Note for guys with Holley: someone told me you can use a 58x and 24x harness interchangeably, you just have to switch the A and C pins on the cam sensor or get an adapter harness. I have not done this personally but apparently it can be done
I just got off the phone with DIY in an attempt to get my harnesses swapped due to scoring a free get4 aluminum block. No luck there, so now I am here. Is everything still good with supplying 12v to the sensors?
Thanks for this video - I'm going to be switching from 24X to 58X on my Turbo LS 99 Mustang that is Microsquirted and these were exactly the details I need!
hey bro,, nice and real good info;;; you don't find this kind of information here on internet , i was getting ready to pull out my new engine i just installed , coz this problem , i am replacing my ls3 with an 5.3 l ls,, i did changed the front sensor h, from front to rear of engine and did not work, they told me i head to change the 24x to 58x but moto is under warranty , can u explain what to do with the plug you were showing on your video, do you get an other sensor or harness ? i have a 2008 corvette,, thx body,,,,!
Crank sensor modify the plug so it fits. Cam sensor needs the pins swapped or use an adapter harness that swaps it. It's all explained in the video man
@@papergatorzfedducca7998 you can use a Gen 3 crank and 24x sensor and use a 1x cam gear wheel on the front cause if it's a 07 I'm sure it has the cam sensor in the timing cover
@@BLITZERKING1 so I would need to put the gen 4 cam sprocket on the gen 3 crankshaft for the cam sensor in the front? And yes the cam sensor is in the front.
@@papergatorzfedducca7998 you would switch to a 24x crank or press a 24x reluctor wheel on you 58x crank. Then you need a gen 3 crank sensor and a 1x cam gear to install on the camshaft
Yes. Btw some 24x motors have a front 1x cam pickup on the cam gear, L33s for example. You need to match your 58x motor to a 4x cam gear and 24x motor to a 1x cam gear. The front mounted cam sensor is the same between 4x and 1x cam gear. My motor for example has a 58x crank reluctor wheel, 4x cam gear and a cam wiring harness adapter to swap the 24x cam sensor plug to a 58x cam sensor plug
Hey I appreciate your videos, I need help, I’m trying to swap an lq4 in place of my ls2 , in an 07 ss trailblazer, which has the 58x reluctor wheel , thanks appreciate any information you can provide.
@@jimjones4516 Your 07 trailblazer ss has the e67 ecu which is only capable of running a 58x engine and it is not possible to use a converter. Your only option is to change the reluctor wheel on the crankshaft which means removing the crankshaft from the block.

yep, Holley has video on it.

Yep. Been using it this way for over a year now with 0 issues at all
Now it's been 2 years lol Is it still good? I just fired my 6.2 up for the first time today and I used your trick. Fired up first try.
So you don’t need the box to convert gen 3 harness to gen 4 engine ?
@@brianleabo4692 no, not for megasquirt or Holley. On a stock ECU you would

No problem man. Thanks for watching
I have a question I’m trying to install a 04 5.3 into my 07 gmc pickup that has the reluctor wheel in the front how can I make this work?
Electricity works in the coil, but there is no spark in the spark plug
you changed a 24x harness to connect to 58x engine, can you use a 58x donor pcm? what work needs to be done at the other end of the harness?
I don't know much about the stock PCM stuff but I'm pretty sure the 24x and 58x ecus have different ECU connectors
It's just a difference of voltage 0.5 and 12 volt on the cam and crank sensors
Some sources say you need to step the voltage down from 12v to 5v but with megasquirt at least you don't
Is the signal output 5 volts? If not, how long do you think it will run?
It's not. I've been using it this way for a couple years now and it works fine
Thanks for the tech tip!

The 24x and 58x sensors take a different plug. Or do what I did and just cut the keyway on the plug so it'll fit
