November of 1971 I'm 18 still living at home, it's Saturday, Dad expects help in the yard but I convince Mom that I'm sick and need to spend the day in my room. I drop acid and spend the day (or a lifetime on the floor) between my stereo speakers and that was first time I heard Echoes and it became a part of me. Now at 67 the music is still just as devastating as ever. Rodrigo y Gabriela, you've made an old man cry tears of joy. Soul to Soul, much love, Jeff
Funny that ...I was sixteen , just out of school , did the same thing...and rarely looked back. So now at 65 , I still get the same buzz hearing this. Amazing. Such a great version of this masterpiece. Thank you ! Dave
It's 1971 and I'm 5...And we're all old according to today's generation!! But I still feel young and that's all that matters and this music still takes me back.
I had a similar experience at 15, and spent a good two hours of my trip listening, then playing along with, Echoes, and the entire Meddle album really. It’s still the one I return to most often.
This has got to be one of the most ambitious covers I've ever seen attempted, let alone by a guitar duo. Anybody expecting a perfect, note-for-note duplication of Floyd's original composition knows nothing about recording technology. Two 6-string guitars cannot possibly reproduce the efforts of a multi-tracked 4-piece band that honed the tracks for months in a rehearsal space. But the spirit of the composition certainly is there, and I heartily recommend this stellar interpretation! Thank you, R&R! We love you!
If you like ambitious covers, check out a RUclipsr called vkgoeswild, her Master of Puppets cover on grand piano is amazing, so is she. Love these guys, too. Agree. Great cover, very in the spirit of the original.
It is a beautiful *interpretation* of the PF original. Have you ever heard Beethoven played on instruments actually available to orchestras of his time? It's quite different.
As a lifelong Floyd fan (since 1972) I used to think their more out-there and symphonic works could never be covered. I'm happy to have been proven wrong in so many ways, not least because it shows that their music lives on and continues to inspire new generations. I never imagined I'd hear Echoes (my all-time favourite track) performed flamenco style, but the two of you have achieved this in a way that honours the original work and takes it to new places. Thank you, and all the best for your future endeavours.
The first time I heard of Rodrigo y Gabriela they were the opener for Gomez at the Warfield. The lighting guy I was working with found out I play classical guitar, and he suggested I check out their opening act. He said they were a smoking duo that I didn't wanna miss. Come showtime, I skeptically went out into the house to see what he was talking about. At that time there were maybe 50 people in the whole theater. After they finished their first tune, nobody in the audience applauded right away; everyone just stood there with their jaws on the ground in total awe of what they had just seen. It took me a minute to wrap my head around what I had just seen. Needless to say, my mind was blown. I still feel like I owe that lighting guy something for introducing me to them because if he hadn't said anything I would've just slept through their set like I normally do.
I am sitting in a dirt trucker’s parking lot on the Colorado River across from the casinos in Laughlin NV thinking about a good sunset playlist for later this evening. I think I need to set aside 20 minutes for this one.
Meddle - a vastly underrated album which I was lucky enough to hear in preview and to introduce the band! I messed the intro up as I thought it was roadies behind me and Gilmour had to gently tell me they were ready ... but they played a blinder! Still probably one of my top Floyd albums. I think side one of Atom Heart Mother is also neglected.
Totally agree! People sleep on AHM. It is an underrated gem of an album, imo. Meddle may very well be my favorite Floyd album despite having my least favorite song in their catalog on it. lol
@@Tacotac64 Haha, yeah. San Tropez. I appreciate it for what it is, I guess. It's just such a stark departure. Seamus too, but Seamus makes me laugh in a good way.

Mind blowing song. Their version was a really heavy lift, and they prevailed. Thanks a lot for sharing. Great version and performance of this Pink Floyd classic. Best wishes, Andi 🎸🕊
Magnifique, bravo ! Tellement bien fait ! Ça me rappelle mon adolescence et ma jeunesse dans les années 1960 et 1970 ! Nous écoutions beaucoup Pink Floyd ! ;-) Merci !
This cover is probably one of the songs I love the most ! Thanks for (re)creating this long and progressive rock masterpiece ♥
Take care, and thanks for sharing your music so often with these Lumbini sessions, it helps a lot during the hard times we're living ;-)
