Proud to have served with Blake Waldrop, the owner/founder of RMA, in Iraq 2004.
Cannot say enough of how great of a guy he is and always has been. He's a proud father, combat veteran, and American.
So excited to see his company grow and the fruits of his hard labor.
Additionally, the armor is excellent and I have a set for myself and my wife. I wear my set of 1155s regularly while working out, airsofting, and running drills. After about five years, they has some minor wear and tear of the fabric, but otherwise have held up supremely well considering their almost daily use.
If/when I deploy again, I'll be purchasing the 1199s for sure!
Cheers and Semper Fi.
@Bingo Huh? We wore SAPI plates in our Interceptor Vests (Flak Jackets) the entire time. Who banned what? What do you think we used for ballistic protection?
@Bingo My friend, you're making a lot of assumptions on my stating that I will be wearing RMA plates on my next deployment to Iraq.
I'm not with the DoD any longer.
@Bingo put 2&2 together bro, likely a NGO.
@@Johnny_Cash_Flow Some people are absolutely brainless on here. God speed to you brother if/when you go anywhere.
YUT
Love my RMA level IV plates. U.S. made by a marine Corp vet. Fantastic product that I have no problem investing my life into in SHTF situations.
Yep, made in Iowa. I bought some, look well made. Can't comment on their ability to take rounds, hope I don't have to, but if I ever do have to comment about how they did, then I guess that means they worked.
Imagine how much more knowledge and facts etc. we would’ve had if Barry was still here
Agreed this channel is still great but OG's remember Barry. RIP
he is here in spirit.
I don’t find this channel to be less informative due to Barry’s absence.
@@qgc3426 it actually is in a way, Barry and Eric explored different areas of the gun world not just reviews and gripes etc. what happen to firearms facts???
Where did he go?
Ordered ar500 plates 17 weeks ago and still don't have them. Ordered RMA and got it in 3 days
As500 armor is a spalling death trap. I would cancel or return that order if I were you.
Congratulations, you played yourself for buying steel
@@alexjavi13ify I’m no expert but what’s bad about steel plates?
@@jayheredia6975 When bullets hit steel plates it creates a lot of bullet fragments which can go into your head and neck, most companies put special coatings on their plates to prevent this tho
@@colekillian9555 oh I see now. Well then ig Ima return AR500 plates then for spartan plates
Eric casually sipping coffee while shooting, just another day for him. He prefers the smell of gun powder mixed in with his coffee to start his day.
I will say am glad you started with the highest rating and worked down as opposed to working up, I always feel like once its shot its compromised and the test is therefore skewed on data. Great Video
I can also vouch for the quality of RMA, at very fair prices. Got mine well within est shipping time (pre-Covid). High recommend.
Good to hear
They shipped within 1 day of ordering and I received them within 5 days I believe.
Outstanding Plates. Back face deformation is critical and this is the best performing plate I have seen shot with that round.
The lab coat gets me everytime bro....lol so funny
Iraqvet88888888 meets Bill Nye The Science Guy
Miss seeing Barry wearing it
Was about to comment the same thing lol
I can't wait to see an armor made for women by Biden
@@yeoshenghong4802 lol I think RMA actually does have plates specifically for women
SOLD!!! Thank you for the testing. Made an iraq vet happy over here.
This just makes me even more satisfied about the set of Lvl IV's I have coming on Tuesday. Heck yeah!
RIP Barry. Thanks for the facts. You made learning fun. You will be missed but never forgotten.
Lucas Botkin would be *fuming* to see that this budget armor can work 😂☠️
RMA always seems to perform crazy well
Does he not like cheap level 4 plates?
@@Halal_Dan he runs trex arms, and likely sells much more expensive plates that do the same thing. Just an assumption off of the context.
@@mghegotagun You can see his store now, he sells affordable composite plates.
Nah. From what I know he just doesn't like steel plates due to spalling (even with build up coats) and strongly advises against any armor that isn't NIJ certified. The one plate he recommends (HESCO L210) are pretty affordable, considering they are like half the weight these RMA plates are and only 100$ more (370$ for a pair of L210 vs 135$x2=270$ for these RMA.)
Yeah, they don't stop some of the rounds that these do, but most threats now days are intermediate cartridges or pistol cartridges, and arguably mobility is going to keep you alive better than sheer armor will so weighing yourself down with heavier plates might actually be detrimental.
To me it would also depend on what kind of set up I was aiming for. For something more OVERT (obvious that i was wearing armor and a carrier) I'd be fine with running thicker, heavier level IV armor like this, where as if I wanted something more COVERT (concealable by something along the lines of a wind breaker) I'd opt for a minimalist carrier and lighter/thinner L210s.
Armor is one of those things where it is pick two out of three: price, weight, protection
If you pick low price and low weight, you probably aren't getting much protection.
If you pick low weight and good protection, it isn't going to be inexpensive.
If you pick low price and good protection, it is going to be heavy.
Awesome video! Love to see you test armor! Keep it coming!
Love these tests, thank you. I know where I'm ordering my plates from.
Your gun videos are so much more informative than anyone else on youtube
I m an iowan and all my boby armor comes from RMA, its crazy cheap and does good work an supports american jobs
Missourian here I love their armor as well!
@@cynthia1400 Same here
How long was shipping? I am thinking about buying
@@fieldmarshalbaltimore1329 short than it is now, lol.
3-4 week lead time.
Mine will be coming in late July
Thanks for this one. An eye opener.
Dude...the video AAANND that Price!! Cant beat it. Just bought a shellback rampage plate carrier and for it to come with plate would have been an extra 500 or more. These plates are 240 with your discount. Tha ks for the videos, always following. Keep up the research guys!
Slowmo of the ceramic coming out is really cool
Love my 1155 plates! RMA is the way to go if you want good working body armor.
I went with level 4 plates because there are plenty of people running .30-06 deer rifles here in the midwest.
Are you in enforcement?
@@mvslice Nope. Just a concerned citizen working to better equip average Americans.
@@imswiney56 That seems excessive for a hobbyist, but I guess if you enjoy it. I can’t imagine needing this unless you’re in an actual military unit: mobility is going to give you a better chance in a small group or alone.
@@mvslice Being active duty helps justify the upscale. I agree, mobility is the fucus of small unit tactics, but I'd just run my chest rig if I weren't worried about catching a deer round while out checking property lines if things were to get worse.
@@mvslice employment in security seems good enough a reason right? 5.56 7.62 protection?
Just got my plates in and they are a little heavy but you cant beat the price and the rating. Thanks guys for the video, dont worry, i made sure your name was all over the purchase.
The slow motion from the fence post shooting that armor was gnarly.
Yup after reviewing many different manufacturers I am going with RMA 1155's out of Hesco L210's, Guard Dog IV, LA police gear, spartan, ar 500,etc. I trust IV8888 with his analysis and review.
RMA has been consistent in maintaining their NIJ certifications. Thats important to have that track record of consistent reliability
Just ordered. Thank you gentlemen!
Ordered my plates earlier today, before I watched this. Had already heard great things. Cheap NIJ certified composite armor? Sign me up! Plus I had a few issues with my bank not letting me order, talked to one of the guys over the phone, and their customer service is fan-frickin- tastic!!!!
Thank you, guys...because of this review I finally made the jump from steel core level III armor to this...I referenced you in the order...and thank the guys at BallisticInk for me, too...much appreciated...
How much do these run?
@@williamm.7433 Around 110-135 per plate depending if it's on sale.
Impressive result !
These folks are right down the road from me on Highway 5! I'm buying their Level IV 1155's here soon.
That was a cool experiment!
Great video, keep up the good work💪💪👍👍
I had these in mind but was saving up for an engagement ring, so bought some cheap botach Battle Steel plates after seeing a few reviews on them. Now that the ring is bought I'm going to pick some of these up and use the Battle Steel as backups. Thanks for the review!
Yeaa. These are better. Botach isn't edge to edge protection like these
Lab coat because we are in the Lab today testing the armor.
Glad to see an actual armor review not a target review
So glad I chose RMA over the others. Bought a set the weekend the riots started.
eyyyyy Dr. Eric, good vid!
good job on the video!!! keep it up!!!
Awesome video guys
Great content. Keep it up.
Awesome vid!
glad yall tested them so i didnt have to shoot mine hahaha
Great job, I love your Instagram content 💪
RMA got invited to the White House a couple years ago for some type of made in America showcase.
This is the best level 4 armor plate video on the cyberweb. Everyone else starts with 3-6 rounds of shit we already know it will stop. They weaken the plate before they even get to 5.56. smh ty
That is amazing.
God bless all here.
And made in Iowa USA. I'm sold!
Yup! Gun range right inside his factory. They test their plates after every 100 made. Made in Centerville IA
Eric you boy don't let Chad do that dude
I run rma 1155s and Ar 500 in my training rigs because it’s a bit heavy and great for training rma. For my duty carrier
Love RMA. Plates in stock, fantastic customer service.
As a chemistry undergrad i strongly approve of your choice of apparel. Stay safe my friends
Sweet I got some of these about 6 months ago
50BMG: Turning cover into concealment for over a hundred years.
Awesome video
Great stuff
Did anyone else heard the secondary sound clap off the Barret after he fired? That's cool as hell.
That armor is amazing 🤩
Just bought a set tonight. Never spent 300 so comfortably
These videos = mint. nuff said.
Update 9:25 I’m definitely buying a set! I love this channel lol
Wish you would hit those plates with some 500sw, 475 linebaugh, big bore handgun stuff. I have those exact plates and love em, now I trust them even more. Great video.
They would stop all that stuff no problem.
after this video I'm definitely buying these plates
"A bad guy with a Garand or something"
just in case you end up in a blood feud with a museum.
Also Iraq Vet. Thanks for the vid, buying the armor!
Are they heavier than other cermic options on the market? Yes. Are they unbearable? Absolutely not. Can they make a big difference between life and death? You betcha. These are BY FAR the best bang for the buck for armor you can get. Mine have been awesome and I'll be ordering their multicurve version.
I just placed my order!
Im relieved to see this cause i just ordered a couple of these plates😂😂
Dude shoot one with the cannon already. I'm tired of waiting. Love the content brothers!
M193 from a 20" barrel is not 1 rating lower. That is still a level 4 threat. That isnt what you used though. You called it m193, but you used .223 55gr. M193 is a specific 5.56 loading
Love my RMA 1092 (Medium SAPI) Level III+!
Awesome!
Eric: don't stand in front of a barrett..
Sir, who will? Unless you wanna see the lights.. 😂🤣
proud to say that plate comes from right here in my home town of centerville, IA
I just saw something that might really interest You and would have made Barry's day (RIP) according to a web site called Rekieta Law reports that the 6th circuit say Bump Stocks are not machine guns . Just thought I'd share the good news , Fingers crossed . Shoot Straight Stay Safe & Stay Well .
From the beret it was necessary to aim at the undamaged areas of the ceramic plate. Because somehow it is not correct when firing from a powerful weapon, armor-piercing ammunition and even more precisely into the hole made by the previous bullet.
And it wasn’t even .50 ball it looked like he was using silver tips
50 bmg is an unbelievably powerful round. Also, definitely gonna buy these plates. I was skeptical, and the weight seems a bit of a con to me… but for the price (and being in stock) I’ll take the extra pounds
I was like come’’on guys!!! Dig for the .50 bmg bullet!!!
Eric you look like a mad scientist! 😅
I have the same plates I'm happy with them
That Seth Rogan laugh @6:50 was spot on 😂😂🤘
I've seen that plate on yt take a 50bmg ball round and stop it. The wearer would not be alive but his buddy behind him would!
🤣😂👍
Can you send me the link? I can't find it. Are you talking about .50BMG API that Edwin Sarkissian did?
@@prandomable in the process I found some like buffman that it did penetrate so IDK like I said either way the wearer will not make it regardless it also stopped 338lapua.
@@alexduke5402 3/8" thick AR500 steel will be enough to stop .50BMG FMJ rounds though. However they don't make steel body armor that thick.
@@prandomable If a steel plate stopped a .50 you would probably be decapitated by the spalling.
This has to be the least backface deformation I've seen in ceramic lvl 4s. I will be ordering.
Love the lab coat
Alright I feel pretty good about my purchase now
These are my plates lol I'm a lil nervous
At least you know if they do more than give a placebo effect! 😆
@@humanipulationnation feel better after watching lol slightly disappointing that I can't take a 50 cal AP round 😂
Plates did great. I really don’t know why people worry about AP rounds they are not very common.
@@jesseterrell9354 because people that buy armor aren’t worrying about the threats of today, they’re worried about the threats of tomorrow (the notorious boogaloo). In which case I can easily see situations when fudds with hunting rifles might be shooting 30.06 at you.
@@chrishiggins1934 I know plenty of fudds and absolutely zero have or want AP 30-06, that’s zero as in no one. The military doesn’t even use 30-06 anymore neither do the po po. It’s just my opinion but the most likely “AP” round someone might encounter is the green tip m855, now that round is everywhere even though it’s a horrible round for soft tissue and the m855a1 is so new that the military are the only ones using it.
Aaaaaannd that's my first ever pair of plates.
That’s impressive
Babe, absolutely love the lab coat. Get in embroidered with "Dr. Destruction." Spectacular.
Every episode with the lab coat ❤️🥼
He just about said watch out for sharts
“Go ahead and plug her old mat” 😂☠️😂☠️
I gotta get myself some to upgrade from my steel level III plus plates
All I use is RMA love them
Have you tested shot stop armor before I had a friend recommend them to me but I haven't heard much about them
As a subscriber/fan of the channel I pause here at 0:11 to say this video will determine if I get these plates. 🇺🇸🙏
Do they make larger level iv plates than 10x12? I'm picking up a L/XL mayflower apc and I heard the 10x12 is like a hotdog down a hallway.
Just got me sone my hubby will be so jelly
These plates are twice as thick as typical NIJ LvL 4 plates but they're also roughly a quarter of the cost of your steel-cores and poly plates. The thickness gets me. Having a 1 inch thick plate strapped to you and being mobile is harder than having a 0.5 inch plate for sure. I'd think about putting one in front and keeping a LvL 3+ in the back. Interesting that this USA company can offer these plates so cheaply with hardly any lead times. Spartan Armor systems had decent prices with decent lead times. $250 for a good carrier, 2 full size plates, 2 side plates and side plate carrier. Got that in 2 weeks after I ordered. I'll have to check out RMA a little more. Maybe I'll buy an extra rig set up for friends and family when SHTF.
Actually, most NIJ 0101.06 certified level IV plates are 0.8" or more. 1" is not uncommon. This is because for the .06 standard there is foam padding on the front of the plate to protect from drops and falls. Now the .04 standard doesn't call for a drop test so most .04 "certified" plates do not have foam on the strike face which ultimately makes them thinner. Now I firmly believe companies saying .04 certified plates are just marketing since technically there is no .04 certification now as the .06 supersedes .04.
I'm curious to see body armor vs some non-lead bullets like the controlled chaos out of 6.5 Creedmoor and other calibers.
Hay❤️ , nice sharing .
A set of 2 for $320 I'm guilty of being a fud with steel vs ceramic armor but at that price and to see these results I'm very much considering ordering a set.
I just watched the video and went straight to the sight. The code doesn't work. Says the minimum purchase has to be 135.00..the plate is 129.00.
this has been fixed
Well, I bought Level 4 plates 12 years ago for $600. So they're definitely more affordable these days.
Yes I got one ordered then they called me to verify it. Nice customer service
