The problem with these cars is once you mod one thing you have to come back and mod/fix other things to keep it reliable. The 200k+ mile G8s are stock or have just a DoD delete.
I got mine in 2020 as well and tbh i haven’t had any issues the most was crank postipn sensor and a voluntary alternator upgrade and i too plan on doing a LSA blower 😎 my fav car i ever owned
I had a lifter tick till it warmed up on my 06 HSV GTS with the LS2 it turned it the plastic timing chain guide broken into little pieces and partly blocked the oil pick up. Cheers Pat 🇦🇺
If you’re having ticking on startup, oil pump might be getting tired. Put in a high pressure/flow pump. For trans temps, 6l80s naturally run high. Get an external cooler like a trucool 40k to bring those temps down a bunch.
Bro avoid LS7 lifters! Morel lifters are a great option if ya can't get Johnsons. The transmission part is odd haven't heard of that before in the 6l80 pre 14'. Btw got your incognito shirt and love it bro! Keep up that great work buddy!
I had an 08 GT years ago, loved that car too. It had work done prior to me only issue I had was the headliner and the belt kept jumping off, I ended up letting it go and regretting it. Today I’m happy to say I’m back this time in a 09 GXP M6. If anybody has info feel free to share with me. I plan on keeping this one for life hopefully.
Hey, I like your videos on the G8. I was thinking about buying one for my toy car. By the way, I noticed you have an XR4ti in the background. Will you ever restore it? I bought one brand new and absolutely loved it. You don't see them on the road at all.
@@lfldsLTL4R I support treating a g8 gt as a toy! I think it prefers that. I have 3 xr4ti! I do plan on restoring one and making videos about it. I just haven't gotten to it
When I bought my G8 it already had the DoD deleted, had a 6.6L stroker kit,and a TSP cam. 3 months later the lifter failed and caused a lot of damage. I went ahead and bought a crate LS3 and had that swapped in, no issues since then.
unfortunate brother, i owned a v6 g8 for a year, completing my ls2 swap on it currently, these cars are trashed by people and then get passed down to enthusiasts that respect the history and the car. thankfully mine is low miles so i havent had issues and keep up on my maintenance. also replaced my carrier bearing with a precision on from oreilys , we will see if it holds up. you mentioned the aftermarket ones that are poly urethane dont hold up which is surprising, i want to invest in a 1 piece aluminum driveshaft to eliminate carrier bearings. motor is fully built and everything in it is brand new without DOD so wont experience lifter tick or valve drop. only suspension ive done is a bmr rear sway bar and umi tie rods and toe arms for the rear with poly bushings, dont have any opinion on them i just installed them and i cant drive it till my engine is started. also noticed your brother works for donut badass even more badass when i found out you had a g8
Got myself a G8 09 and I'm loving it. I ran into the typical keys being stuck issue with the G8 or the Holden but it's been great other then that. No engine light history too
I got my G8 (Base) a year ago. Any sane person wouldn't have bought it because it had a grocery list of problems right off the lot. But, because of those problems, I was able to drive down the price for what the dealer wanted, which was $5000 originally, bought it for $3800. I knew nothing about G8's going in, but this car problems were: - The car ran extremely rough. Gas mileage terrible. - Carrier Bearing was dead. The thumping noise while accelerating was driving me insane - The car wouldn't start at times and was giving bad battery symptoms where all the cars electrical power would just die. Cost me lots of money trying to diagnose the problem, only to find out it was all due to bad grounds in two spots, one spot next to the battery in the trunk and under the hood - check engine light that I still haven't figured out but was able to get it off long enough to pass emissions -Overheating problems. Change the thermostat (which was a bitch and a half job), water pump, coolant temp sensor, radiator, and radiator fans. None of that worked. Turns out, a fuse was blown (don't know which one as I changed them all) which caused the fans not to work, thus vehicle overheating - Ticking noise, kinda like what you have in this video. I solved my problem by doing a few things: changing the valve cover gaskets (the seals were beyond dead, so oil was flooding the spark plug wells making it run very rough and consume oil quickly), lower and upper intake gaskets (which like the valve gaskets also looked like they haven't been changed since the car rolled off the line. Car has 155000 miles on it), and then a general tune up of replacing Spark Plugs, coil packs, engine oil, and air filter change. After that, I pour seafoam in gas tank and seafoam spray for the intake. Car has ran as smooth as butter since.
Your story is just like mine, got the DOD tick paid like 4K to fix with the LS7 cam and like 2 years later the tick came back. I ended up trading for a 2015 Cadillac CTS VSport 420 hp and 500 w/a tune, great car, awesome chassis and couldn’t be happier. My 2nd car is an 02 Trans Am WS6 M6 so I still have a V8 when I want it. Good luck 👍🏾
Most of those issues you have we also have here in Australia with all the sedan, wagon and Ute versions,,, she needs eyelids to give her that angry look, I run both a the HSV sedan and wagon versions, I think if America imported the HSV's and wagons they may have sold a bit better
I feel you on this, my brother and I cammed the car and Bent a rod, ate up the main bearings and my crank two weeks later during the tune and had to tear it all out and redo it smh 😂
@@car-nivores yessirr it’s just something about the design i had to😂 and no problem man keep up the good content 💪🏼 your strut/lowering springs video helped me out a lot with my coilover installation so i appreciate you!
200k orginal owner G8 and I will contest i'm glad I left it stock. never had a check engine light. carrier bearing went bad and suspension i rebuilt 3 times LCA and shocks due to when breaking the car would vibrate steering and body. beyond they were really reliable cars.
If the tick goes away when warmed up don't even worry about it. Just oil taking awhile to flow around.

No problem at all. Got my G8 parked for the winter. Picked up a 3.27 Camaro SS rear diff to put in. All new bmr bushings and some other goodies.

Hey, what was the issue with shifting? I have the same shifting issue he has in the video. On a cold start, it jerks really hard from park to drive.
My transmission was GONE. Fried on the inside. But it was always bad, not temperature based
I bet the new tick is an exhaust manifold leak.

blazing high performance is working on my ctsv as we speak. 😊
Stop ticking after warming up, oil
