For the price BSA want for this rifle the issues with the barrel, chambering and pellet probe are appalling! Its out of the box accuracy is a joke. Some years ago I bought a new FAC R10SE and it was equally as bad as well as having a "sticky" bolt and an inconsistent regulator. It went back to BSA and came back no better. The only thing they appeared to have done was pump a load of silicon grease around the bolt. Swapped if for a AA S510 (FAC) for around the same price which was streets ahead in both accuracy and consistency without any adjustment or modification. I also have a cheap Chinese sub 12 Snowpeak P35 which cost less than half the R12 and out of the box was, and still is, far better than this. If this is the standard of workmanship BSA are selling for £1,200 then the answer to the question is a resounding NO, you should not buy one. Would you buy a new car and expect to have to take it to a workshop and modify it just to get the engine to run properly? I think not!

IMO the manufacturer must be made aware of ANY issue because at the end of the day it is ultimately their neck on the chopping block if not corrected.Fix it yourself or send it back….either way they must be made aware of all issues or they will continue to happen.🤷‍♂️😉

Great sum up and very fair final review.
Quality Assurance must be shocking as BSA for this to pass and be shipped out.
It’s absolutely put me off and whilst I’m reasonably capable, there’s no way I could have carried out the work that you have.

Great video Geoff I am 61 nearly and have been shooting air guns all of my life. I remember the days when I was about 10 years old and I used to borrow my uncles BSA Airsporter S. I used to practice and practice with it and I used to knock the heads of match sticks at the end of our 30yard plus garden. I loved that gun. So when the R12 , first came out , I hankered back to the old days with that Airsporter. I brought the R12 , thinking that this would be equally as brilliant as that old gun. My oh my, where do I start. Leaks , inaccurate , magazines didn’t work properly plus a recall due to potentially faulty regulators. What a terrible and negative experience I had with this gun. Total 💩. I am now the proud owner of a BRK Ghost . Was so impressed I’ve got two limited editions. BSA , you really do need to pull your socks up and take a leaf out of other quality manufacturers books. It’s a bit like being bitten by a rabid dog . You do not want to go there again.

Been another interesting series to follow along. I do like the more classic looking rifles and the carbon fibre shroud, moderator and bottle you installed do enhance the look considerably for me. Whilst I agree that the picatinny rail is the way forward, I do prefer the shape of the dovetail rail for this type of rifle, although why BSA have to stick to their dreaded 13mm, must be one of those its always been like that so that is how it will stay. 😕. Thanks for the videos on this one, look forward to the next.

A gorgeous looking rifle and your engineering skills made the rifle what it should have been when it came out of the factory. I’ve always had a soft spot for BSA on account of the Airsporter I had as a teenager in the 60’s but then the HW35 appeared on the scene and German engineering put everything else in the shade. A few years ago I bought a new BSA and had the legendary John Bowkett “blue print” it as an FAC in .177 - it was an awesome performer after he worked on it but I keep hearing stories of quality control issues and only a few days ago a chap walked into my usual gun shop with exactly this model - it had magazine issues but this guy, who it transpired was a retired engineer, explained with the aid of a micrometer exactly what the failings were. What a pity that BSA is not synonymous with engineering execellence or at least adequate QC to make sure these guns never leave the factory🤷‍♂️.

Thanks again for a great set of videos, views, adjustments and opinions on the R12. I do hope BSA, along with other manufacturers whose rifles you purchase, listen, observe and learn going forward, especially when you highlight so clearly key discrepancies, be they mechanical or cosmetic. Sometimes it’s better for the manufacturer to swallow their pride and admit things could’ve been done better and ensure they are done so in the future. Not doing so may put them out of favour, or worse still, business, as someone else will come along and do it better.
Your videos may sway some people, but for now I’ve decided to I’m stick with my R12. Maybe I was a bit luckier out of the box. Thanks once again 👍

stunning work mate . think some of the mods should be from the factory in my opinion but of course it’s how i like a rifle to look not every one’s cup of tea . you have to take your hat off to the surplus store there customer service is second to none . all my dealings with them they really do look for a solution. i thought my red wolf was slightly over powered and straight away they said bring it back and we will sort it out. it wasn’t next time i tested it i realised i had set the pellet weight wrong on the crono 😵‍💫😵‍💫 rookie mistake

    Hello Sir,
I enjoyed your video and listening to you very much. Thank you. To me, you are a genius in what you do, make and alter to improve overall function, and performance.
If I may speak about the steel and carbon fibre bottles, please? The rifle comes with the black, steel air bottle, though most people were annoyed the rifle hadn't been fitted with a carbon fibre version.
I understand the carbon fibre bottles have a lifespan, so they will need to be renewed every so often. As I understand, the steel bottles will generally last indefinitely.
I'm not sure about specific costs, though the carbon fibre bottles are quite a few pounds. They offer a an improved shot count, and I would say look much better.
However, the steel bottles have a fair shot count, and to me, they look very well.
With great respect, I think there'll be people that look at the cost of a new carbon fibre bottle, then decide to stay with what they have. I haven't decided yet, though I don't like the idea of the carbon fibre air bottle having a lifespan at that price.
All that said, I absolutely love my BSA R12 CLX PRO. It's just fantastic with absolutely no issues what so ever. Thank you.

  • @paulkillington5089
    @paulkillington5089 8 месяцев назад +1

Hi there, first of all can i say how impressive your skills are ive followed the series and waited for the next at each time. I own an R12 CLX pro and brought it just after you had released your second vid. I was able to shoot one at my club and i really liked it as a package. For me while can agree with several of your points as a rifle it is generally a fine piece of kit. Yes the early releases required a recall to BSA to resolve the Mag issue, Yes it may have a lot of AT (but as i send my kit away for service that isnt a concern to me) the carbon bottle wasn't a dealbreaker for me either as I'm not keen on them.
The rail size is in my book the biggest problem with the BSA; and am having it tuned at a well known outlet which will rectify many of the points you do raise.
Unfortunately you got a "wrong-un" and yes with your barrel, it probably shouldn't of got past QC, and I'm sure given the chance a replacement would do very well. Out of the box. Mine shoots fine (and will i hope be even smoother and better when i get it back) as do those ive used at my club. Ive also replaced the BSA shroud and mod with a Hugget set which really tones it down even more, but perhaps not as much as yours.
Yes put modern Pic rails on it and it would of ticked every box but there are pic rail converters out there to fit BSAs rail size (and they are well made too)
Great to see a totally honest and non biased review here tho makes a change.

A rifle costing that sort of money shouldn't leave the factory like that, where's the quality control,,and altering and changing things like you did should not be necessary,,BSA have gone downhill over the years and you see it on all the forums with people having problems with a lot of their rifles, not acceptable at all in my eyes.

I had the R10 on its so called MK3 Regulator and was still rubbish, even after pitting in a HUMA AIR reg it still was not much cop, lovely looking rifle but looks are not what you buy them for in the long run. Stay away from them. Not worth the money and you will have to spend money on them again trying to get them right.

Pains me to say it but don’t? for the money you could be a really good air arms s510 ultimate sporter or the S500 HFT , probably the best mid range priced air rifle on the market, ps I’ve been shooting bsa rifles since I was 10 years old 70 now but still hitting 250 17xs couldn’t do that with this bsa , it’s a 10 pence pice rifle at 30 Yards , ok for rats or pigeons, even after a good tune it will not get better ❤️‍🩹 shame it looks great
