC joint disorder. I cut out all of my weight bearing activities for more than a month now and seeing no improvement. Now, hoping site exercises will be the key to ending this miserable pain.

Here are your next stops. Try out both sets of exercises: www.precisionmovement.coach/shoulder-impingement-stretches/ www.precisionmovement.coach/sprained-ac-joint/
First off, thanks for making and sharing this video. Secondly, while trying out these tests I noticed that I didn't experience pain, per se, but I did note mobility issues that were in line with the areas of AC joint dysfunction. At some points of the tests, a mild discomfort bordering to what could be described as pain would emerge. I've had mobility issues in my left shoulder area for many years and it's never really been addressed. Is it possible that it's due to some injury (or something) that has led to ACJD after being left untreated, or is it more likely to be something else? Would you suggest I still follow the instructions and recommendations found in your link? To clarify: I have mentioned this to doctors, physiotherapists, gym coaches and none have taken this seriously (which could be a result of me then having other, more pressing, issues, of course) so I haven't either, even though it does prevent me from performing certain types of movement and exercises.
I take your seriously. Check out the material in both of these articles next: www.precisionmovement.coach/shoulder-impingement-stretches/ and www.precisionmovement.coach/sprained-ac-joint/

Hey Eric
I have been experiencing right shoulder pain for like 7 months .

I’ve taken a 1 month break from the gym and it’s still exactly how you described sharp pain when doing sudden movements especially when doing bench press etc
i have the exact same problem
Having visited pro therapists for months (with no effect) this is finally a clear and simple tests to determine what the issue is.
So glad that it helped!
You are an amazing professional! I just can't thank you enough for all your videos. They really are life changing!
Much appreciated!

You're welcome!
Thanks for this. While playing baseball I dove with my left arm fully outstretched landing with full body weight. Felt pain and weakness immediately. Can't even hold a plate at work. Pain radiates down my arm. After doing these test (first 3 caused pain) bad cop test zero pain. Seems like a trip to the doctor is in order lol.
I'm so sorry this happened!! Sounds terrible. Did you manage to recover?🤞🤞

This video really helped to clarify what I have, initially I thought it was impingement, but after the tests it looks more like an AC joint issue. Excellent video!

@@PrecisionMovementCoach Great video- its to the point, however one gap. What does it mean with pain/discomfort from 0-35 degrees in the painful arc test? The discomfort/pain goes away almost completely when I get past 35 degrees.. thanks in advance.. just looking for a lead..

Thanks for your videos man, last month im suffering shoulder pain but thanks to u its finally recovered 🥰🥰

Yay!
Check out these articles: www.precisionmovement.coach/shoulder-impingement-stretches/
and
www.precisionmovement.coach/sprained-ac-joint/
same!
Check out these articles next:

I'm often using the rings :)
Thank you!
Thanks for the kind words and for following along.

In the first two exercises I feel that dull soreness though(little intensity). In the last two not so much.

@@PrecisionMovementCoach Thank you so much sir, its my pleasure that you liked my comment and replied to it. i cannot believe.
love from India...

Thank you! This finally gives me an answer, in accordance to a MRI finding. It’s been a little over 3 years since my injury which at that time I couldn’t move or extend my arm in anyway. PT was worthless and recently an injection which didn’t help. I believe that if I had purchased a sling/brace back then this would have healed and I wouldn’t still be in pain 3 years later. I'm glad that you appreciate the material.
Bicep Tendinitis/Rounded Shoulders is a cause of shoulder pain in anyone who suffers from poor posture. I would say most people suffer from poor posture in the world we live in today. So be sure to check your posture if you're slouching/ rounding of shoulders and actively work on keeping that proper posture throughout the day!
Great advice.
