  • This is an early storyboard for Bioshock 2 in which the soon to be protagonist Delta , “Johnny topside” stumbles upon the city of Rapture. You can get this by successfully finishing all the missions in the Protector trials dlc.
This scene and the Bioshock franchise is owned by 2K Games and Irrational games not me!

As much as I’d’ve loved to see what Delta really looked like before finding Rapture, I think that part of the profundity of his character stems from his anonymity, and ever showing it without the proper setup would just diminish the effects of his backstory.
Rapture took everything from him, but the one thing in particular that the story kept pulling focus back to was his identity. Even before he became a Big Daddy, he was nobody - no one ever knew his real name and just called him by the celebrity nickname that he never even chose. From the beginning he was defined by his use to others and how he was seen in the eyes of his fellows, not by who he actually was. Then Ryan thought he was a spy - another identity confusion - and threw him into a vicious cycle of experimentation and exploitation that eventually ended with his admittance into and ultimate erasure under the Protector Program. He was an experiment to the scientists who tested their plasmids on him, a nameless goon to the audience who watched him fight for his life for their own entertainment, a conveniently-absent donor father to Sophia Lamb, and then finally he just became Subject Delta: a voiceless, faceless machine, completely stripped of his identity and free will and doomed to spend the rest of his life protecting a kid that only knew him through the deluded lens of the same dehumanizing procedure that had stolen him away.
But then Eleanor really loved him. Really, truly loved the face behind the glass, not just as the protector that she was conditioned to follow but as a father who she’d chosen to adore all on her own. She loved him enough to spend years trying bring him back from the dead and trust him - not just as a guardian, but as a person - to come and rescue her once she succeeded. Eleanor was the first person to see Delta as a real human being after years of dehumanization and torment, looking beyond his name and his past and trusting the person he is underneath all that. Even if he kills every person in Rapture, Eleanor will still follow his example, still call him father and have faith that he knows what’s best for her.
Sinclair helped to open his eyes, too. Even though their history was far from spotless, Sinclair was the first one to openly recognize his autonomy and offer him any kind of choice after his transformation and ultimate resurrection. Sinclair lets Delta choose who to kill and who to spare, gives him options and trusts his judgement - again, for the first time in a lifetime - not based on programming or with the expectation of acquiescence, but with genuine trust in his decisionmaking.
Even in small ways like the nicknames your trio of allies give you - Sport, Herr Delta, Father (not ‘Daddy’ like she’d been programmed to say), Chief, Son - the people Delta chooses to trust are the ones who see him as a human being underneath all that standard-issue Alpha Series armor. To Lamb, he’s an irritant standing between her and her life’s work. To the Rapture Family, he’s a heretic to be hug for whatever crimes their leader decides he is guilty of. But in the eyes of Eleanor, Tenenbaum, and Sinclair, he was the dictator of his own identity, and they gave him the chance to prove that. To them, he’s not just another experiment, not just one out of the countless interchangeable Big Daddies waiting to die for their Little Sisters, not just one more nameless criminal on the Alpha Series checklist to be imprisoned and erased from existence, not even just the public’s beloved Johnny Topside, forgotten just as quickly as he rose to fame - he was, finally, a real human being again.
Subject Delta’s story is all about the loss and reclamation of a person’s identity, and the part of it that hits the hardest is that - even though there were the scarce few who let him decide who he was for himself - the people who took it from him won. We don’t know his name; we’ve never seen his face; we’ve never even heard him speak a word that wasn’t garbled by the things they did to him. Whoever Delta was is gone, and we will never see that person again. Instead, we must let him exist independent of his history and define his character through his actions in the present. That’s the kicker of his narrative: it doesn’t matter who Johnny Topside was. Subject Delta has rebuilt the identity that Rapture stole from him through his actions in-game, and no matter who or what he used to be, the person we played as is who he is now, and - finally - it’s a man of his own making.
I love subject delta ok he deserves to be happy

I see you are a man of culture as well. Seriously tho, I 100% agree. Delta deserves to b happy and his anonymity adds to his mystery and charm. Like, he could’ve been a spy, a random diver, anything, but in the end he was still a hella good dad to Eleanor (until you decide which route you take, I always take the good dad endings cuz im a softie :’3 )

This should've been used as a kinda flashback sequence if not an opening.

    • @tipsyviewer1495
      @tipsyviewer1495 6 лет назад +20

Anigurl28 Also the symbolism and “reveals” would make more sense.
      tl;dr
•You going down into the sea would bring back vibes of Bio1 to make the (reasonable) transition between 1 and 2 less jarring.
•This would also set up the water sequences better instead of throwing the first one at you.
•You starting out as a human and then becoming a big daddy in the actual game would feel more shocking, with making the game taking place 10 years after Bio1 a reveal, much more surprising.
•You waking up after that sequence would immediately put you on edge, making you feel confused, afraid, and more suspicious of characters you meet.
•Sofia Lamb would also seem more mysterious and ambiguous, and less like Stalin with boobs. Like another random character’s tape recorder you would find.
•You not knowing what she did to you/Delta, would also make you question your actions more and who’s side you’re really on, til the “twist”...
•You getting to know what she did to you/Delta and Eleanor would give you an immediate impact making everything you did feel justified (depending on the route who made) and give you a new found hatred for her. It would make the “ would you kindly” style images that flash at that moment feel earned. Plus, how Delta falls and pass out look basically the same to how you/“Johnny” fallen in the beginning, bringing thematic familiarity with added emotions thanks to context.
•The game’s opening should’ve been used as a flashback between you passing out for the second time and you waking up again to give more insight on that day. It being a flashback starting with the “ten years earlier” text would give a bigger picture on what happened that day. The stuff of you looking into the window to see your reflection, the music, and Eleanor’s echoing voice feel powerful after all you went through in the game. That would also give you brand new motivation to take Sofia down and get to the surface. Plus, would make it being a cutscene would feel more reasonable as something you already played, instead of what could’ve been the actual tutorial.
•Also, here’s something to think about. The game is basically about an individual, who’s humanity was taken from and turned into a cog for a system’s machine, both mentally and physically destroyed to become one. Now, has to fight through another system completely denouncing free will to both save people effected by the system (the little sisters and Eleanor) and slowly gain their own humanity back. The game already has this, but making the cut opening the actual opening, I would make the game much stronger.
I love BioShock 2, But I have to admit the story is flawed and just changing the intro would only fix most of the issues, but I do think it would help help game greatly and not make it seem as the black sheep of the BioShock franchise. I don’t think it would make Bio2 better then Bio1, but at least make it more welcomed in circles and overall have a more favorable legacy.
      Just My Opinion;)

Funny thing is that the opening sequence of BioShock 2 was going to be a FULLY playable flashback sequence (playing as Subject Delta w/Eleanor) taking place at the Kashmir Resturant on New Year's Eve 1958, just before the New Year's Riots & the Kashmir Bombing by Atlas's men. I think it would've been really cool and would've been better than what we got instead.

Besides, we've already been established to the underwater world of rapture. That's why it was a better idea to show they were underwater in the approved intro when Johnny was walking with Eleanor to splice adam

Tbf the odds of someone just stumbling across Rapture were incredibly low, especially at the time. Its located in one of the hardest places in the world to reach. Plus Ryan had spies and shit on the surface helping to keep it a secret. The weird part to me is how many people just happen to find it.
