I am not an American, but every time I hear about the barbaric, gruesome inhumane murder of Emmit Till I feel so heart broken. This is so so so sad. How can human be so cruel to each other. It looks like nothing has changed in America to this day.
As brutal and inhumane as Emmett's murder was, he is far from the thousands of black men, women and children who were brutally murdered and we NEVER heard about it!! White people in Money, Mississippi and the surrounding area, joked that the Tallahatchie river was "full" of black bodies!! Emmett's mother was incredibly brave to demand that his body be brought back to Chicago and his casket be open!! The majority of black people who lost loved ones to lynchings and murders quietly buried their dead and didn't talk about it. Even though Emmett's case was nationally reported on, his family said they almost never talked about it. One of Emmett's cousins who was with him in bed when he was kidnapped, said that he didn't even tell his wife for like 8 years that he was cousins with Emmett. Willie Reed, the young man who heard Emmett's screaming said he didn't tell his wife about it for several years!! That was the only way these people could deal was by not talking about it. I'm sure all of them suffered from PTSD
Emmett Till’s story and the story of James Byrd, Jr here in Texas (Jasper) will forever be etched in my brain. These two stories always bring me to tears.
Willie Reed, the young man who testified that he heard Emmett's screams, had a nervous breakdown not long after the 1955 trial! He said that he could hear Emmett crying and screaming, "help me, Lord have mercy" and "mama".Some of Emmett's injuries were a broken leg, both of his wrists were broken, one of his ears was cut off, an eye was gouged out and he had numerous skull fractures. That poor baby died an agonizing death!!

He DID NOT WHISTLE. This CHILD had a SPEECH IMPEDIMENT. I read MRS. TILLS STORY. In her writings ,she would tell Emmett when he gets nervous or anxious, SLOW, down and take your time to speak. Take a deep breath and WHISTLE, getting his words together.
You said he did not whistle then turned around and said he whistled. He did indeed whistle but not at the lady but as you said Mrs Till did say he had speech issues (stutters) and she had told him to whistle as you have said, and take a deep breath and take his time to get his words together.
Excellent video💚💚💚 Born and raised in the Mississippi Delta...I heard alot of stories on racism, segregation and lynching growing up. I grew up on a plantation farm so I know what's it like...racism is still going on, while most just turn the other cheek. Hey, I grew up in the Mississippi delta too!! I'm from Clarksdale, about 40 minutes from Money. My mother was 5 when Emmett Till was murdered and she said she remembers it because my grandparents talked about it at night when all of the kids went to bed.

They should teach this in schools, I have lived in MA for so long and I just learned about this horrible story, and I am speechless. God Bless you and I am glad nothing happened to you.
Emmett Till did not die in vain. Since this heinous crime was committed four months before Rosa Parks' act of defiance, Till's murder may be considered the first event that galvanized the Civil Rights Movement in the United States. Unfortunately, sometimes it takes a tragedy to get people to rise up and demand that things change.
Actually you’re right. I heard that when Rosa Parks heard what happened to Emmet, that motivated her to sit in the bus.. so I’m thinking it was like the last straw. If it wasn’t for this tragic event who knows if she would have been motivated to do so.
@@bluewhale2600 I wasn't aware of that. Thanks for sharing. @@summertimejay3157 I will respectfully disagree. A lot has changed. We now have civil rights laws against any kind of racial discrimination. Yes racism still exists but American society is now for the most part fully desegregated. Let's not forget that just 16 years ago, we elected our first African-American president. Yes there have been incidents where police shoot and sometimes kill young black men and those are indeed tragedies but I attended an integrated school where many of my teachers were African-Americans and other minorities and I now work at a company where minorities of all types are my supervisors and trainers so no, we are by no means perfect but not to acknowledge the progress we have made since the 1950s would be disingenuous. Emmett’s story breaks my heart into. Only a monster could hurt and kill a child much less in this manner. My heart broke for his poor mama as a mother myself. My biggest fear is someone hurting one of my children. Things haven’t gotten much better in Mississippi, especially in more rural areas where things are often covered up. I live in rural south Mississippi . Brookhaven ms. Im just now hearing about Lamar Smith for the first time at 49 😢.
My grandfather born in 1900 in a farm house in Idaho traveled to Louisiana to visit his brother in the 1930's. It was the first time he traveled outside his state, let alone his hometown. Once he got into the South he said things changed. Blacks sat at the back of the bus, whites in the front. He never heard of segregation. He had never seen a black person in his life until he got into the Southern region of the United States. When they got into Louisiana the bus picked up new passengers, and let old ones off at the one of many bus stops in towns and cities back then. An older black men got onto the bus, but there were no empty available seats. My grandpa had a seat all to himself, so he stood up and offered the black man a seat, and a white man behind him stood up, tapped him on the shoulder, and said, "We don't do that down here."
@@gigigiseleworld many here supported that behaviour and still do- Some cringe At The thought Of Segregation - Black and White people alike - it’s not just whites who do NOT want to mix - if this is the case I say SO BENIT - make it So - but NEVER, ever kill and maim another human being even if they are not white - What an absolute tragedy

Don’t worry! These horrible people may have not served justice for what they did to Emmett here on Earth. But, they got served when they stood before God. Murdering a child in the way Emmett was murdered isn’t something God overlooks. No way! The woman who lied about Emmett didn’t escape judgement either. I believe these three cretins are burning in hell and rightfully so. Emmett was tortured most likely for hours. I don’t think he was dead when they threw him into the river. It’s one of the reasoned they tied a fan to his neck. They didn’t want him to scream or be seen. That, and weighing him down would mean he wouldn’t be found. These people are not anywhere near Emmett in Heaven.

That's so good. I taught my kids this story at the ages almost the same 5 and 8, this story was why my Mother and her siblings were put on a train out of Mississippi and brought to Oklahoma, so I have always been interested to keep learning more and more about it myself.
That was a good documentary! I’ve watched a lot of documentaries over the last 30 years and all the movies. I assumed I couldn’t learn anything I already didn’t know but I definitely was wrong. I just sent this to my kids and nephews for them to watch.
I was pleased that this documentary pointed out that in the Look Magazine article the two killers didn't describe the scene and didn't mention the other people who were there in the barn. I wish they had also reported that these villains also made Till look cocky about his white conquests at the beginning of their beating of him. They probably lied through their teeth with their quotes of what Till said and that sadly remains on the record. I wish that dubious testimony had been called out in the same way they did Timothy Tyson's lie that Carolyn Bryant confessed to him in the book "The Blood of Emmett Till."
To a commenter from an English country. Coming from a European English country, it's unempathely to say we must let this go because the woman who caused Emmett Till's death is old now. This is horrible. Good documentary. I can't imagine what he went through in that barn. Just think of how many more boys like him went through that we don't know about. That evil lady is still alive.
Emmett Till was such a handsome boy. He did not deserve what happened to him. I have seen so many documentaries on him and some say he whistled and some say he didn't. It doesnt matter which one is the truth because the fact that two grown men (regardless of the situation) came and took a child in the middle of the night to torture, beat and kill this young man is just pure evil. His mother was so brave to want an opened casket. Just the thought of Carolyn Bryant just living her long good life while Emmetts family live with pain and hurt of losing their loved one.
That s*** causes mental illness because the more I think about that I have A big 11 year old girl she has a big body cute face my sweet baby And she is so friendly I teach her not to knock on any doors We live in a trailer park and her and a white girl are good friends I think to myself back in the day They would have not been able to be friends but I still teach her there are some people alive today that would try to hurt her for the color of her skin And I know in my heart If that was to ever happen I would go to prison for the rest of my life if I don't get off with insanity I would take Justice in my own hands
A long life, but a good life? Not so sure about that. Bryant's Grocery and Meat Market went out of business when locals boycotted the store. And then because she obviously lied, Carolyn received hate and was mailed death threats up to her death, to the point that her daughter staunchly defended and tried to protect her. She basically had to cower in fear for the rest of her life, and honestly I think that's a fitting punishment in and of itself for her lies: never knowing if one day she'd walk out her door and be met with a gun or knife from the black community. Also, that dollop of being diagnosed with cancer on top which led to her death. I won't deny the unfairness of it though; she at least got to live, while Emmett didn't.
My grandmother and grandfather knew these horrible men that killed Till. They would shop in their store for food. Grandma was silent about what happened to Till. Just didn't see well with her.
Tills killers did not live a good life. They both loll were divorced from their wives, they had to change their names and leave Mississippi. One of them went blind and another got cancer. Carolyn died from cancer and live in absurdity. Where ever these killers went, they could never reveal who they were.

I grew up on a plantation farm so I know what's it like...racism is still going on, while most just turn the other cheek. We need more documentaries like this...especially from the older generations who experienced and went through these types of situations.
Hey, I grew up in the Mississippi delta too!! I'm from Clarksdale, about 40 minutes from Money. My mother was 5 when Emmett Till was murdered and she said she remembers it because my grandparents talked about it at night when all of the kids went to bed.
My mom and her family lived in the delta of Mississippi. My grandfather owned and farmed his own land. I remember the stories my mom and family would tell.
After my dad passed, in 1967, my mom refused to take my brother and there back there. Wise decision on her part.

I'm so sick of full catastrophe having to be the catalyst. 😊❤
I beg to differ. Because this is still going on today and nothing has really changed.
Hope you and yours have a joyous Holiday season!

Wonderful piece of work, Justice will be served one day 🙏👏, 👍❤️. Pura Vida
the should've told their uncle what happened that very same day.... could've put them on a train to chicago right then and there.... they had 4 whole days.
She said later he didn't say anything to her she lied. She told a lie.
You cannot tell anything if you haven't did anything.
@@anniejones5806 yes he did his cousins said he did also
@@anniejones5806 in this documentary both Wheeler Parker Jr and Simeon Wright (Emmett’s cousins who were there) said that Emmett did in fact whistle.
It doesn’t matter though, it doesn’t justify in the least bit what Milam and Bryant did to him.
This is horrible. Good documentary. I can't imagine what he went through in that barn. Just think of how many more boys like him went through that we don't know about. That evil lady is still alive.
YOU' RE 1000%!!! CORRECT! IF THEY DRAIN THE RIVER! THEY WOULD FIND 1000!!!!!! OF BLACK HUMAN!! BEINGS!!
@DazeDewDrop she lived long enough to be tormented by the active story that was never let go.
@MONTIQUEDOLLARD lol no they wouldn't.

He eyes were beautiful bright hazel and whitest teeth. So true
Handsome???
I'm told they we're trying to do a movie about Carolyn Bryant
This should be in our history books
My grandmother and grandfather knew these horrible men that killed Till. They would shop in their store for food. Grandma was silent about what happened to Till. Just didn't see well with her.
Wow they couldn't shoo at another store. Grow there ow food dam shame
@@Toni-id2pv
My great grandfather shopped there too for groceries. He said he didn’t have no other choice but to shop there.
Tills killers did not live a good life. They both loll were divorced from their wives, they had to change their names and leave Mississippi. One of them went blind and another got cancer. Carolyn died from cancer and live in absurdity. Where ever these killers went, they could never reveal who they were.
This gets sadder everytime they release something else about him.
I am literally crying the whole time looking and listening to this video 😢😢😢 RIP Emmett and his lovely mum ❤

Love is light, and hate is heavy. I don't understand how these people hate someone that they don't even know. Justice will be served for Emmett on the sides . God doesn't like hatred.
I wish Mrs.Till would not have allowed her son to go to the racist region in South.
Had she not, we wouldn't have the little bit of equality we currently have ( we still don't have full equity and enfranchisement free from economic sabotage). Till was the gave the Civil Rights movement the righteous cause and momentum it needed. The country could no longer say it didn't see what our plight.

Racism goes from Canada to Mexico. Don't front that it's the worst or localized to the South. 😊❤
this story is so very sad
In loving memory of emmett till. His name remembered forevermore! Gods justice shall be done amen!❤❤❤
And remember the two Democrats who savagely murdered him.
I watched this movie and was prompted to search on it and came upon this video here. This truly came in depth to the story. I honor the strength this mother had endured but the movement that came after it is historically amazing.
The series is better
