He doesn’t play winning basketball at the highest level and it shows. He’s good at dropping 30-40 in January against the hornets and wizards but when defenses get serious and double him and scheme around him he’s incapable of adjusting. He’s a great player but not tip top tier and can’t be a 1 option.
I believe he uses his injury condition to duck good teams and then plays against bottom feeders to pad his stats. Same as Lebron at this stage of his career. Difference is that Lebron is 40, and Embiid is 30.

It's a little of both. His style of play is *extremely* NBA-centric & does not translate to FIBA whatsoever. He makes his living having the ball for 6-8 seconds per possession and consistently leads the league in free throw attempts. He's probably the biggest offensive flopper not named Harden I'm NBA history. Seriously, I have NEVER seen a player fall on his a$$ that many times, every single game, like Embiid. When you translate that style of play to FIBA - a smaller court with exponentially less spacing, far more physical with far less fouls called, not to mention being the 3rd or 4th offensive option on the court, it's just an all around TERRIBLE fit. With that being said, though, you're 100% right about France. Wemby & Gobert are the reason he's on this team. And I believe Kerr is starting him bc he knows his ego/attitude/maturity won't be able to handle coming off the bench & he'll mentally check-out. And when they actually need him in the knockout game vs France, Embiid wont be ready & won't care. Which is a major indictment of his character tbh, but I get it. Especially considering AD could get an Olympics-ending injury at literally any moment. And Kerr also knows they should/will beat Serbia & Sudan playing Robin Lopez at center, so its just his way of keeping Embiid engaged. FIBA basketball is just a *horrible* fit for his style of play, pure and simple. And if we're being super honest, he is a bit overrated in the NBA as well. He's a Stat monster, but every April-May when the game gets 10x more physical and the refs start to bite their whistle, he either disappears or gets hurt. I do agree AM hoops uses players for clips and Embiid is overhated though he has not been playing well and I smell some copium. Anyways we will see in the next few games and if USA play France that game will be important for Embiid where he would need to play well and step up. This is the same story as the Paolo Banchero fiasco in last year's World Cup. He really wanted to play for Italy but final moments in and he changed his mind and played for USA, stabbing Italy at the back, Joel is doing it the same thing, for a guy who actually grew up speaking French in a third world country, u would think he would play for france or cameroon but after getting that US citizenship to my surprise, u know he's not going to play for either country.
Embiid is a front runner. He’s not a guy who overcomes adversity on the basketball court. He’s not a player who is willing to play inside to maximize his efficiency especially when the opponent has an active rebounder and physical presence inside he wants no parts and when he does go inside he doesn’t always gather himself against length to finish strong, he gets off balance and he holds the ball too low making it easy to get stripped by smaller players swiping at the ball. He wants to be a finesse wing player who scores, he’s not interested in being an elite rebounder or rim protector. He literally can block a shot whenever he gives effort but he doesn’t even try on defense early in games he allows the opponent to get uncontested looks in the paint, is lazy boxing out on the defensive boards and sets screens and picks lazily but doesn’t roll. He’s a turnover machine when he’s pressured in late games situations. Keep in mind he’s been playing 4-5 games each every year against the Wizards, Detroit, Charlotte, Bulls, Nets, Hawks and Raptors. Where’s the competition as opposed to playing out west? He’s extremely selfish with the ball despite his high number of assists for a big and he’ll pad his scoring stats against the bottom feeders then take off for load management against tougher competition. He can’t get out of the 2nd round of the playoffs because he won’t do the little things on defense and share the ball with his teammates on offense. He’s a ball stopper who hinders the pace of the offense and calls for the ball outside of the perimeter which if you double him and bother his dribble he’s probably turning the ball over. Boston does it to him every time they need stops. I’m a die hard 76ers fan and I’ve watched him from day one. Don’t get me wrong the HOF talent and skill is there but the situational basketball IQ, lack of willingness in doing the dirty work and on again off again motor is why Embiid isn’t a champion and why he can’t get out of the 2nd round.

It's a little of both. His style of play is *extremely* NBA-centric & does not translate to FIBA whatsoever. He makes his living having the ball for 6-8 seconds per possession and consistently leads the league in free throw attempts. He's probably the biggest offensive flopper not named Harden I'm NBA history. Seriously, I have NEVER seen a player fall on his a$$ that many times, every single game, like Embiid. When you translate that style of play to FIBA - a smaller court with exponentially less spacing, far more physical with far less fouls called, not to mention being the 3rd or 4th offensive option on the court, it's just an all around TERRIBLE fit. With that being said, though, you're 100% right about France. Wemby & Gobert are the reason he's on this team. And I believe Kerr is starting him bc he knows his ego/attitude/maturity won't be able to handle coming off the bench & he'll mentally check-out. And when they actually need him in the knockout game vs France, Embiid wont be ready & won't care. Which is a major indictment of his character tbh, but I get it. Especially considering AD could get an Olympics-ending injury at literally any moment. And Kerr also knows they should/will beat Serbia & Sudan playing Robin Lopez at center, so its just his way of keeping Embiid engaged. FIBA basketball is just a *horrible* fit for his style of play, pure and simple. And if we're being super honest, he is a bit overrated in the NBA as well. He's a Stat monster, but every April-May when the game gets 10x more physical and the refs start to bite their whistle, he either disappears or gets hurt. This is the same story as the Paolo Banchero fiasco in last year's World Cup. He really wanted to play for Italy but final moments in and he changed his mind and played for USA, stabbing Italy at the back, Joel is doing it the same thing, for a guy who actually grew up speaking French in a third world country, u would think he would play for france or cameroon but after getting that US citizenship to my surprise, u know he's not going to play for either country.
Embiid is a front runner. He’s not a guy who overcomes adversity on the basketball court. He’s not a player who is willing to play inside to maximize his efficiency especially when the opponent has an active rebounder and physical presence inside he wants no parts and when he does go inside he doesn’t always gather himself against length to finish strong, he gets off balance and he holds the ball too low making it easy to get stripped by smaller players swiping at the ball. He wants to be a finesse wing player who scores, he’s not interested in being an elite rebounder or rim protector. He literally can block a shot whenever he gives effort but he doesn’t even try on defense early in games he allows the opponent to get uncontested looks in the paint, is lazy boxing out on the defensive boards and sets screens and picks lazily but doesn’t roll. He’s a turnover machine when he’s pressured in late games situations. Keep in mind he’s been playing 4-5 games each every year against the Wizards, Detroit, Charlotte, Bulls, Nets, Hawks and Raptors. Where’s the competition as opposed to playing out west? He’s extremely selfish with the ball despite his high number of assists for a big and he’ll pad his scoring stats against the bottom feeders then take off for load management against tougher competition. He can’t get out of the 2nd round of the playoffs because he won’t do the little things on defense and share the ball with his teammates on offense. He’s a ball stopper who hinders the pace of the offense and calls for the ball outside of the perimeter which if you double him and bother his dribble he’s probably turning the ball over. Boston does it to him every time they need stops. I’m a die hard 76ers fan and I’ve watched him from day one. Don’t get me wrong the HOF talent and skill is there but the situational basketball IQ, lack of willingness in doing the dirty work and on again off again motor is why Embiid isn’t a champion and why he can’t get out of the 2nd round.
