  • There are stigmas surrounding OCD and other mental ailments. Mikayla wants to eliminate these stigmas and prove that there is nothing to be ashamed about. She shares her story with OCD and encourages others with similar issues to speak up and get help.
Mikayla Davic is a freshman at Baldwin High School. She was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania along with her four siblings. She loves to write, act, and read. She has written and directed two musicals in the past two years, raising over $16,000 for Make-A-Wish® and plans to continue to write and direct a show each year until she graduates with a goal of over $50,000 raised. She wants a career in the film industry as a screenwriter, director, and actress. Her top college choices include New York University, University of California Los Angeles, and University of Southern California.

Naming it is really a good way.
I had pretty terrible OCD. I dont know how severe it is as I dont know to what degree OCD hits other people. But, its almost gone and non existent today. The only things left is perfectionism and performance anxiety, which itself is the root cause of OCD. I aim to get rid of fear and perfectionism by accepting that Chaos is the way of nature. Everything starts from chaos and its good and even better and pragmatic to start ur work from chaos

Its hard, and you have to be a bit of a masochist and be prepared to take some anxiety, but it does work.
ERP is the best strategy I've found in 54 years. Dont expect a cure, but do expect to be able to control it rather than it controlling you.

As a mom with OCD. I can’t help but cry hearing the story of her mother. What a gift her mother gave her. Coming to her child in non-judgment and letting her know they’d get through it together. What a gift.

@@swagatabiswas4737 hey :) didn't expect this to get a reply six years later - I don't have a proper group put together and don't remember which videos I was referring to, but if descriptions and experiences of OCD resonate with you, I'd really really recommend seeing if you can get a referral to see a psychiatrist or psychologist for an assessment. I was diagnosed with OCD in 2020 and was able to do Exposure Response Prevention (ERP) treatment over video call during the pandemic, and it helped so much with making my symptoms manageable for the first time. not every treatment works for everybody, but it doesn't have to be however hard it is right now

The best way to fully get over OCD is to undergo exposure and response therapy with a trained professional. It's tough, but is the best way to properly get rid of your OCD in a sustainable way.
