  • Lost a few hairs on ignition but I'm okay.
First time using it in the bush, it does the job.

I really liked it. For me the 424 (and all its predecessors) are the best camping stoves. They are tanks, real workhorses. Thanks for sharing!!!

You need to start it with the lever up until the generator gets hot, then you don't get all the sooty yellow flames. After a couple of minutes with it running a blue flame you can move it to the downwards position and then increase the power.

P.S. it's a PINT bottle. Although, 2 half pints will work.

This probably wont get viewed, but I'd like to share a thing or two. When filling my stove, I was bad about shorting the fuel or overfilling it. So I use a half pint plastic liquor bottle! It holds 12 oz and is lots easier to use than the fuel can. Also, I loike too purge fuel out of the system. This could involve upending the tank over your can, shaking it,etc which never gets all the fuel out. Now I just stick the gen tube into my bottleand open the valve! Fuel is contained with no mess or waste. The best part is probably illegal somewhere, but solves the problem I have with the push down & turn caps on fuel cans. The plastic cap on the whiskey bottle fits the fuel can perfectly! So no more struggling, + I can tell at a glance a new can from an old one. The bottles are flat, so I can store one in the stove along with funnel, a long lighter, and small pliers. Anyway I hope this helps somebody out, especially people who are new to using these stoves.

Alert! Do not use the liquor bottle caps on fuel cans. They LEAK.

The yellow flames indicate that the air flow (not the fuel flow) to the burner is partially blocked.
This can be caused by cobwebs in the pipe during prolonged storage or by corrosion from storage in a humid atmosphere or condensed moisture, which is often unavoidable.
In the end, you have the right clean blue flames.
So the air hose may be burned free

hi internet155, My Coleman used to start like this to combat that and get the blue flame quicker is to light the burner and then light the other burner so you have both hobs lit you will get a blue flame much quicker than you can put the lever down and then turn the other hob off
also when melting cheese on your burger use another saucepan upside down over the top of the burger and that will melt your cheese perfectly

The flame color looks not right , mine is pure blue after 5 second , you need to clean the generator

Your flame should be blue You need to wither clean or replace the generator or possibly clean out the fuel air mixer. A yellow flame is not burning efficiently.

You must like dry hamburgers if you keep smashing the juice out with your spatula.
