Great video! I bought my G8 GT new with 27 miles in 2009. As of March 2022 I still have it and love the vehicle. In 2019 I highly modified the car at 75,000 miles. I had the DoD Active Fuel Management removed. At that time I added a cam, a Magnuson supercharger, long tube headers, 3 inch cat back exhaust with X-pipe, Injector Dynamics 1050 fuel injectors, dual fuel pumps, teflon fuel lines, E85 fuel system, Rotofab cold air intake, Mighty Mouse oil catch can. I redid the suspension with Pedders and BMR suspension components and sway bars, cradle bushings and trailing arm bushings. Running E98 with 2% methanol the car was dyno tuned to 715 hp and 625 ft. lb. torque. The redline is now at 6,500 RPM. My biggest limitation is the Michelin Pilot tires. While they are great for daily driving or hard acceleration from 40 mph, a full throttle punch from a stand still will just send you up in smoke. At the drag strip use good sticky slicks, like Mickey Thompson's. The G8 is a great high performance machine and I hope you enjoy yours. Thank you for posting the video!
I just got my 09 G8 GT a little less than a month ago and I love it so much. Got it for a great low price on marketplace with 193,500 miles on it. Its in great condition inside (no rips in the leather) and out in the dark red color. The only thing that was done to it when i bought it was the same cold air intake as in this video and rear muffler delete. Besides that its stock and still has the DOD working on it. The motor doesnt have any ticks or noises coming from it, the A/C sounds like it might need some work soon but that will be a summertime fix. This car was a northern car until I got it and it has no rust besides very minor surface rusting underneath. The high mileage doesnt bother me since i plan on refreshing the motor and camming it, as well as suspension and steering upgrades in my driveway this summer. My goal is about 450 hp by the end of the summer. This is my first v8 muscle car and im excited to get to working on on it and learning about doing motor work
Hey bud sorry to hear your having so many issues with the car. The DOD thing is major and I'm upset with GM for not doing something about that from the beginning. I was lucky to find a GXP six speed manual in great condition and kept it pretty much stock. The LS motor is a beast so once you get her straight she will show you the love. Keep pushing man there is light at the end of the tunnel...
Nice car. My dad just picked up a 2009 G8 GT with appx 120,000km on it. Its in great shape for its age. Looking forward to seeing it this weekend and working on it a little bit to prep it for driving next summer. The more I read about the G8, the more I am interested in them. They are cool and pretty cheap vs a BMW or Caddy or Merc sport sedan.
That rumble was my ac fan had a busted blade so check that but yeah i just put a gm performance 6l80e with the 3k converter because my trans failed right after that but i put a yank 3400 and a btr 3 na cam so i also have bc coil overs and they ride good and can adjust and im on 20s go coilovers. The driveshaft has a slip yoke like a 4l80 instead of the 3 bolt deal so i have a driveshaft shop aluminum 3 inch for g8 gt with 6l80e. I had a new 1 made for the new trans my scoop on the passenger side just broke. Mine has 136k on it n my trans failed at 132
I almost had mine 2 years. I had the stupid oil pressure switch issue. Replaced it twice and the code just kept coming back on after I reset it. Then I got an oil change and didn't reset it and it hasn't come back on sense. Of and your driver side door leather issue I was able to tuck that back in with a credit card (I think) between a few stoplights. Yours is much prettier than mine though. We had a pretty bad hail storm back in April. Insurance gave me 2K for a fix. So I paid for a carbon fiber hood. They said 6weeks. That was in June. So my hood looks all janky :(
I have a turbo 2017 Chevrolet SS. The works like forged motor and fore triple 450 pumps. 3 pages worth of crap. Around 1500hp. Just purchased a 2011 Caprice 9C3. That will be my PD blower car. When I got it the fan was making that same sound when it spun hard with ac on. It was embarrassing that'd how loud it was. So that night I looked the blade over be just moving it and making sure there is no play. And there wasn't. Solid as a rock. Then I waited for the mext day and I used the car for the whole day. Then when I got home the sun was out so I decided ti take the intake off and check again. So I knew the sound came from the driver side fan. So I started spinning by hand and saw one of the blades ends was wore down like 2 inches. I was like wth. So I was like OK so it's tapping that part on the shroud that's the tapping noise. So what Is making is so un balanced? 🤔 So I did more looking and what do you know! You know one of those medal clips they put on fender liners so you can run a bolt through? The blade opposite of the blade that was worn down there was one of those clips clipped onto the blade. Mind you I just bought this car 3 days before. So I took a flat head and popped it off. And what do you know it's gone! It use to be so loud to the point that with the hood down and that fan tapping with me 100 yards away I could still hear it. Now! With the hood down and me standing in front of the car I can't hear it anymore. Only time I hear it is when I have my ear right next to the fan with the hood up. I'm guessing the part of the blade that was wore down is cause the fan to still be just a tad bit uneven still. But other then that it's completely gone. I contacted the previous owner and told him about it. And was pretty mad because he thought it was engine noise and sold the car for a steal. I knew all along it was the fan so plan was to change to a new one. But now it's fixed for free. Down the road I will replace the fan blade. But for now can't even hear it. So move your fan around tug on it make sure no play. Then just inspect the fan blades after that one by one like me. You never know.
Hey if you still have your G8 you should come out to the Holden meet up in Indianapolis! Outback in the Midwest is the group! Have 300+ cars going already! Saturday September 2nd. Know it's short notice but maybe next year we can see you out there!!
Yes I went 3rd and 4th year with my buddy when he had his. Finally able to make it out with my own this year! Hopefully we will see you out there next year!
Got my G8 back in March, the DoD on mine has been deleted but the previous owner went with LS7 lifters which are known to prematurely fail. Just last week one did indeed fail and I had to get it towed to my mechanic, I have to get all the lifters replaced now but I'm going with Johnson lifters. The whole job is gonna cost $3,200...and I still wouldn't want any other car (maybe a Chevy SS lol). Love the car and always will, thinking the Johnson lifters will last a lot longer than the LS7 lifters lol. Dope car brotha 🤙🏼
Great video. I have a Maggied G8 and a '11Caprice so hopefully my DOD will hold out til i get my LSA parts gathered up. I'm surprised you don't have a personal plate. Maybe CARNIVR or CARNVOR?
I have a g8 gt aswell and it started to shift hard, did you look into your shifting problem? And my fans do that too when the ac is on but not that loud
Nah I haven't looked to hard into it. I kinda don't want to know right now lol. It works for now and I want to manual swap it later. When I drive fast it shifts fine so I'm not stressing it at the moment
@@car-nivores I have the same issue with mine. If you drive hard it shifts fine, but drive it slow and it shifts rough. I drive GM vans for work with the same transmission and they all start shifting like that as they age.
@@car-nivores if you ever 6 speed swap it post some videos. I was thinking of doing the same with mine but wouldn't even know where to start. I think the TR6060 from the camaro bolts to the L76 but I'm not sure.

NO WONDER WHY I BOUGHT THE LEXUS ISF, WAY MORE RELIABLE DAILY DRIVER and one hell of a fun track day grocery getter. Sorry to hear bout your issues man... that shit sucks.

How long did the ls7 lifters last mileage wise compared to the Johnson lifters ?
Sounds like the fan or fans are unbalanced. Use some black tape on the ends of the blades to bring it back into balance. or buy a new fan set....
Killer G8!!!!! Such a fan of them!! May try to get a GT or GXP soon
It is definitely one slick ride!

What did the fan noise turn out to be? Bad bearing? Fan blade hitting something?

Where is the local mechanic. Anywhere near Greensboro?
He is in the country of the Raleigh area. You might want to go see blazing high performance in Durham. Its a little closer
Sounds like the bearings in the fan motors. Might have to check the fans for excessive play.
I'll have to pay more attention to it
Was your tick just for a few minutes when cold, or was it constant?
I have a video of it posted. Some days its was quiet some days it was loud. Some days it went away when warm.

Info about the guy that does 3D printed vents?
Jump on any g8 Facebook pages and ask about him. Someone will know his name
When and where is the meet ups
Once a month in the NC triangle area
when do you think you’ll paint the vette?
Carbon is never getting painted. The rear bumper is TBD.
Heard you say the mechanic is in Raleigh could you shoot me his info
I wouldn't recommend him. Try blazing high-performance in Durham

What are you talking about? The parts that broke are interchangeable with other LS motors doofus.
Just replace your fan, that's all...😁
