    I can relate to this story so much. I was blessed to receive my great grandmothers Bible who was born in 1878. My family is from Alabama and I remember leaving home going to NYC and my grandmother told me to go make a life for myself. I did just that, and during my darkest and hardest trials I would hold my great grandmothers Bible and ask for her strength. I’m so thankful for my ancestors and their strength, courage and resilience. ❤

I can only imagine what her life was like as a young beautiful pale skinned mixed race RED HEAD woman leaving Alabama and finding her way to Savannah Georgia by 1912. It's amazing ✊🏾🥰🏆

    When psychology and psychiatry were such undeveloped fields of medicine.
    Those mental facility scenes are horrific.
    Queen’s body and psyche kept score of all her years of trauma. And when she caught fire, that was enough for all the trauma to surface. The fact that she could articulate that she was not mad and that she could ask her employee for a loan so that Abner could find his way in the world, was enough evidence that she was of sound mind.

    I am not surprised the amount of black women in the unmentally well institute. They experienced alot of trauma. It's heartbreaking. Most needed therapy. Notice how Queen poured her heart out to her husband after building up so much trauma. No one made her a home. She had no where to run to. I wonder what happened to her father's wife who got pregnant again. What happened to her child? I put my hat down to and remember all black women and men that were killed, brutally hurt, raped and traumatised during that time.

      @@5551133 it’s a TV miniseries, originally made in the 1970s - followed by another miniseries called Roots: the Next Generations. I want to say it’s 15 or 16 parts between the two

    Can we talk about how queen actually was the problem?? She always never listened when blck folk tried to warn her about how wight folks was back then and she never listened, she always jumped straight to trusting her oppressor and got burnt Everytime. It's a shame how she was treated, but a lot of the times she had a superiority complex herself and felt she was above blck ppl as well, until her wight side humbled her Everytime... This series gives me mixed emotions. I feel sad, angry, happy, and appreciative all at the same time its a shame what she had to go through, but majority of it could have been avoided had she just listened!!!

      This was the comment I was looking for! 100% agree. This is super sad, but she was navigating like she had no brain. She asked for a baby and then got mad that she was a single mom when the man who impregnated her was no good (she DIDN'T even know him) and even told her not to bring a baby into the world. I didn't care for him either and the moment she spent a night with him and forgave him I was thinking girl, PLEASE don't get pregnant again because that would be beyond stupid. (Was nobody pulling out back then? because HER mother shouldn't have gotten pregnant either.) I would have been terrified to bring a baby into that environment. That mixed lady in town tried to help her, and she would have been fine if she had listened. (She wanted to go north and open up a flower shop when that lady got her a job to work in a flower shop. How dense can you be? As bad as her life was, if she had been dark skin, it would've been way worse. God gives second chances, hence why she found her husband, so thank goodness for that, but I feel many different ways about this film. I'm not entirely blaming her, but there were so many times I was like girl, LISTEN! You are leading yourself straight into the fire. God bless.

    • @hr6188
      @hr6188 23 дня назад +5

      Imagine if all of our ancestors would have "just listened" smh.. We needed those who didn't listen.. We needed those who didn't give up their seats.. We needed those who matched when they were told to go home and lay down..
      That just listening would have us still enslaved!! Queen was extra sassy but the woman went through he!! and then some..

    • @NJ-hx2w
      @NJ-hx2w 23 дня назад +3

      @@hr6188 I'm not talking about EVERY slave or ancestor. This movie is about Queen's life. I'm mainly referring to how she became a single mom and the hardships she had to endure. A lot of what SHE went through could have been avoided. She wasn't sassy because she wanted to be. Even now I have family members going through things that could have been avoided if they had just listened. Even in 2024, there are way too many black single moms with no help going through things that could have been avoided if they had just listened or used a ounce of discernment. It's good to go against the grain sometimes but you can't walk around like a ticking time bomb. You can't walk around like you know everything and have all the answers. You have to be wise enough to know when to be sassy and when to relax and be a student of life. That's the only reason I watched this and other things like this because I want to better understand and learn from others. I also said I didn't think everything was entirely her fault. I understand a lot of things were happening to her. I just thank god that I listened to warnings and the wise women in my life because I had I not... smh.

    I can not say how many times I have watched this series. My heart breaks for all those who suffered in the past. Ingnorance was so evident. Those whom ever took part in any of these actions, I know they have answered to God. But WHY must we continue to suffer because of the actions of others? It hurts me to so much. I am a 56 yr old 'white' woman. Recently a DNA test was done. Results were of no surprise to me. Believe you me, if half these people did an Ansetry backgound they would deny the results to the grave. I am proud of my heritage Im enjoying researching my heritage. White/Black ..... who cares! I am a child of God. I am truly sorry for for all the lives lost. The trauma they endured. But sadly people in this day and time still want to punish others. Its History. We cant change what was done on the past but We can move forward and create a better FUTURE. GOD BLESS EVERYONE!💕🙏🙏💕
