    There are many, I'm sure, useful videos about cleaning and maintaining a Coleman stove, but yours came right to the point of my problem and showed me concisely exactly what needed to be done. Thank you.

    For the inside of the stem - Remove the spring and use a 22 caliber copper cleaning brush . Carb cleaner = Yes . This will also clean a check valve on a lantern or stove .
    This is a great video and Thanks .

    People. Don't worry so much about what the parts may or may not be called. *It doesn't matter* unless you are looking for replacement parts. This is THE MOST important maintenance to know how to do with any model, liquid fuel Coleman stove. My only advice is to *not remove the end fitting too often* - clean the tube with it on if you can. The fitting is brass and eventually, after removing it a number of times, the softer threads will no longer be able to make a good seal. Ask any plumber about brass threaded fittings. There is no gasket material or plumber's tape that can withstand the heat this part achieves when in use. This causes a small amount of gas to blow back out of the "carburetor" (the large 'U' shaped tube in the back) directly into the flame. It's not dangerous but it will burn with a sooty, yellow flame and partially disrupts the flow through the carburetor. (yellow flame = carbon-monoxide and blackened pots) The other tip is; once you've cleaned the brass rod with '00' (or finer) steel wool, use a metal polish on it. That seems like over-kill, but the smoother the surface of this rod the less it clogs up while in use.

    Coleman stoves and lanterns, or I should specifically say...stoves and lanterns that run on Coleman fuel are VERY underrated in my opinion. They often seem overlooked in favor of their kerosene burning brothers.
    Coleman fuel is low octane, unleaded gasoline. Incredible amount of BTUs! Immense heat! Alcohol stoves can’t even compete in the BTU arena with these.
    Kerosene may have more BTUs, but kerosene is combustible (less volatile) so the stove generator of a kerosene stove requires several minutes of preheating. So you need 2 fuels and some spare time to get a kerosene stove in operation.
    Coleman fuel, aka white gas/camp fuel/gasoline is highly flammable so the generator doesn’t need prolonged preheating and it doesn’t require any other fuels to get started. Gimme a Coleman fuel stove over those other 2 options any day! It can take you 20 to 30 minutes to boil 2 cups of water over alcohol. I boiled 8 cups of refrigerated water in 6 minutes on a Coleman stove. 64 ounces from 37 degrees to 212 degrees in 6 minutes. That’s BTU city! For kerosene, add another 4 minutes to preheat the burner and another minute to get the pressure and flame up to the task. Not saying kerosene doesn’t burn hot, just that it takes longer to get it started. Also, in head-to-head testing with a CO meter, Coleman fuel emits less carbon monoxide than kerosene. It burns cleaner.

    Excellent video. I use my older camp stove everday (not dual fuel type) and I use regular gasoline in it. It carbons up faster but the price of 87 oct make more sense as this is my only cooking device. I have learned how to clean the needle and stem and is regular maintenance but have not been able to get the carbon buildup spring out for a thorough cleaning. Any suggestions would be appreciated, and thank you for a well done tutorial.

    the "stem" as you are calling it is actually called the Generator which, once hot, vaporizes the fuel.

    I have purchased a new in the box return from goodwill Coleman dual fuel I believe 424.When I try to pump it it seems like it is already pressurized.The pump will not push all the way in to lock .I tried twisting it counter clockwise and this helped however I can't release thumb pressure to twist it a couple of times to lock.Any suggestions never used these models before always a propane stove.Most appreciatively aaron

    • @TheNawrockSTAR
      @TheNawrockSTAR  7 лет назад +6

      I know EXACTLY what your issue is!
      You have to pull the knob out till it stops THEN you have to turn it to the LEFT. The valve is closed and you have to open it. It may require a very slight amount of turning force as it may be screwed semi tightly.
      Once you turn it to the left, you will need to keep turning till it stops - about 5 rotations. THEN you put your thumb over the little air hole, push the air in, release your thumb from the air hole and pull it back out.
      Do that 25-30 times and you will be golden!!!

      I have seen insects or spider webs in the manifold cause issues. The symptom would be liquid fuel in the stove.

    Hello. Thank you for the video. I love camping and love Coleman. After I got it all apart, in your video you say clean it with brake cleaner? Is that right? Do you just soak it? Or, how do you clean it with break cleaner?

    • @TheNawrockSTAR
      @TheNawrockSTAR  8 лет назад +1

      I sprayed brake cleaner into the barrel, and then I sprayed it on a paper towel and pushed that through the barrel with a straightened out coat hanger also. So, you don't have to soak it, but depending on how much build up there is, you may need spray and clean it a few times or more.

    I started wondering when not even a minute into the vid, this young fellow waves an open-end wrench and calls it a box wrench. Then he calls the generator tube (Coleman's term since forever) a "stem" like it's some sort of vegetable! Go ahead call Coleman Parts and ask for a "stem"? Perhaps there's some good content here but his loose terminology made me wanna bail...
